Villain: I Must NTR All The Hidden Bosses!-Chapter 33: Demon!
[A/N: One Bonus Chapter Coming Today!]
The study felt suffocating, like the walls were closing in with every second that passed. The clock on the far wall ticked loudly, the only sound in the otherwise silent room.
James felt as though every tick was counting down to his doom.
Marcellus, the Imperial Investigator, sat in his chair like a stone statue. His cold, piercing gaze was fixed on James, his eyes filled with curiosity but also suspicion.
It was the kind of look that made your stomach twist into knots, like he could see straight through you.
James sat across from him, stiff as a board, his mind racing as he tried to keep his expression neutral.
Next to them, Caylus, his father, sighed heavily, rubbing his temples. He looked tired, like this entire situation was draining the last bit of energy he had.
For a moment, no one spoke. The tension was so thick it felt like the air had turned to lead. Then, Marcellus finally moved.
He extended his hand, and with a flick of his wrist, something extraordinary happened.
From thin air, a glowing white orb appeared, floating gently above his palm. It was no bigger than a grapefruit, but it radiated a dazzling light that illuminated the room.
The orb wasn’t just bright; it was mesmerizing. Its surface shimmered like liquid crystal, and it pulsed softly, almost like it was alive.
Rays of light danced across the walls, creating an ethereal glow that was both beautiful and intimidating.
But James didn’t see beauty. No, to him, this orb was the stuff of nightmares. It might as well have been a ticking time bomb.
His stomach dropped as he stared at it, dread pooling inside him like a cold wave.
This was it. The Soul Orb.
James had read about this device in the countless books he’d devoured since arriving in this world.
It was a tool of judgment, a relic from ancient times used to test the purity of a soul.
Not only could it be used to read through one’s memories, more importantly, it was used to detect the unnatural—like someone from another world.
He knew what that meant for him. He wasn’t just "unnatural." He was a walking bullseye for execution.
In this world, transmigrators like him weren’t treated like heroes or saviors. They were labeled demons. Dangerous. Evil.
And when found, they were hunted down and killed without mercy.
James swallowed hard, his throat dry. ’Of course, this would happen to me, he thought bitterly. Just my luck.’ He glanced at the orb again, its glow mocking him.
His father’s voice broke the silence. "James, don’t worry," Caylus said, though his tone didn’t sound very reassuring.
"The orb will only reveal what’s necessary. The Investigator has taken a life oath to never disclose what he finds in your memories. It’s for the investigation of the spirit attack, nothing more."
James bit back a sarcastic laugh. ’Oh, sure. Nothing to worry about. Just a magical orb about to dig through my entire existence.’
And yet, he couldn’t refuse. He couldn’t even stand up to protect his most basic right because he had no strength.
In this cruel world, strength spoke. It was the absolute. Without it, one could only succumb to the will of others. Even his father wasn’t spared from this.
He clenched his fists under the table, his nails digging into his palms as he tried to keep his face calm. Inside, his thoughts were a whirlwind of panic.
Marcellus’s voice pulled him back to reality. "All you need to do," the man said, his tone cold and clinical, "is place your hand on the orb. It will do the rest."
James wanted to scream. ’Why don’t you touch it yourself, you smug bastard?’ But instead, he forced a nod.
At this point, there was absolutely nothing he could do anymore. He had to take this test.
Couldn’t he refuse? Who was he kidding? He wasn’t a kid. His words were less than moot. Even his father couldn’t do much against someone of this caliber.
Slowly, he stood up, each step toward the orb feeling like he was walking to his own execution.
The orb’s glow seemed to intensify as he approached, its light casting long shadows across the room.
James’s heart pounded in his chest, loud enough that he was sure everyone could hear it. He reached out, his hand trembling slightly. His fingers hovered over the orb for a moment as he took a deep breath.
’Here goes nothing,’ he thought grimly, and then he pressed his palm against the glowing surface.
The moment his hand made contact, the room erupted into chaos.
The orb didn’t just glow brighter—it exploded.
It actually exploded!
A blinding burst of purple light shot out from the orb, flooding the room with an intense, searing radiance.
The energy was overwhelming, like a tidal wave crashing into them. The force knocked over chairs and sent papers flying through the air.
James stumbled back, shielding his face with his arms, his eyes wide with shock and fear.
Marcellus wasn’t spared from the explosion either. The backlash hit him full force, and he spat out blood, staggering under the weight of the energy.
But despite the injury, his expression wasn’t one of pain—it was one of fury. Cold, ruthless fury.
"Demon!" he roared, his voice booming through the room like thunder.
In an instant, he summoned his soul weapon. A gleaming silver spear materialized in his hand, its sharp tip glowing with an ominous light.
The weapon radiated power, and Marcellus aimed it directly at James, his eyes blazing with righteous anger.
James froze. His heart felt like it had stopped as the word "demon" echoed in his mind. This was his worst nightmare come to life. He was exposed.
’I’m dead.’
