Vampire's Veil Of Obsession-Chapter 137: The Record..
Chapter 137: The Record..
Hours had passed, and Lilia and Mira were nearly done with their self-care routine. The last thing left was their pedicure, which was already halfway done and set to finish in just a few minutes. A smile lingered on Lilia’s lips as Mira spoke.
"It seems I’ll be heading straight to pick up little Tommy," she said.
Lilia turned to her with a warm smile. "I’ll join you."
Mira returned the gesture, her voice gentle. "Of course."
Minutes passed after everything was settled and the dues were finally paid. Now, as they headed back to the car, they stepped into the elevator. As it began to move, Mira smiled softly and said, "I can’t wait to see the look on Tommy’s face when he sees Miss Beauty."
Lilia chuckled, surprised. "So... he still calls me that? Really?"
Mira nodded, her eyes twinkling. "Yes, he does."
Lilia laughed softly just as the elevator pinged. They stepped out and made their way to the car. Once seated, the vehicle pulled out smoothly onto the road.
"Just to be sure," Lilia asked, glancing over at Mira, "we’re heading to Tommy’s school, right?"
Mira nodded. "Yes, we are. I’ve already texted my chauffeur. He’ll be there when we arrive. Once Tommy sees you, we’ll head straight home, and you can go back to the mansion. It works best for everyone, right?"
Lilia smiled. "Of course. That’s a great plan."
It seemed this lady was also great at thinking ahead.
The car soon fell into a comfortable silence. Lilia leaned back and stared out the window, taking in the blur of towering skyscrapers, buildings, and the vibrant city moving past them. After a while, the car came to a stop in front of a school building. Children were running into the arms of waiting parents—mothers and fathers exchanging hugs and kisses with their kids. It was a blissful, heartwarming sight. Lilia couldn’t help but imagine herself and Zethan doing the same someday. The thought alone brought a gentle warmth to her chest.
"I’ll be right back," Mira said as she opened the door.
Lilia nodded, staying behind in the quiet car. She picked up her phone, debating whether to play the recording she hadn’t yet listened to. She’d held off—especially with Mira around—unsure of its contents. It felt like something she should listen to in private, so she left it for now.
Suddenly, the door flung open and a cheerful little voice rang out, "Miss Beauty!"
Before she could react, a small blur launched into her lap. Little Tommy threw his arms around her in a tight hug, his uniform slightly crumpled from the school day. Lilia smiled, her heart softening at the sound of his voice and the warmth of his hug.
Mira climbed in after him and shut the door. Tommy turned to her with wide eyes. "So she really came!"
Mira nodded with a grin. Tommy then crossed his small arms with a playful glare and said, "Mummy, you put fruits and veggies in my bag!"
Mira tried to hold in her laughter, shaking her head. "Oh really? I had no idea! Must’ve been a mistake."
Lilia laughed softly at their exchange.
Then Tommy turned back to Lilia, his voice dropping to a quiet tone as he spoke gently, "Miss Beauty... what about Mr. Big Fella?"
His voice was full of innocent curiosity as he looked around the car, expecting to see Zethan. When he didn’t, his smile didn’t fade—instead, he tilted his head while Lilia replied, "Mr. Big Fella went on a business trip, but he’ll be back soon. And when he comes back, I’ll convince him so we can both visit you. Is that okay with you?"
She smiled warmly at the boy who nodded.
But Mira’s eyes widened slightly, her expression betraying a flicker of surprise. She turned her gaze to Lilia, processing what had just been said. Zethan? The Zethan Lyall? The name alone carried weight—mystery, power, and distance. The idea of him returning, visiting, or even being spoken of in such a casual, hopeful way by Lilia—it was almost unthinkable.
Mira blinked, stunned to the core.
"Oh really?"
The boy’s eyes widened with excitement as a smile lit up Lilia’s face. She nodded gently. "Yes, really," she said, a soft giggle escaping her lips.
Mira, glancing at her phone, broke the moment with a quiet voice. "It looks like the chauffeur is here."
She turned to Tommy. "Okay, little one, let’s go."
Tommy pouted, his lower lip sticking out just a little. "But Mommy... we didn’t even get to spend more time with Miss Lilia."
Mira then spoke. "Remember, Mrs Lilia is a very busy lady." Her tone was gentle but firm.
Tommy looked down, then nodded reluctantly.
"In fact," Mira added, "we went out today, so let’s let Mrs Lilia rest. She’s had a long, busy day."
Tommy sighed, but this time with understanding. "Okay, fine..." He turned to Lilia with a small smile. "Bye, Miss Beauty. Hope to see you next time."
Lilia’s heart softened as she smiled warmly. "You will, sweetheart."
Tommy leaned in and hugged her tightly once more before stepping out of the car.
Mira then spoke. "We would love to meet you again next time."
"Me too," Lilia murmured.
As Mira waved goodbye and gently shut the car door behind her, a soft smile played on Lilia’s lips. She had so much fun, and now seeing little Tommy made it even better.
The car began to move again, pulling away from the school.
"Lunch has already been prepared," Evie mentioned from the front. "It’ll be ready once we arrive," she added professionally.
Lilia nodded. She wasn’t starving, but she was feeling a little hungry, and the thought of a warm meal sounded comforting.
As the car glided smoothly along the road, Lilia glanced down at her phone. The recording. Now might be a good time to finally listen. After all... what could go wrong?
"Evie," Lilia asked, "do we have any earplugs in the car?"
Evie nodded and reached over to the glove compartment. Inside were various types of earbuds. She selected a pair and handed them back to Lilia, who took them with mild surprise. She hadn’t expected the car to be stocked so thoughtfully.
Unwrapping the pack, she plugged them into her phone and placed the buds in her ears. Then, with a hesitant breath, she pressed play.
The voice that poured through was unmistakable—her mother’s, her sister’s, and her father’s brother’s. The more she listened, the more her chest tightened, as if someone was hammering a knife straight into her heart. It wasn’t just sharp but slow, an intense pain—like glass gradually sinking into skin.
Lilia sat frozen, holding herself together. She had to. She couldn’t afford to break down. Not now.
The shock was just too unbearable.
Who had sent this recording? She had no idea. But there was no doubt in her mind—it was real. Their voices were clear, the words undeniable.
Money. Greed. Betrayal. Things even monsters would hesitate to do... they had done them.
Disgust clawed up her throat. Hatred, sharp and uncontrollable, burned in her chest. She hit pause. freewebnσvel.cѳm
She couldn’t take it anymore.
Turning to the window, she tried to steady her breathing, searching the passing scenery for anything that could help calm her. Her heart was spinning. Her mind, overwhelmed.
How had it come to this? Who would do something like that for money?
Everything felt too heavy, too fast, too painful.
Her lips trembled slightly, yet she remained unmoving—her face just blank.
And then, the car finally rolled to a slow stop in front of the mansion.
Lilia bit her lower lip, fighting to hold back the flood of emotions threatening to spill over. The pain in her chest wasn’t just from loss—it was from betrayal. If her father had died in an accident, something no one could control, maybe... just maybe, it wouldn’t have hurt this badly. But this? Knowing her own mother had been involved—her sister too—and even her father’s own blood brother... it felt like knives in her back.
It was betrayal in its rawest form—by the very people meant to protect and love him. And that, more than anything, was what stung the most.
Even your own blood could not be trusted.
The car door opened slowly.
Evie’s concerned gaze met hers, but before she could speak, Lilia nodded and forced a small smile. "I’m fine, Evie," she said softly, stepping out of the car.
But then, her eyes caught sight of a vehicle parked just outside the mansion—one that wasn’t there when they left. Her breath caught. She knew that car too well...
That wasn’t just any car.
Turning to Evie quickly, she asked, "Is my husband back?"
Evie nodded with a gentle smile. "Yes, Miss Lilia. Mr. Zethan is back."
Lilia’s eyes widened slightly, her chest loosening as a wave of warmth replaced the ache. Just hearing that he was home... it made her feel less alone. The tightness in her chest began to ease—Zethan was back, and she needed him now more than ever.
She was not going to let them go scot-free. Her mother, her sister, her father’s brother—none of them.
She didn’t waste another second. With hurried steps, she began to walk toward the entrance of the mansion. She needed to see him, to feel his arms around her, to pour everything out and let herself break where it felt safe—into him.
Zethan was back. And she was finally going to breathe again.
