Urban Super Soldier King-Chapter 879: The Firm Conviction to Stay
Chapter 879: Chapter 879: The Firm Conviction to Stay
"You’re threatening me?" Xiang Yu said calmly.
"You could say that. After all, I’m better than you." Ren Baohe replied with a smug laugh.
In his view, Xiang Yu was a worthy opponent. Initially, he had planned to bring Xiang Yu into his camp, but since Xiang Yu refused to comply, he decided he would torment him to death.
He wanted to torture Xiang Yu little by little, making him experience the pain of losing loved ones and friends.
"You are indeed quite impressive. How about we settle this differently? Let’s pick a place to meet—for just the two of us—and have a fair duel. What do you say?" Xiang Yu said.
After all, this concerned the lives of thousands, and Xiang Yu wouldn’t easily joke about such matters.
If there truly was a bomb he couldn’t defuse, the consequences would be severe.
"I’m the one setting the rules in this game. It’s up to me how we play it. At noon, the day after tomorrow, five bombs will explode on time. Good luck." Ren Baohe said mockingly before hanging up the phone.
Alone in a pitch-black room, wearing a baseball cap, he chuckled to himself in delight.
To him, everything was merely a game. He relished the feeling of doing as he pleased while everyone else remained helpless against him.
While he was sitting there, tinkering with his bombs, his phone suddenly rang.
"Ren Baohe, why aren’t there those ’explosive’ news stories you promised on TV?" The voice on the other end was sarcastic and mocking.
Ren Baohe snorted coldly into the phone. "Those incompetent fools didn’t place the bombs where I instructed them, and the opponents discovered them."
Ren Baohe didn’t mention Xiang Yu. If he couldn’t deal with just Xiang Yu, word would spread, and he’d lose all his standing in the organization.
"Excuses, excuses. Turn on your TV now and take a look at the news channel." The voice said smugly.
Ren Baohe picked up the remote and turned on the TV. The news was broadcasting a tragedy—a plane at the airport that had just attempted to take off had suddenly exploded, killing everyone on board.
"Is this... you..." Ren Baohe stammered as he saw the broadcast, feeling a pang of guilt. He hadn’t achieved anything noteworthy, yet others had created such a major scene. It made him feel like he was falling behind.
"Wait for it. I’ll definitely surpass you," Ren Baohe replied before abruptly hanging up.
Seeing his comrades wreak havoc abroad made him feel compelled to respond in kind.
Setting the phone aside, he began fiddling with the bombs.
Nearby, Xiao Xuan noticed the troubled look on Xiang Yu’s face. She poured him another cup of water, saying, "Brother, don’t strain yourself too much."
The three rested for a while before Xiang Yu called them to head to Wolong Villa. Only there did Xiang Yu feel a sense of peace.
When the three arrived at the villa, they spotted Zhang Dongxu arm in arm with a nurse, leisurely strolling about.
The three quickly ducked behind a large rock.
"Your injuries are almost fully healed. I should head back now," the nurse said in a soft voice.
"My injuries are still serious. How could you say that?" Zhang Dongxu clutched his chest, feigning agony.
"What’s wrong?" The nurse asked, her face filled with worry.
"My heart hurts. It starts aching every time you talk about leaving," Zhang Dongxu said dramatically.
The nurse saw through his act and playfully slapped him. "You’re impossible, pretending like all men do!"
Turning around, she walked away with faux annoyance. Zhang Dongxu quickly seized the opportunity to hug her from behind.
Neither spoke as they stood there quietly embracing. Zhang Dongxu’s hands, however, began to roam mischievously.
Just as his hand was about to wander too far, he felt a sharp pain at the back of his head. Angry, he spun around and shouted, "Who hit me?! You’re asking for trouble!"
The nurse’s face instantly turned red, resembling a monkey’s backside. She hurriedly fled the scene.
Zhang Dongxu, still seething, marched toward the large rock.
Behind the rock, the three of them were stifling laughter. When Zhang Dongxu found them, they burst out in guffaws.
"Brother Yu! It’s you guys." Zhang Dongxu said awkwardly.
"Your days seem to be going well, huh? Even have a nurse to keep you company." Xiang Yu smirked.
"My injuries aren’t healed yet; my leg’s still hurting." Zhang Dongxu said quickly, clutching one leg in an attempt to change the subject.
"Get lost! It’s your left leg that was injured—why are you holding your right leg?" Xiang Yu mocked, punching him lightly.
Tie Zhuzi and Xiao Xuan: "..."
The four wandered the villa, talking casually here and there. After returning from City Six, Xiang Yu had originally planned to leave this city and retreat to a place where no one knew him.
But a string of events had pushed him forward again. The old man had been killed in a bombing. If Xiang Yu didn’t find the culprit, more innocent lives would be lost.
"Brother Yu, thank you," Zhang Dongxu said sincerely, looking directly at Xiang Yu.
"Don’t look at me so lovingly. Go focus on your nurse," Xiang Yu chuckled softly.
"Ugh, some people really have it good. A nurse doting on them, tending to them whenever needed. Ugh, my heart hurts. I’m just jealous," Tie Zhuzi joked, clutching his chest with exaggerated theatrics.
Zhang Dongxu glanced at Xiang Yu and Tie Zhuzi’s antics before turning to Xiao Xuan, hoping for a normal conversation. Xiao Xuan, however, coughed and strode forward.
"You three are so hopeless. I just wanted to thank you all!" Zhang Dongxu said, looking betrayed.
Wu Jing and Wang Ze, hearing that Xiang Yu was at Wolong Villa, had arrived too. Seeing so many loyal brothers gathered, Xiang Yu felt deeply moved. He silently vowed to protect them all.
No matter who Ren Baohe was, daring to involve Xiang Yu’s closest companions meant that Xiang Yu would stop at nothing to eliminate him.
Later that night, Zhang Dongxu approached Xiang Yu privately while he was standing upstairs, admiring the moonlight.
"Why are you here?" Xiang Yu asked flatly.
"Just wanted to keep you company," Zhang Dongxu replied, sounding contemplative.
"Don’t. You should hurry back before your nurse is left alone in an empty room," Xiang Yu teased.
Zhang Dongxu chuckled lightly before saying, "Brother Yu, my body is mostly healed now. I want to leave this place."
"No." Xiang Yu rejected firmly. "Wolf Eye’s men are still out there, and we don’t know what they’re planning. You can’t leave."
"The lack of movement is the most dangerous thing. I want to go outside and lay low for a while." Zhang Dongxu said earnestly.
"Stay put. You’re not going anywhere." Xiang Yu said resolutely before turning and looking directly into Zhang Dongxu’s eyes. "Once your injuries are fully healed, we’ll go and settle the score with them."
Zhang Dongxu felt deeply touched. Meeting Xiang Yu had been the best decision of his life, though he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d been a burden.
During the last incident, Xiang Yu had nearly died, and Zhang Dongxu blamed himself for it. Though no one voiced it, he was convinced he’d been the cause of all the misfortune.
Now that his wounds were healing, he felt it was time to leave...
