Unlimited Resources: Raising a Minister with a Space Supermarket-Chapter 531 - 467: Confiscation of Property (Part 2)
Now that the population of Yangcheng is low and fertile lands are left uncultivated, she plans to find a place to farm herself, believing that she can still live well.
Mrs. Ma led her younger son away.
Su Jingchen and Li Wenyuan are discussing the matter of using cement to build roads. They decide to first pave the roads within and around Yangcheng, and when spring arrives next year, they will extend roads to the north reaching Linzhou and south to Bohai City.
Yu Xiaolian knocked on the door and entered, placing three silver notes on Su Jingchen’s desk.
"Income from the Red Sausage Factory this month!"
The county government is no longer short of money, having confiscated wealth from bandits and raided the homes of several nearby village chiefs. Of course, Su Jingchen, a mere County Magistrate, didn’t have the authority to conduct these raids; they were carried out by Jun Mobai’s men.
Jun Mobai didn’t raid for free; he took two-thirds of the money.
"Is the Red Sausage Factory making money?" Li Wenyuan was very excited.
The Red Sausage Factory is excellent, actually generating income, unlike the cement factory he manages, which only outputs without receiving anything.
"Yes, three hundred taels!" In the first half of the month, no shipments went out because the sausages needed curing and smoking; this three hundred taels is actually half a month’s income.
"Next month’s sausages are all pre-ordered, and the income for next month should be even more substantial!" Yu Xiaolian said.
"Thank you for your hard work!" Su Jingchen knew Yu Xiaolian had a knack for business, so he felt assured letting her manage the Red Sausage Factory. With it, they could cover some of the losses from the cement factory.
The cement factory currently employs nearly two thousand people, and the daily expenses alone cost over a hundred taels. Of course, if he were willing to sell cement, the factory would make money too. But since the roads around Yangcheng haven’t been constructed yet, the cement is kept for local use until their main roads are nearly completed, at which point they will start selling to other counties.
Actually, when Su Jingchen handed over the cement formula, he was reluctant to give it to Jun Mobai, but circumstances were unfavorable—Jun Mobai is the local tyrant of Linzhou; he had to offer it willingly or otherwise.
Cement can build the most solid defensive structures; what city defense wouldn’t need it?
Once the cement is sold externally, it will bring in very substantial revenue.
"How is Cao Gen doing?" Yu Xiaolian, unable to visit Cao Gen easily, could only inquire through Su Jingchen.
"His wounds have started to form new flesh, and they itch quite a bit."
Yu Xiaolian nodded, "You all continue with your work, I’ll be leaving!"
Yu Xiaolian returned to her room, entered her space, and found Mupirocin Cream. This ointment has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, effectively alleviating wound itching.
Yu Xiaolian squeezed the cream into a white porcelain box and handed it to the maid Xiangcao, who has been taking care of Cao Gen lately.
"Tell Cao Gen this is an anti-itch cream. When his wounds itch, he shouldn’t scratch; just apply this ointment. Also, his diet should be mild, avoiding spicy, cold, and other irritating foods.
Let him get up and stroll around the yard for some light exercise, which will also help boost his immunity and accelerate his recovery."
Xiangcao took the cream, acknowledged, and then turned to leave.
Feeling bored, Yu Xiaolian decided to visit Su Jinghua. Since she started handling affairs related to the Red Sausage Factory, she could no longer teach Su Jinghua reading and writing personally, so Su Jingchen found a female teacher for her.
Considering the time, it seemed likely that the teacher had left by now, so Yu Xiaolian took out two bags of cherries and two nectarines from the supermarket space and, carrying the fruit, proceeded to Su Jinghua’s yard.
Since she and Su Jingchen had strongly expressed their opinions last time, Su Jingchen’s attitude towards Su Jinghua has improved considerably. They now have meals together daily, and Su Jingchen even takes the opportunity to assess Su Jinghua’s coursework.
Su Jinghua is very fond of her sister-in-law, Yu Xiaolian. Seeing her arrive, she immediately dropped her brush and ran over to embrace Yu Xiaolian.
"Sister-in-law, did you bring me fruit again?" Su Jinghua glanced at the fruit platter in Yu Xiaolian’s hands, her eyes sparkling instantly. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Her sister-in-law’s fruit was exceptionally tasty, seemingly unavailable outside. Once she asked about it, her sister-in-law mentioned it was brought from afar by her elder brother. At that moment, she thought though her elder brother has access to good things, he doesn’t share with her and keeps them for himself. But her sister-in-law is kind and willing to share.
Yu Xiaolian closed the door behind her, meeting Su Jinghua’s gaze, "Let’s eat some fruit!"
Su Jinghua could frequently eat peaches, but she hadn’t even seen cherries before; she had only eaten them at her sister-in-law’s place.
Su Jinghua solely picked cherries, which were bright red and large. When bitten, they burst with rich juice, making Su Jinghua feel very satisfied.
"Sister-in-law, has my second brother sent a letter? Does he know that we don’t live at the old place anymore?" Su Jinghua had wanted to inquire about Su Jingyue’s situation for a long time but, due to her elder brother’s cold and aloof demeanor, hadn’t dared to ask.
"Yes, your second brother is now in Jie City, and everything is going well."
Yu Xiaolian placed a cherry in her mouth too; they had been kept cool in the space’s storage, providing a refreshing sensation.
Su Jingyue is lively and outgoing, unlike Su Jingchen’s indifference towards Su Jinghua. Therefore, Su Jinghua cared deeply about Su Jingyue’s well-being.
"So, when will my second brother come back?" Su Jinghua asked.
Yu Xiaolian paused, "That’s difficult to say!"
She was unsure when Su Jingyue would return; it depended on his own choices. If he only intended to join the army for personal growth, he might come back in one or two years. But if Su Jingyue had greater ambitions, he might stay in the army longer to further his career.
"Why, do you miss your second brother?" Yu Xiaolian asked.
Su Jinghua nodded, cautiously saying, "Sister-in-law, may I write a letter to my second brother?"
