Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 272: Maybe He Lied to You
Seeing her in the office with such an authoritative demeanor, I can’t help but smile.
"I say, BOSS, you’re a pregnant woman after all. Could you not be so hot-tempered? Be careful not to affect the baby’s development."
Seraphina Sinclair feels truly helpless: "I don’t know what’s happening, but recently I’ve been unable to suppress my temper. Plus, I’ve been away for a year or two, and these people have started slacking off. Do I have no choice but to rejuvenate the company’s morale?"
"Indeed, the company’s morale is important. But relatively speaking, everyone has been doing exceptionally well, managing the company excellently even in your absence, which itself is a talent." Irene Rowe smiles gently, "Besides, these are all the talents you carefully selected. Even if they’re not perfect, they wouldn’t be too subpar."
"You’re absolutely right." Seraphina’s red lips curl up slightly.
Whether it’s Kevin or Diamond Island, the people at the company have been meticulously chosen as the cream of the crop. But after all, no one is perfect; anyone can make mistakes, and those minor errors are actually negligible.
For Seraphina Sinclair, someone who is already outstanding in ability should not make such elementary mistakes.
That’s why she often can’t help but lose her temper.
Irene Rowe fully understands her during her pregnancy; emotional instability is normal.
Her only concern is for Seraphina’s health; losing her temper is fine, but not to the point of harming herself.
Speaking of the pregnancy, Irene shares the same thought as Rosalie Quinn: "Do you truly want to keep this child? What did President Fairchild say?"
"This is my child; what does it have to do with him?" Seraphina stands firm in her belief—the fate of this child has nothing to do with Desmond Fairchild; she no longer wants to have any ties with him.
"I’m not trying to stop you. I just feel President Fairchild is not as straightforward as we think. The past events are full of suspicious points; it doesn’t seem that simple." Irene moves closer to Seraphina, pulls out her phone, and plays a video, "BOSS, look, this is a video I accidentally obtained recently."
Seraphina opens the video in confusion. The video is of the scandalous affair that once stirred up all Bayside City. It captures Desmond Fairchild and Natalie Summers, walking arm in arm into a hotel.
It seemed like the video would end there, but unexpectedly, there was more.
Shortly after entering the hotel, Desmond and Natalie abruptly let go of each other’s hands as if agreed upon, and Natalie even bows to Desmond with a ninety-degree bow. What does that represent?
Would normal lovers or people with an ambiguous relationship do such things?
Isn’t this an action meant for elders and juniors or a superior and subordinate?
Irene explains as she watches, "BOSS, isn’t it strange? If they have such a relationship, why does Natalie behave this way towards President Fairchild?"
"Indeed, it’s strange." Seraphina’s heart races, and a bold thought flashes through her mind: "Could it be that the whole affair between them is fake?"
"From the video, Natalie’s respectful attitude towards President Fairchild clearly signifies a subordinate’s attitude towards a superior. If your guess is right, their relationship might have been deliberately faked to deceive you." Irene puts away her phone, speaking solemnly, "I find it strange how quickly President Fairchild’s attitude towards you changed."
"Really?" Su Wan Xin is caught in her own confusion, never considering this angle. Whenever she thinks about Desmond’s affair, she can’t think straight.
Irene nods: "Exactly. Think about how President Fairchild previously loved you compared to others; you could easily see how much he cherished you. A man who adored you to the core wouldn’t so easily change his personality overnight to fall in love with someone else unless his soul was swapped. Obviously, that’s impossible, so the only explanation is that he’s been pretending all along."
Seraphina can’t understand: "But why would he do that, faking not loving me and breaking up with me, for what reason? Could it be like a cliché drama to protect me? That’s too far-fetched."
Seraphina has hit the truth, Desmond left her to protect her.
Irene was also puzzled and pondered a long time before answering: "Perhaps that’s really the reason?"
She thinks it’s possible, given Desmond’s dominance in Bayside City, having taken countless businesses; his enemies are likely numerous, so it’s not surprising if someone secretly opposes him.
However, this reason is clearly not enough to persuade Seraphina, and she laughs coldly, "If it really is for this reason, then I can’t forgive his actions."
"Why?" Irene assumed that with Seraphina’s soft-hearted nature, if she knew Desmond left unwillingly to protect her, she’d cry and reconcile, but the outcome was contrary.
"If he truly loved me, he shouldn’t have chosen to bear everything alone. He thinks it’s for my own good, but he never asked if I wanted such protection. Rather than being protected like this, I’d rather stand by and face everything with him." Tears glistened in Seraphina’s eyes.
She doesn’t know Desmond’s motives for deceiving her, but she never meant to be a burden. If he believes leaving is the best choice for both, she respects it.
It’s just that respect aside, she can never agree with his actions.
Irene momentarily found herself speechless, initially intending to comfort Seraphina but instead making her feel worse.
"Anyway, it’s been so long since it happened; perhaps you two can never go back." Irene understands that with such words, the likelihood of reconciliation is slim.
No matter why Desmond and Seraphina parted ways, it seems there’s no future anymore.
"Enough about me, how are things with you and Austin White?" Seraphina takes a deep breath, setting aside negative emotions, smiling as she looks at Irene.
Speaking of Austin, Irene’s beautiful face blushes with a hint of red, "We’re quite good."
"Really?" Seraphina playfully teases her, "My Austin just barely turned adult, you must hold your boundaries; don’t let things get too serious."
Irene feels slightly embarrassed by her comment but answers seriously, "Don’t worry, I know my boundaries until things are certain."
Like old friends who haven’t seen each other in ages, the two discuss emotions, avoiding work topics. Unknowingly, night falls.
Irene offers to drive Seraphina home, and after a tiring day, Seraphina gladly agrees.
Aware of Seraphina’s pregnancy, Irene drives slowly and carefully, stopping by a cake shop to buy her the strawberry cake she craved.
Since becoming pregnant, Seraphina’s appetite has grown more substantial, with cravings becoming increasingly bizarre.
