Chapter 368: Chapter 286: Three-headed Dog Demon, Beheading Fang Zhou?

Some Civilian Soldiers, exhausted or severely injured, had to retreat to the center of the formation to rest. The Skeletons summoned by Fang Zhou desperately fought to fill the resulting gaps, barely holding the line.

"Just a little more... just a little more..." the Tyrant Demon rasped.

Its cunning gaze pierced through the Long Spear Formation, where men fought with reckless abandon, and landed on the dozens of cavalrymen lined up neatly behind them. The Tyrant Demon might have looked savage and crude, but cunning was a nature ingrained in all High-level Demons. The stationary cavalry unit made it uneasy. It realized these riders could be the key to victory.

I have to get that cavalry unit to move, the Tyrant Demon thought.

So, it once again raised its fiery red Greatsword high and swung it down. With this gesture, a cacophony erupted from the distance. The Dog Demons, no longer able to suppress their bloodlust, had finally received the Tyrant Demon’s signal to attack. They instantly let out deafening roars and charged like bolts of dark-red lightning, vowing to tear the enemy before them to shreds.

These Dog Demons were comparable in size to sturdy calves. Their bodies were stark naked, their dark-red skin giving off an ominous sheen in the faint light. It resembled blood-soaked steel—seemingly soft, yet indestructible. Only those who had fought them knew that their seemingly unremarkable skin had a Defense Power nearly comparable to steel Chain Armor.

At the very front of the pack ran a truly fearsome creature—the Three-headed Dog Demon. Its body was more robust than an ordinary Dog Demon’s, like a Giant Beast woven from shadow and Fear. Three heads sat side-by-side on its shoulders, each face twisted into a ferocious expression. Its cavernous maw was filled with razor-sharp fangs capable of grinding steel. A fervent hunger for blood and slaughter burned in its blood-red eyes.

With a deep and powerful roar from the Three-headed Dog Demon, the entire pack’s dormant wildness seemed to awaken. Their speed suddenly surged, and they transformed into a black torrent that instantly smashed through the refugee area’s hastily built shacks of wood planks and tattered cloth.

Fang Zhou’s eyes narrowed. It looks like these Dog Demons are planning to ambush the cavalry waiting in formation.

The warhorses of the cavalry sensed an unprecedented threat. Their eyes widened in terror as they kicked their hooves frantically, trying to break free from their reins and escape the pursuit of the Death God. The riders had to use all their strength, gripping the reins tightly with trembling hands. They exchanged determined glances, encouraging each other as they struggled to maintain order in the ranks. A mixture of sweat, dirt, and blood trickled down their cheeks and dripped onto the cold ground, but no one paid it any mind.

Fang Zhou’s eye twitched. The Tyrant Demon’s attack had indeed struck the cavalry’s weak point. The crowded refugee shacks acted like barricades, making it difficult for the cavalry to launch a Charge. For the Dog Demons, however, they provided convenient cover.

Seeing the dark-red demonic creatures about to pounce, the Heavy Armor Knight NPC gritted his teeth and raised his left hand, preparing to order all cavalrymen to dismount and fight. These Light Cavalry were seasoned elites, incredibly effective when performing a Charge. Once dismounted, however, they were barely more effective than ordinary soldiers. After all, charging on horseback and fighting on foot were two completely different things; the combat effectiveness of the Light Cavalry would plummet.

Within the formation, Fang Zhou narrowed his eyes, prepared to consume more Spiritual Power to summon additional Skeletons and fill any gaps caused by the Dog Demons’ assault if necessary.

At that moment, the dense forest seemed to tremble from some unseen force. The trees swayed, their leaves rustling loudly. Suddenly, a dozen nearly indistinguishable shadows shot out from the woods. Like Ghosts in the night, they moved with suffocating speed, cutting through the silent air as they rapidly approached the center of the battlefield.

Fang Zhou was slightly startled, but the feedback from his Soul Realm told him that these incredibly fast shadows were not Abyssal Demons. He felt a brief moment of relief. In this Simulation Battlefield, you’re either a friend or a foe. Since they aren’t Abyssal Demons, they must be allies.

Just then, the six eyes on the three heads of the leading Three-headed Dog Demon flashed with a bloodthirsty light as it instantly sensed the approaching threat. It instinctively let out a deafening bark filled with warning and menace, attempting to intimidate whatever dared to challenge it. However, before the roar could fully erupt from its throats, an even swifter figure shot out from the cover of the refugee shacks. It moved like a silver hurricane, aiming straight for the Three-headed Dog Demon’s core.

Only then did Fang Zhou see it clearly. The shadow was an exceptionally rare Spirit Beast—a Silver-backed Giant Bear. With incredible speed and strength, it charged underneath the Three-headed Dog Demon and sank its teeth into the massive creature’s body. With a piercing wail, the two behemoths became a tangled mess, rolling on the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust in a breathtaking scene.

Although the Three-headed Dog Demon was nearly twice the size of the Silver-backed Giant Bear, it seemed to be at a disadvantage in this contest of strength and skill. In the brutal clash of silver fur and dark-red flesh, the Three-headed Dog Demon was clearly getting the worst of it.

Each of the Three-headed Dog Demon’s heads possessed a jaw strength capable of crushing iron. It could chew through armor and swords made of high-quality steel as if they were wood. Its three heads could each attack different targets, making it nearly invincible on the battlefield.

However, the Silver-backed Giant Bear’s move was brilliant. It latched its jaws tightly onto the Dog Demon’s neck—the one place its own powerful jaws couldn’t reach. This tactic rendered the Three-headed Dog Demon’s most dangerous weapon useless. It could only struggle frantically, trying to use its enormous weight and strength to shake the Silver-backed Giant Bear off.

But the Silver-backed Giant Bear was clearly not going to let this golden opportunity go. It gnashed its teeth, drinking deeply of the Three-headed Dog Demon’s scorching blood, while its hind legs kicked vigorously, its sharp claws digging deep into the Demon’s softer underbelly and inflicting grievous wounds.

Witnessing their leader at a disadvantage, the other Dog Demons let out furious roars and prepared to rush to its aid. However, their own situation was just as dire. It turned out that the Silver-backed Giant Bear had not charged from the dense forest alone. It was joined by its subordinates—the very predators of the dense forest who had been forced to flee their homes by the Demons’ fire attack. These Blue Star Spirit Beasts were numerous, and each one was exceptionally fierce. Their appearance immediately drew the attention of the other Dog Demons, causing considerable trouble for the demonic pack.

Just as Fang Zhou was feeling confused, Lu Renjia shouted to him, "Boss Fang Zhou, these must be reinforcements from the Shelter! That Silver-backed Giant Bear is an Illusionary Druid NPC!"

Fang Zhou nodded slightly, a sense of relief washing over him. So, this must be an elite NPC, just like Punishment Ranger Li Guang and that middle-aged Warrior. This confirmed his suspicions. After all, in an Abyss Difficulty battle, the Demon Battle Group’s combat power was immense, and the Shelter had no defensive fortifications. For a small squad composed of only three trial participants to hold their ground would have been a near-impossible task. Now, with the help of these elite NPC reinforcements, the ordinary participants at least had a glimmer of hope.

From between the refugee shacks on both sides, only the roars and wails of the Dog Demons could be heard. The Spirit Beasts fighting them were as silent as a group of shadows, only letting out low growls when they were wounded.

The Three-headed Dog Demon let out one last, exceptionally loud roar and finally managed to throw off the Illusionary Druid NPC in his Silver-backed Giant Bear form.
