Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Preparing for a Beast Attack

"Senior brother, then, what should we do now?" Ling asked, confused.

She could understand not telling the village, but what else could they do to prevent having their fields destroyed?

Unlike Fengyu, who focused on herding beasts, for them, who are planters, every metre is important and every corner is a spirit stone!

"The beasts will attack, but who they attack isn’t decided yet. Our own field is lightly leaning to the group in the northeast, while the boars are to the northwest.

If the ones in the east attack, then we will find a way to protect ourselves. If they don’t attack, then we won’t need to worry.

For now, what we should do is to prepare. Don’t make any traps and don’t stand outside all the time, just prepare some simple defensive measures, don’t attract any attention nor leave behind evidence of us knowing this would happen.

My guess is that the attack shouldn’t be delayed for long, maybe it’ll happen tomorrow, maybe in a few days, but I am sure that it will happen in at most a week.

When the beasts attack, they will likely attack the formation at random.

Silver Feather and Silver Shadow both have the strength to protect against the weaker beasts, so we won’t have to worry about them.

The issue will be the stronger beast, if it comes, it will likely lead the group.

It’s unlikely they split into two groups, so you and I will stay in this intersection to observe their attacks and protect together against the stronger group, whether it’s in my field or in yours.

What do you think?"

Ling looked over to Ming, who nodded.

"Let’s do it! Also, senior brother, how about we send Silver Shadow and Silver Feather to the field that’s going to be left alone, just in case a slightly stronger low-grade beast attacks the formation?"

"That’s a good idea, let’s do it like that." Fengyu nodded.

If the larger beast attacked one of their fields, then all beasts around that field will come together to attack. At that point, it would be better for the two silver-feathered ducks to focus on protecting another place.

He talked a bit more with them before entering his field.

When he entered, he saw that Silver Feather and Spring Rain already waited, seemingly having felt his aura through the formation.

"Quack! Quack quack, quack?"

"The hunt was successful and we learned many things, but there’s also danger..."

Fengyu started explaining his hunt, first telling them of how they fought and some insights into what happened. Wind Claw quacked and added details from its own perspective.

At the end, he told them what happened with the two boars and how there might be a Beast Attack.

"Silver Feather, I’ve talked with the twins and you will act together with Silver Shadow to protect the field that’s going to be left alone. Based on my guess, since I am more towards the east, it’s likely that my field will be attacked.

At that point, I hope you can go to the other field and protect it with Silver Shadow, doing your best to protect it the same way you protect my field, okay?"

Silver Feather looked at him for a long time before quacking in agreement. She knew that protecting the other field was no less important, because it ensured the twins could fight with all their power against the enemy on Fengyu’s side.

Fengyu then told Spring Rain to keep the ducks close to the shack for the next few days, and to gather them right to the shack in times of danger.

His own field was technically ten acres large – three acres faced the outside, four were in the middle, and three faced the inside. His own hut and the shack were both facing the inside.

He then looked at the three acres facing outside and started building some simple fortifications. It wasn’t much, just wooden spikes and such, basically temporary measures and unfit to protect properly, but it could at least delay the enemies slightly.

Thinking about it, he also moved some larger stones to the outside and used various means to create more such temporary measures.

This could be explained as having prepared some things casually when he had time, something many villagers already did or started doing.

If he hadn’t gone out, he would’ve started doing this too. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

...

On the other hand, the twins also explained their strategy to Silver Shadow, which took a longer time since they had to write it down in simple words for Silver Shadow to understand.

There was a small argument, but in the end, they agreed.

As an earth cultivator, Ming was good at fortifications and directly raised a wall to protect against the invading beasts.

Ling went to check up on the fields and used her spells to allow the rice fields to recover from not being taken care of properly for a month. She also used various spells to kill the insects that grew larger in this month.

In the end, they came together to their house, a small house with three rooms, looking at each other.

"Brother, senior brother Fengyu’s spells... they’re shockingly similar to the innate powers of his two ducks, aren’t they?

It seems the only ability he can’t cast is Zimu’s!

And this special cloud rain spell, it’s likely of that white-blue duck that we’ve seen a few times... he called it Spring Rain, right?"

"Sister, you’re being nosy again. Everyone has their secrets... anyways, I’ve read many times that beast tamers have unique ways to cast the spells of their beasts or even inherit Innate Powers, casting them just like beasts.

On the other hand, senior brother is casting these spells like normal spells...

His talent in spell casting might just be higher.

Sister, don’t be nosy and ask him about it!"

"What nosy? I’m just curious! But... this is good. Senior brother’s strength makes it safer for us to cultivate.

If we don’t help him and his field is breached, then the beasts will have an easier way to enter our field from his, at which time we won’t be sure we’ll be able to protect our rice fields..."
