Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 78: A Future Drawn Together
Chapter 78: Chapter 78: A Future Drawn Together
Le Tong’s cold was basically cured after two or three days.
However, whether it was her overthinking or a psychological effect, after her cold had improved and her head no longer hurt, she felt a vague dull pain under her right rib.
Le Tong is optimistic and strong, and minor illnesses like a cold or fever aren’t a big deal for her, so she worked for a few days while sick. But now, the pain is in the exact same spot where her mother’s pain used to be, leaving her somewhat fearful in her heart.
The organ under the right rib is the liver. Could it be that her mother’s illness is hereditary?
With this worry in her heart, Le Tong’s sleep quality plummeted at night, her complexion became much worse than before, and the two very noticeable dark circles made her look both haggard and weary.
On Friday afternoon, Le Tong delivered documents to Ji Rui as usual, and usually, she’d ask if Ji Rui needed any help.
But today, she put down the documents and was about to leave without a word.
Ji Rui wasn’t typically a sensitive person, and considering Le Tong was just his subordinate, albeit closer because she was his secretary. Yet, this usually insensitive President Ji noticed something different about his secretary today.
He opened the documents with one hand but his gaze was fixed on Le Tong’s face, "Are you sick?"
Le Tong paused, meeting Ji Rui’s deep yet emotionless eyes, she smiled and shook her head, "No, thank you for your concern, President."
On a normal day, if Le Tong said this, Ji Rui would probably shift his gaze and attend to his own business. But today, his gaze moved from her pale lips to those two prominent dark circles, and finally to her originally bright and clear but now dim eyes, and he couldn’t help but frown slightly.
"Is it too much work?"
After being the president for so long, it was Ji Rui’s first time reflecting on his attitude and demands on his subordinates.
Le Tong was puzzled why Ji Rui suddenly asked this, as she had always worked diligently without complaining, no matter how much work there was. Did the president hear some kind of rumors?
"President, although there’s a lot of work, I can still manage for now."
Le Tong couldn’t help but think, is Ji Rui taking this opportunity to make things difficult for her?
No wonder Le Tong would think so, as President Ji had indeed made things difficult for her several times before.
Ji Rui pointed at her face, "Don’t you look in the mirror before going out?"
Le Tong instinctively touched her face, could it be that something strange had grown on it? That’s not right, it looked fine when she got up this morning.
"President, I’m sorry! I usually go out without makeup, do I need to wear makeup?" But she clearly remembered there was no such rule in the company.
Ji Rui saw her increasingly wild guesses and his face grew darker along with them.
He waved his hand towards the attached rest area in the office, saying, "Go take a look yourself!"
Le Tong walked in with a confused face and looked at herself in the mirror a few times. Although she looked a bit haggard, it wasn’t too bad.
"President, I think I’m okay!" Le Tong stood in front of the desk, reporting to Ji Rui.
For some reason, Ji Rui suddenly remembered what Doctor Luo had said that day. After thinking for a moment, he opened a drawer and took out a business card to hand to Le Tong.
"Take some time to see him!"
Le Tong took the card; it was a business card for a doctor named Fu, who was a famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor in the R City area. For ordinary folks, seeing him was as difficult as climbing to the sky.
"Thank you, President!" Although Le Tong didn’t plan to see this doctor named Fu, she still sincerely thanked Ji Rui for his concern.
She hadn’t forgotten that she had an appointment with Uncle Zhong to see a traditional Chinese doctor tomorrow.
Ji Rui assumed she agreed and waved his hand, "You can leave work on time today."
After Le Tong left, Ji Rui picked up the phone and dialed out, "Uncle Fu, a girl named Le Tong will come to you tomorrow. Please take a look at her."
On the other end of the line came an old but hearty laugh, "Oh, Le Tong? Who is she? Your girlfriend?"
Ji Rui was taken aback and hurriedly denied it, "Of course not, she’s my secretary. Recently, she’s been working overtime and I think she’s exhausted."
Girlfriend? How could it be!!
Ji Rui felt that his concern for Le Tong’s health was entirely because he watched her faint in front of him, and the reason for her fainting was too much work and being overworked. So, in essence, the culprit for her current haggard state was actually him.
Although she had caused quite a stir a while ago, which made him quite annoyed, from a work performance perspective alone, Le Tong was indeed a rare great secretary. If she worked herself sick, it would ultimately be his own burden.
"Alright, since Ah Ru personally requested it, I’ll make sure to take good care of her."
Doctor Fu had a small clinic and had taken on two apprentices. There were so many people seeking consultations every day, so some long-time patients or complex cases were diagnosed by him personally, while others were mostly handled by his two apprentices.
The next day, Le Tong stood at the bus stop at the agreed time waiting for Uncle Zhong; a green QQ car stopped in front of her, and Uncle Zhong’s voice came through the lowered window.
"Tongtong, get in the car."
Cars behind were honking furiously, and Le Tong quickly got into the car.
"Uncle Zhong, when did you get your driver’s license?" Le Tong asked while fastening her seatbelt.
"Two months ago, don’t worry, I’m pretty good at driving."
The car smoothly merged onto the main road, and as Uncle Zhong claimed, his driving skills were indeed good.
"Tongtong, when are you going to get a driver’s license? It’s more convenient for young people to have one."
When her mother was still alive, Le Tong indeed planned to get a driver’s license so she could rent a car during her free time to take her mother out for a drive. But life was tight back then, and it wasn’t easy to spare thousands of yuan, so Le Tong thought she would get one when she started working and had more money.
Now, a few thousand yuan for a driver’s license isn’t a big deal for her, but she no longer feels the need to get one.
"We’ll see."
Her mother had often mused about wanting to see the majestic ocean, witness mountains full of maple trees, and climb towering and steep peaks. Le Tong had promised her mother that once she earned money, they would drive to see each of these sights together.
Everyone secretly envisions their future, and in the future Le Tong once envisioned, her mother had always been there.
Now that her mother was gone, her future had become vague and unclear.
"Tongtong, your complexion is worse than it was a few days ago. Is it the cold that’s not gone, or are you too tired from work?"
Uncle Zhong, seeing Le Tong looking so listless and sickly, asked with great concern.
Le Tong’s poor spirits were entirely due to the speculations caused by the pain under her ribcage, forming a terrible, invisible pressure that left her unable to eat or sleep well.
