Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 69 Goodnight!
Chapter 69: Chapter 69 Goodnight!
The last time Le Tong saw her father was probably when she was four or five years old.
So, strictly speaking, she actually doesn’t remember what her father looks like. She only vaguely remembers that her father was a cheerful, tall man whose smile made people feel warm and secure.
It was only later, as she grew up, that she slowly understood that the image of a father in every girl’s heart is often associated with words like tall, safe, and warm.
Therefore, her vague memories of her father might just be the image of an idealized father she secretly dreamed of countless times, rather than her father’s true appearance.
However, there was no way to verify these conjectures because she didn’t dare to mention her father in front of her mother.
When she was too young to understand, she would grab her mother and ask when her father would return. Her mother would always smile, pat her head and say, "Soon. When Tongtong grows up a bit more, becomes a little smarter and prettier, daddy will be back."
Le Tong tried hard to meet the expectations her mother mentioned. Although she never saw her father, she just assumed it was because she hadn’t grown up, wasn’t smart enough, or pretty enough.
Every time she asked about her father, she would vaguely hear her mother’s crying in her dreams at night. So, at some point, she stopped asking her mother any questions about her father.
The phone of Yang Sheng rang suddenly, and Le Tong took a sip of water, trying to pull her somewhat chaotic thoughts back.
"Rui, what’s the matter?"
"Ah?! It’s that urgent? Okay, I’ll head back right away!"
Yang Sheng hurriedly hung up the phone and stood up.
"Tongtong, there’s something urgent at the company. I need to go back and handle it."
Le Tong stood up with him, "Go quickly, thank you for today."
Yang Sheng held the door, glanced back at her, "Tongtong, if you keep being so polite, it feels distant! Go cook something to eat, and have a good sleep after."
"Okay! Take care, senior brother!"
After seeing Yang Sheng off, Le Tong warmed up some porridge to eat. Seeing the sun shining brightly outside, she pushed the single sofa to the balcony, curled up in it, placed a book on her lap to read, and under the enveloping warmth of the sun, she soon felt sleepy. So, she put the book aside, climbed onto bed, and fell asleep under the covers.
Maybe it was the strong sedative effect of the antipyretic medication from the doctor, or maybe because her sleep quality had been really poor, causing her body’s functions to reach their limit. With the help of the medication, she slept for nearly ten hours, and when she woke up, the room was completely dark.
In a dazed state, Le Tong remained in the dark for a while before fully waking up, until the phone rang, bringing her back to the real world.
She reached out to turn on the nightlight on the bedside table, fumbled around on the table for a while, but couldn’t find her phone.
She suddenly remembered that she had casually left the phone on the sofa.
Reluctantly, she got out of bed, wrapped herself in the blanket, and curled up on the sofa. Picking up the phone, she noticed the caller ID wasn’t who she expected, Lo Yuanyuan or Yang Sheng, but rather President Ji, who had inexplicably left in a huff that morning.
Le Tong stared at the screen, hesitating whether to answer or not.
Even though his behavior the day before was indeed infuriating, today he had done much more than what a boss should...
While she was indecisive, the ringtone abruptly stopped.
The name "Gi Rui" flashed on the screen, and in a heated moment, Le Tong impulsively pressed the redial button.
The phone rang for a long time before it was picked up, so long that Le Tong thought the other party, out of spite, had directly rejected her call.
"Hello!" The call was answered just as Le Tong was about to hang up, the man’s cold voice cutting through the silent night, sounding particularly chilling.
Le Tong pulled the blanket tighter around herself, trying her best to ignore the chilling pressure in his tone.
"President, did you need me? Sorry, I didn’t know where I threw my phone earlier, just found it."
Ji Rui remained silent, and faint sounds resembling the rustling of flipping pages came through the receiver.
His silence made Le Tong feel awkward. "President, am I disturbing you?"
"Can you come to work tomorrow?"
It seemed Ji Rui didn’t hear what Le Tong said, or maybe the reason he called was purely because of this concern.
"Oh... If I don’t have a fever tomorrow, I’ll come back to work."
Learning that he called only for business reasons, Le Tong felt slightly disappointed. Even though she knew she had no right or reason to feel disappointed, she couldn’t suppress the disappointment that welled up inside her.
"Hmm, if not, take another day or two to rest. Lin Ling will cover your work temporarily."
Holding the phone, Le Tong felt a little lost. If she understood correctly, was President Ji showing concern for her?
Although his tone remained as cold and hard as usual, for someone as rigid as him to say such words, it had to be the utmost he could muster, right?
"Thank you, President. I’ll assess my condition in the morning; if I still don’t feel well and need to ask for leave, I’ll call HR to request it."
"Hmm." The previously considerate boss instantly reverted to the usual curt version.
Holding the phone, Le Tong felt the atmosphere grow cold. She wasn’t someone who liked to find topics for small talk, and Ji Rui obviously wasn’t either.
Both remained silent, yet neither hung up. After a while, Le Tong remembered that she hadn’t properly thanked Ji Rui for his help during the day.
"President, thank you for taking me to the hospital today."
"Hmm."
Although Le Tong was used to President Ji’s casual responses following her lengthy work reports, like "hmm," "okay," or "alright," speaking a long sentence only to receive a brief acknowledgment from the other side really didn’t encourage further conversation.
Fortunately, Le Tong didn’t intend to have a long talk with Ji Rui.
"President, it’s getting late. I won’t bother you any longer. Goodnight."
"Hmm, goodnight!" This time, President Ji generously added two more words. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
After hanging up, Le Tong stayed wrapped in the blanket on the sofa for a while before getting up to cook something to eat. Once full, she took a shower, responsibly took the prescribed medicine, and climbed back into bed to sleep.
The next day, Le Tong woke up at her usual time. Before even opening her eyes, she touched her forehead.
Phew! It seems my immunity is pretty strong. One drip, one dose of medicine, and two big sleeps later, and I’m almost better.
Le Tong pulled off the covers, put on a coat, and quickly slipped into the washroom.
After washing up, she went to the kitchen, opened the fridge, took out her breakfast, and put it in the microwave to heat. By the time she had changed her clothes and returned, the breakfast was ready. She packed it into a bag, picked it up, and left the house.
