Transmigration; A Mother's Redemption and a perfect Wife.-Chapter 468; Honeymoon Phase 6
When they emerged and made their way to the dining room, they found an inviting spread waiting for them. Fresh-squeezed orange juice in a crystal pitcher, an assortment of cut fruits artfully arranged, delicate pastries from the bakery Tang Fei favored, and small sandwiches with various fillings. Nothing too heavy, just enough to tide them over until dinner.
They settled around one end of the large dining table, the informal seating arrangement reflecting their comfort with each other. Minghao claimed the chair closest to the food, naturally, while Qin Xinyu took the spot beside her. Twilight poured juice for everyone with practiced ease, the domesticity of the gesture at odds with her earlier display of high-performance driving.
"So," Nanny Yun said as she brought in an additional plate of cookies, clearly fresh from the oven and still warm, "tell me about this debate registration. When is the competition?"
"Saturday," Minghao answered around a mouthful of pastry. She swallowed quickly when Nanny Yun gave her a look. "Sorry. This Saturday. We find out our assigned position, traditional or modern education, on Friday."
"And you’re prepared for both sides?"
"Very prepared," Qin Xinyu confirmed. "We’ve been researching for a few days now. Minghao has the historical and philosophical frameworks, I have the empirical research and statistical analysis..." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"And Qing Qing has the international comparative perspectives," a new voice finished from the doorway.
They all turned to see Qing Qing standing at the entrance, looking tentative but pleased. She’d changed from whatever she’d been wearing earlier into comfortable clothes, soft pants and an oversized sweater that made her look younger than her twelve years. Her hair was loose around her shoulders, and there was a brightness to her expression that hadn’t been there when she’d first arrived at the estate.
"Qing Qing!" Minghao immediately waved her over. "Come sit! Have some snacks! Nanny Yun made fresh cookies!"
Qing Qing moved into the room with more confidence than she’d shown even days ago, taking the seat across from Minghao. Twilight automatically poured her a glass of juice, sliding it across with a warm smile.
"How was your day?" Qing Qing asked, her Mandarin pronunciation still carrying that slight foreign accent but much improved from when she’d first arrived. "School was good?"
"School was great," Minghao declared. "We told Mrs. Chen about you joining the team. She’s excited to meet you Friday."
"And we totally put Zhang Yuki in her place," Qin Xinyu added with satisfaction.
"Zhang Yuki?" Qing Qing’s brow furrowed slightly.
"Senior student. Thinks she’s the debate queen." Qin Xinyu made a dismissive gesture. "She tried to challenge Minghao, and Minghao basically destroyed her with facts."
"I didn’t destroy her," Minghao protested, though she looked pleased. "I just... demonstrated that missing a few weeks of school hadn’t affected my preparation abf knowledge."
"You quoted studies and research methodologies from memory," Qin Xinyu pointed out. "Her face was priceless."
Twilight laughed, reaching for a sandwich. "I wish I could have seen that. Minghao is really capable."
"How was your day?" Minghao asked, turning the question back to Qing Qing. "Did you work on the research more?"
"Yes, I finished the section on Scandinavian education models." Qing Qing’s face lit up with enthusiasm that transcended language barriers. "The Norwegian system is very interesting, they focus on outdoor learning and democratic participation even in primary schools. Very different from traditional Chinese or American approaches."
"That’s perfect for the comparative analysis," Qin Xinyu said, already thinking about how to integrate it into their framework.
"Oh!" Qing Qing set down her juice glass, suddenly remembering something. "The doctor came today. Dr. Lin, the plastic surgeon who did my reconstructive surgery. He checked everything and said the healing is going very well. All the swelling is almost gone, and the scars are fading nicely."
Her hand unconsciously moved to her face, touching the area near her temple where the most significant work had been done. The face that had gone through the ordeal, the trafficking, the abuse, whatever violence she’d endured before Tang Fei had saved her, had required extensive medical intervention to change her and give her a different identity. But looking at her now, the visible evidence was minimal, testament to both the surgeon’s skill and her own resilience.
"That’s wonderful," Nanny Yun said warmly. "You look beautiful, dear. Inside and out."
Qing Qing blushed at the compliment but smiled. "Dr. Lin said I can resume all normal activities now. No more restrictions. So..." she looked at Twilight hopefully, "does that mean I can be admitted to school now? Officially?"
Twilight nodded, her expression gentle. "Your enrollment is already being processed. Friday you’ll start attending classes officially. The paperwork is all handled, Master Huo authorized everything before he left for the honeymoon."
"Really?" The hope in Qing Qing’s voice was almost painful to hear. "I can really go to school? With Minghao and Xinyu?"
"Really," Minghao confirmed, reaching across the table to squeeze her hand. "You’ll be in my year level, but we’ll see each other all the time. And we’ll have debate practice together every day after school."
"I’ve been so nervous," Qing Qing admitted quietly. "About starting school, about the debate, about... everything. My Mandarin still isn’t perfect, and I don’t know if I’ll fit in...."
"You’ll fit in fine," Twilight interrupted firmly. "Your Mandarin is excellent, better than some native speakers I know. And you’re smart, hardworking, and you have us. That’s all you need."
"Twilight’s right," Qin Xinyu added. "Besides, anyone who gives you trouble will have to deal with the three of us. And trust me, that’s not a fight anyone wants."
Qing Qing laughed, a light, genuine sound that made everyone smile. It was such a contrast from the frightened, traumatized girl who’d first arrived, broken, silent, barely clinging to hope. Tang Fei and the family had given her safety, medical care, and most importantly, belonging. And slowly, day by day, she was transforming from a victim into a survivor. From a survivor into someone who could laugh and plan and look forward to tomorrow.
