Chapter 431: Chapter 431; Honeymoon phase 4 (b)

Others in the restaurant nodded vigorously, murmuring swift agreements, clearly desperate to distance themselves from the offenders.

Huo Ting Cheng studied them all for a long, measuring moment, his expression giving nothing away, then finally nodded curtly. "Fine. Those who had no part in this disgraceful incident may stay and continue their meals. Enjoy your evening. However, please understand that I have eyes and ears everywhere throughout this establishment. Any disrespect toward my wife, now or ever in the future, will have immediate and permanent consequences."

The remaining guests quickly returned to their seats with obvious relief, suddenly becoming intensely focused on their plates; their conversations were muted and respectful, with all previous boldness evaporating completely.

Huo Ting Cheng turned back to Tang Fei, and his expression underwent a complete transformation the moment his eyes found her tear-stained face.

All the cold fury melted away instantly, replaced by tender concern. He gently wiped the tears from her flushed cheeks with his thumbs, his touch feather-light. "I’m so sorry," he said quietly, his voice thick with genuine regret. "This should never have happened. This is entirely my fault, I should have made your status unmistakably known the moment we arrived."

"It’s not your fault," she whispered, still visibly shaken by the entire experience. "I just... I didn’t expect people to be so cruel..." And she couldn’t act in such places, the last thing she wanted was embarrassing Huo Ting Cheng.

He was already suspecting her after last night’s slaughter, how can she act once again? And now, she was realizing how difficult it was to live a normal life other than her assassin life.

"Come," he said gently, carefully guiding her back to their table with a protective hand at the end of her back. "Sit. Don’t listen to anyone."

The restaurant manager came rushing over, bowing so deeply he was practically folded in half. "Master Huo, Mrs. Huo, please accept our most profound and sincere apologies. This is completely unacceptable. We will....."

"Fire the entire front-of-house staff," Huo Ting Cheng interrupted coldly, not even looking at the man. "Every single one of them. Retrain from absolute scratch with people who understand that my wife is to be treated like royalty, and not only that, any guests who come here, regardless of what she’s wearing, what time she arrives, or any other circumstance whatsoever."

"Yes, sir. Immediately. Without question. And today’s meal..."

"Will be absolutely perfect," Huo Ting Cheng interrupted again, his tone leaving no room for anything less. "Or you’ll be joining the terminated staff. Do I make myself clear?"

"Perfectly clear, sir!" The manager’s voice cracked slightly with terror.

The manager practically ran from the table, and moments later a new waitress appeared, significantly older, clearly senior management level, her expression professionally warm but deeply respectful.

"Mrs. Huo," she said with a genuine smile and a respectful bow that conveyed real understanding of the situation. "It’s truly an honor to serve you this afternoon. May I bring you something to drink? Wine? Champagne? Tea? Whatever you prefer."

Tang Fei, still processing everything that had happened in the last few minutes, managed a small but genuine smile. "Jasmine tea, please. If you have it available."

"Excellent choice, and yes, we have the finest jasmine tea imported directly from Fujian province. And for you, Master Huo?"

"The same, thank you."

As the waitress departed with obvious efficiency, Tang Fei looked at Huo Ting Cheng with complex emotions swirling in her eyes. "You didn’t have to do all that. Fire all those people, ban those guests..."

"Yes," he said with absolute firmness, taking her hand across the elegant table and holding it like a lifeline. "I did have to do exactly that. You’re my wife. Anyone who disrespects you disrespects me directly. And I don’t tolerate disrespect. Not toward you. Not ever."

She was quiet for a thoughtful moment, then said softly, "I understood what they were saying. The English and French comments. I... I never told you I could speak those languages fluently."

He looked at her steadily, his dark eyes revealing nothing but acceptance. "I know. You also demonstrated impressive professional combat skills the other night, skills I didn’t know my Fei’er possesses. You have knowledge and abilities that don’t match your official background or history."

Of course, she wasn’t the original Tang Fei, and he didn’t know deeply about Tang Fei.

"Since I was five years old, I have learned several foreign languages, but I don’t use them, and I haven’t met any foreigners, so that you can hear... It’s possible that you don’t know much about me."

She didn’t have many memories of the original Tang Fei when she was younger, but she could fabricate something that would either confuse Huo Ting Cheng or convince him.

And true to her words, Huo Ting Cheng nodded his head in understanding, even though his face held a slight frown.

He actually hadn’t been with her until her teenage years, so he didn’t know much of what had happened in her early life. And with that kind of family she had, the Tang family with all its darkness and danger, it was entirely possible she’d learned all these things for defense and survival.

"It’s okay..." His voice was gentle, accepting, and he reached across the table to take her hand again. "Only one thing stays true... You will always be my Fei’er."

Yes, he didn’t care what she was or what skills she possessed, so long as it was her, then everything was well. So long as she was his wife, the mother of his children, the woman who held his heart.

"Hehe... You flatter me..." She felt shy, and at the same time heartbroken, because true to his words, she was Tang Fei, but the original Tang Fei was already dead. It was her occupying this body now, and even though they had similarities, enough that no one had noticed the difference, it still gave her heartache knowing he probably loved the original and not her.
