Transmigration; A Mother's Redemption and a perfect Wife.-Chapter 356; Conducting Auditions 3
"Honey... I think I need to do an entire body check-up! I’m probably sick!" She could have slept late last night, but it still felt a bit off that she had fallen asleep.
"Didn’t you do an entire body medical check-up just a few days ago? What kind of disease shows up like that? Your body is just fine.." He eyed her before gazing at his laptop.
"Hehe... Probably I have contracted some weird flu or parasites!" She hummed softly, thinking she could recall sending her kids off to the military and school, but what she didn’t recall was anything frightening; it’s like her mind had conditioned her to forget anything hurtful and keep only the positive memories..."
"If it’s the flu, shouldn’t your nose feel stuffy and also have running mucus? You don’t feel like you have a headache, you can’t be having any infection... And don’t forget, getting checked they would get your blood, if you are okay with getting pricked, I don’t mind booking a doctor appointment." He was certain that she wouldn’t go; he just didn’t want her getting worried about the fact that her body had issues, from the fact that she would never be able to give birth.
" Hehe... Forget it forget it.... Ahhh, I haven’t received a call from Madam and Master Xu and Xu Xie... I just recalled now, look at my mind..." She softly muttered nudging Huo Wu to get up and get Huo Ting Cheng’s mobile phone to make a phone call.
"Xu Xie brought her two brothers over to the mansion last night. We are still investigating what had happened and who was trying to assassinate me. She immediately went to the south. She had told you she had a business to deal with... For those in the Xu family, you can call them but they might ask you if you can handle the situation because of their two sons who are involved..." Huo Ting Cheng didn’t hide anything from her, and when she thought of the entire scenario she held back.
If she interfered, it wouldn’t be good. On one side, it’s the original Tang Fei’s adopted parents, and on the other side, it was her husband who was almost killed last night.
These two guys might not have managed last night, but what about next time? And Xu Xie was the one who caught and brought them over to Huo’s mansion. If they were released, that meant they would get back at their sister; they were guys capable of anything.
The live feeds from the five halls continued to play across the laptop screen, a vibrant tapestry of raw ambition and fragile dreams.
Tang Fei watched, her initial excitement now tempered by a pensive stillness. The singer in Hall 2 had begun a new piece, a haunting ballad about forgotten memories, and his voice seemed to echo a strange emptiness she felt in her own chest.
Huo Ting Cheng watched her watching them. He saw the subtle shift in her posture, the way her fingers stilled on her knee. Her earlier words about feeling unwell, though brushed aside, had left a filament of unease in the air.
He knew the cause was not a physical ailment, but the psychological scarring his methods were inflicting, the memory gaps, the conditioned avoidance of distress. To him, it was a necessary evil. To see her now, so captivated yet so detached, was the intended result, and it filled him with a grim sense of satisfaction.
The door to the pent office opened silently. Huo Qi entered, his presence as unobtrusive as a shadow. He carried a single sheet of paper. He bypassed Tang Fei on the floor and went straight to Huo Ting Cheng’s chair, handing him the document without a word.
Huo Ting Cheng’s eyes scanned the page. It was the preliminary report on the two Xu brothers. The findings were as expected: entitled, reckless, and deeply indebted, they had been easy pawns for a rival faction looking for a way to strike at the Huo family. Their sister, Xu Xie, had delivered them in knowing it was inevitable.
His gaze flickered up from the report to Tang Fei. She was still engrossed in the auditions, but a faint line of worry had appeared between her brows.
He knew her conflict was genuine. The Xu family had raised her. Letting their sons be... processed... would cause a rift, a scar on her conscience. But protecting her, and the empire he was building around her, was paramount.
"The situation is being handled," Huo Ting Cheng said, his voice cutting through the melodic strains from Hall 2. He didn’t look at her as he spoke, his attention seemingly on the report. "It’s a business matter, Fei Fei. Not a family one. You don’t need to trouble yourself with it."
Tang Fei finally tore her eyes from the screen, looking at his profile. "But they’re..."
"They are adults who made a choice," he interrupted, his tone final. He folded the report and set it aside. "Choices have consequences. Xu Xie understood that. You should as well."
The cold pragmatism in his voice sent a shiver through her. It was the same tone he used in boardrooms when discussing hostile takeovers.
She looked from his impassive face to Huo Qi’s stoic one, and the reality of the world she was married to settled heavily upon her. This wasn’t just about business deals and building entertainment empires. There was a darker, brutal machinery operating just beneath the gilded surface, and her husband was its master.
Her desire to call the Xu family immediately evaporated. What would she say? I’m sorry, but your sons tried to kill my husband, and now he’s handling it? The helplessness was suffocating.
Seeing the conflict drain the light from her eyes, Huo Ting Cheng’s expression softened for a minute. This was the other part of his plan, to make his world so complex and intimidating that she would naturally retreat from it, preferring the controlled, creative sanctuary he provided.
