Chapter 331: Chapter 331; She disappeared

A soft sound escaped her, half gasp, half surrender. Her hands clutched his shoulders as she kissed him back. The world outside disappeared, and what remained was a cocoon of the two.

There was only him, his warmth, his strength, and his steady presence.

He didn’t stop until her shaking eased, until she melted against him completely. When he finally pulled back, both were breathless. His intense eyes met hers.

"Better?" he murmured, checking her out, "mnnh?"

Tang Fei nodded, her lips swollen, her breath uneven. She rested her forehead against his broad chest, feeling calm again.

"Good," he whispered and kissed her lightly once more before holding her closely as the van continued its journey.

The rest of the ride was quiet. She stayed leaning against his chest, his warmth steady beside her, until the van passed through tree-lined roads and reached tall iron gates.

They arrived at a private academy, one of the most secure schools in the city. The gates opened automatically as the convoy entered the campus filled with gardens, sports fields, and elegant buildings. This was where Minghao studied previously before going to the military academy, and now it would be Qing Xinyu’s new home.

The van stopped at the parking lot, Huo Ting Cheng got out first, scanning the surroundings before helping Tang Fei down. She took his hand, steady and silent dragging her down to the ground.

The other vans stopped too and they parked. Minghao ran out, her face calm, slightly worried, and hugged Tang Fei tightly.

"Mama... Mama... Are you okay? I heard the loud clashes and gunshots!"

"Did you get hurt? Are you okay?" She checked her up and down worried. Minghao had her own insecurities about losing her momma. You could tell she is worried but not because of the gunshots, as this wasn’t new to her, but worried that her momma could be hurt.

Huo Ting Cheng stood close beside them, his hand resting lightly on Tang Fei’s shoulder as he scanned the perimeter again.

The faint echo of orders being shouted reached them, security officers spreading out, establishing a cordon. The sharp scent of gunpowder still lingered in the air, mixing with the faint sweetness of the autumn wind that drifted through the parking lot.

Even though Minghao was huge and heavy, Tang Fei picked her up into his arms, hugging her, "I’m fine, my dear... Mnnh? Look at me, there’s nothing that can happen to me..." She needed to assure her seeing how worried she was.

"All right momma...." Minghao calmed down cuddling her mother. These hugs were rare since they were big.

Tang Fei tightened her embrace, burying her face briefly in Minghao’s shoulder. The familiar scent of her child filled her lungs, easing the tremor still running through her.

If Minghao was in her arms, then who was that she had seen? Whose image had appeared through the smoke?

Twilight walked over to where they stood, her steps cautious, eyes darting toward the still-fading haze beyond the parking lot. She leaned closer to Tang Fei’s ear and whispered, "Momma... did you see it too?"

From her expression, it was clear Twilight was unsettled and not frightened, but deeply uneasy.

Tang Fei froze. Her heart gave a sharp jolt as she twisted her neck to face Twilight.

So she hadn’t imagined it after all. She wasn’t hallucinating. It was there, but how come the others didn’t see?

Tang Fei quickly shifted Minghao into Huo Ting Cheng’s arms before reaching for Twilight’s hand, pulling her a few paces aside.

"My dear, did you see the same image? Of Minghao? A girl just like Minghao?"

Twilight’s eyes sharpened at the question, no longer that of a nervous teenager but of a trained observer. Her voice was low and controlled.

"I saw it too, Momma..." she spoke up in a low voice, " At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me because of the smoke, but it wasn’t an illusion. The outline was clear, her height, her hair, even the way she moved. It was exactly like Minghao, but Minghao is right here..."

If Minghao was just close to them then who did they see there?

Tang Fei’s pulse immediately quickened, "And then?" She wanted to confirm that whatever she was, Twilight also saw it.

"She turned," Twilight continued, her gaze flicking toward the far end of the parking lot, "as if she noticed us. Her mouth moved, like she was calling for you. But in the next second...." she paused, her tone lowering even further, "....she disappeared. Not run but just vanished, like something pulled her back into the smoke."

Tang Fei’s fingers tightened around Twilight’s wrist, their shared training and instincts sparking an unspoken understanding, "You’re sure it wasn’t a reflection from the van windows? A decoy projection?"

Twilight shook her head firmly, she was certain, "No reflection behaves like that. The aura was off, it felt so alive, like it was a human being. But it wasn’t... her... Since she is here..." She hesitated before adding, " Whatever that was, it wasn’t a trick I know how to make."

Could there be clones and duplicates? How can that be possible? Or how many kids did she give birth to?

Tang Fei exhaled slowly, her gaze flicking to where Minghao was now laughing softly with Huo Ting Cheng, blissfully.

It was Minghao, and not changed, then....

If Twilight saw it too, this was no mere hallucination. What was this all about?

Tang Fei leaned in, her voice dropping to a near whisper, "Don’t mention this to anyone, we will check things by ourselves later on."

"All right momma...." Twilight nodded her head in conclusion, Tang Fei calmed down masking her face with a crooked smile as they went back to where others were standing, just a few steps away.

Huo Ting Cheng and other guards have been watching them from the sides. Huo Ting Cheng immediately instructed Huo Qi to check things out, because he was certain they were talking about that image of a girl resembling Minghao.
