Chapter 414: Has anyone asked the dead?

The words of the warrior reaper stuck with her and Scarlet thought it over, many times. How does one find somebody experiencing incredible luck or incredible misfortune?

This was a big world, if she could compare it to earth, she had landed in say Japan, another reaper was in America, another Canada, another China, someone was somewhere in Nigeria or Uganda or Brazil, Philippines.

The entire world had gone to shit, and there was no saving it, and she wondered if she would spend many years here teleporting from place to place.

This damn trinket could be anywhere and on their own, searching from one city to another or one town at a time for a single individual was not going to get them far, not quickly enough anyway.

"This is going to take a year or more Severus, I don’t know how we are going to do it." she told him.

"Maybe we should ask the others what they think." he suggested.

Both of them were standing on the roof of a tall building, overlooking as much of this new city as they could.

"This place reminds me of Gotham." she said.

"Where is that?" Severus asked curiously.

"A non existent world where a man who dresses up like a bat tries to save an already rotten crime ridden city from destroying itself." she explained.

The dirty abandoned buildings, criminal gangs which were operating in broad day light, she had seen drugs and all sorts of paraphernalia.

Slavery and sex seemed to be a big business here, whether one was willing or not.

"Humanity is doing what it does best as always, destroying themselves." Severus commented.

"With the help of a deity, don’t leave that out, that trinket has contributed." Scarlet reminded him.

"You make it sound like I am defending them." he answered unhappily.

Scarlet rubbed his head and pinched his ear.

"No, my cutie pie, you would never. Nobody tells me that the deities are not that good like you. You always candidly paint a truthful picture of what they are.

If I didn’t have you I would have been hoodwinked a long time ago. Anyway, let’s stop wasting time and see what the group chat thinks about this."

They could only spend so much time watching another group of warrior reapers fighting an evil soul in the sky, a banshee that was screaming loudly through the windows of a house and the soul of a girl that was being carried off by what looked like a monstrous snake with bat wings as more warrior reapers chased after it.

"I was wrong, this place is worse than Gotham, it’s hell." she mumbled in disbelief.

What she was witnessing was not something she ever thought that her eyes would see.

Creatures out of novels, things only heard about in stories roamed this world freely as if they owned it. and she could do nothing about it but watch.

Apparently this was what happened on a condemned world, the deities sent their monsters to finish it off cruelly.

Whatever they imagined, whatever they hid away, whatever they wanted to compete with in viciousness after creating was here for their entertainment.

It was no wonder dead souls kept popping up like mushrooms, a lot of work was going into ensuring this very fact.

Scarlet looked at the forum and sighed, five reapers were already present.

"Hey, this is Scarlet, the hound." she identified herself.

"We know." someone said.

"Hey Scarlet where are you?" Frost asked.

"In a city called Ades, it’s really bad here." She took images with her eyes and uploaded them.

"That’s nothing, take a look at mine." another reaper said.

Everyone started sharing images of the cities where they were searching from currently.

It was the same, destruction, monsters, death, nothing was different. Some of the monsters differed but others were the same.

"I heard that Nyx and his hound are coming to this world." someone said.

"No way, so cool." another answered.

"I hope he comes to my city." Frost squealed.

"By the way, is it true that Nyx said he would only partner up with a female reaper who is as strong as he is and capable of taming a hound?" a female asked.

"Aaaaahhhh." Frost squealed like a little girl. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

"There is only one reaper like that in the underworld, our own guardian reaper Scarlet, the hound." that female reaper added.

Scarlet rolled her eyes and sneered in disbelief. Was any of this people in their right senses?

Did they even know that they were here on a mission? What was this high school gossip session in the group chat?

They were completely nonchalant about all that was happening in this world.

"They have been reapers way longer than you have and some of them are not new to this." Severus told her.

"I know that, but good lord, they have really detached themselves from the affairs of humans so much so that this is just another day at the office to them." Scarlet replied in an irritated voice.

It was like a day of the week that simply came and went because that’s how it was supposed to be.

"If you were not married and had those people as a family, if you were on your own like Ramslin, you would be no different from them. Trust me, to them, the underworld is the only realm that matters." Severus told her.

Scarlet listened carefully to what Severus said and took a loud deep breath.

"You guys, stop discussing nonsense and let us get down to business. This trinket thing is going to take us years to find if we don’t find another way to speed things up.

I for one am not willing to do this for eternity so we should join our heads and think, okay, how do we increase our searching pace.

I was advised to look for someone who is suddenly incredibly lucky or a place that has suddenly been struck with the most misfortune.

But, this is a big world that is full of misfortune in every corner.

How will we know that we have found the right place?"

"You are right, eish why didn’t I think about that?" someone said.

"We should look for anyone that is becoming richer in these times." another suggested.

"Does this world have internet?" someone asked.

Scarlet gasped on hearing the words internet, was that a reaper from earth or on earth?

She was about to say something when someone tapped her on the back.

Scarlet tilted her head slightly to the left and her eyes were met with a pale face woman in white.

"Aah, that banshee." she said.

She was that banshee that had been wailing in the window of a building.

Since Severus was not growling, she had to be okay, or non threatening anyway.

"What is it?" she asked her.

The banshee did something very human like. She brushed her long hair, tucking it behind her ears. She put on a smile and said to Scarlet.

"Sister, I have been listening to your very loud conversation, and I have a question. Has anyone asked the dead?"

Scarlet was quite confused for a while, what did ask the dead mean?
