Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 401: To save the third princess
Chapter 401: To save the third princess
In a different castle on the Blue city at around this same time, Markay was sitting down with his sister Sapphire, the third princess. The princess had only been on the planet for two days now, enjoying the sights and trying out foods from the new food street.
Her plan was to go out and see the chess park, the ever green football fields and the hockey center but Markay stopped her with a sober look on his face. They had been sitting for twenty minutes and he was still stony-faced, and his lips were clamped shut in a thin angry line.
"What is it Markay, spit it out already." She told him. "I have a full itinerary and I will not be returning to the capital any time soon so I need to find a job. Apparently it is frowned upon to be jobless on the Blue star. Why did nobody tell me this? In the capital noble women don’t work, all they do is sleep, shop, eat, gossip, party and enjoy the good things in life. But you know, I think I prefer it here, I feel more like a person than back home where I feel like a living doll on display most of the time."
"Sapphire shut up for a minute." Markay said sternly.
The third princess tilted her head in wonder and she eyed Markay carefully. In her eyes was the question, who did you just tell to shut up?
"I think you are forgetting that I am the older sister here Marky." She said with laughter in her voice.
"Don’t call me that Sapphire or I will get angry." He warned her seriously.
Even though she was smiling, lines of tension were visible on the sides of her eyes. The truth was that an angry Markey sacred the shit out of her. It scared everyone in the royal family frankly.
"Nobody needs to get angry, you just need to talk. You are making me anxious brother, you know I don’t like being anxious." She answered.
She was a nail biter, a serial one who did that every time feelings of anxiety overwhelmed her. It was an unsanitary habit, one which the empress had tried so hard to beat out of her literally. Her fingers had received many physical slaps when she was growing up. Her mother even almost sliced them off once just because she bit them at the funeral for mecha warriors after winter.
Markey stood up and placed both hands behind his back. "Do you know how Scarlet married Esong?" he asked her, as he slowly paced back and forth.
It was an unexpected question to the third princess but not one without an answer because she did know.
"Yeeeees," she drawled out slowly, unsure of where the conversation was heading.
"You need to do the same thing with Beord or Adler Su if your intention to marry one of them stands true." He said.
Sapphire almost choked on her saliva and she suddenly broke into a fitful cough, banging her left hand on her chest.
"Wha.., what?" she asked in between coughs.
Was he crazy or did he not recall the scandal within the family walls after it happened? Did he also forget the trauma Esong faced, the self-loathing, the isolation? The entire thing had been a nightmare for the family.
Mentioning her interest in one of the Su sins had been done impulsively. It was not as if she was in love with any of them. Moreover what her brother was suggesting was a crime.
Markey looked at her seriously and he said, "I know that it’s not ethical and it’s outrageous but the lunar federation’s emperor has reached out. They are suggesting an old peace treaty methodology that has been relied on by empires for hundreds of years. A political marriage between our side and theirs, guess who that lucky royal child to marry into their empire is going to be?"
Sapphire squealed in shock, her eyes wide and she pointed to herself.
Markey nodded and Sapphire shook her head.
"No, no, never, I will not do it. How could father consider marrying me off to those barbarians?" She asked in an exasperated voice.
"He is an emperor thinking about the future of his people. A political alliance with them will end the on and off wars, we can have peace for a while. It’s a good thing." Markey explained.
"For the empire, but not for me!!!." Sapphire yelled. "I will not do it; I would rather die than marry into the lunar federation. They will humiliate and kill me if they suddenly wake up one day and change their minds about the political alliance.
And how do you think I will be treated if I marry over there? I will not be loved or praised; I will be reviled and disdained, seen as nothing more than a trophy that was given to them because we are afraid of them or something.
If father tries to make me do this I will end my life, I swear to you brother." Her voice deepened as she made that resolution, speaking with so much anger and determination.
"I know that." Markey said, and he approached her, looking into his sister’s eyes he knew that she meant what she said.
Of them all, Sapphire longed for freedom the most, that ability to do what she wanted without restrictions.
She had once said that if she could choose her birth family, she would not have picked the royal family. It was not because she did not love them but rather because of the scrutiny, expectations, plotting, fear and other worries which came with being a royal.
"The Lunar federation places emphasis on the purity of the brides of their princes. I am sure that mother has gone out of her way to ensure that you remain untouched to date. But, if this purity is gone suddenly, they will reject you. I know that this is a crazy plan and I will not force you into it. My mind just went there after I had a conversation with our father.
I have been thinking about this for a while now. You need to get a man, a strong respected man just as Scarlet did for herself, you can seduce or convince him, it doesn’thave to be exactly what Scarlet did. If the Su brothers won’t do, I can recommend others from influential families.
Admiral Folsom for one, is a great candidate and my good friend, he will make a fine husband for you. Look at this list, come on, let’s go through the names together and you can make a decision. I will assist you all the way in whatever you need to do. I do not want to lose you Sapphire, not to the lunar federation and not to death." He showed her a list with fifty names, all handpicked by him as suitable men for his sister.
Markay was determined to save his sister from what was a sure death if the lunars got their hands on her.
If they wanted peace, let their princess marry his brother. It would not be the other way round, he would make sure of it.
