Transmigrated to Another World and Doted on by Everyone!-Chapter 249: Extra: Ancient Times (Part 2)
Rong Xingyu did not even dare to imagine how the original owner had managed to grow up under such circumstances.
No wonder when he had touched this body earlier, it had been so thin that it was little more than skin and bones.
In name, he was still a "young master" of the household, but in reality, even the servants had never regarded him with any respect.
Growing up in such an environment, it was inevitable that the original owner’s personality became gloomy and withdrawn.
Coupled with long term malnutrition, his body had always been extremely frail.
At the very moment Rong Xingyu transmigrated into this body, the original owner had finally closed his eyes for good after years of suppressed anguish.
Rong Xingyu raised a hand to touch his chest and could not help sighing once more.
The original owner’s short life could be described as utterly miserable.
And the knot in his heart that was formed over many years had been nearly impossible to untangle.
Perhaps even dying from depression had been, in some way, a kind of release for him.
Returning his thoughts to the present, Rong Xingyu plunged his hands into the cold water and shivering from the chill.
That finally snapped him fully back to his senses.
The one living inside this body now was already Rong Xingyu.
The most urgent matter was to think about what he should do next.
After all, in the dead of winter, having to wash his hands and face with water just drawn from the well was truly bracing.
And Rong Xingyu did not know whether he alone had come to this world.
If Ding Yixin had also arrived here with him, where might he be now?
What if his situation was even more difficult than Rong Xingyu’s current one?
Rong Xingyu could not help frowning.
Just then, a voice suddenly came from outside.
A servant dressed as a pageboy walked in.
After stopping, he first sized Rong Xingyu up, then gave a careless cupped-fist salute and said, "Second Young Master, the Old Madam has asked you to go to the front hall."
Although the servant addressed him as "Second Young Master," there was not the slightest trace of respect in his attitude.
Rong Xingyu’s frown deepened.
"Grandmother?" he repeated.
Back then, the Old Madam had never liked the original owner’s mother, especially when she had been elevated to concubine, rumor had it the Old Madam had even fallen ill from anger because of it.
For all these years, she had practically acted as though she had no such grandson.
So why was she suddenly summoning him to the front hall?
One had to know that the original owner had rarely even left this side courtyard, let alone set foot in the front hall where serious matters were discussed.
Could something have happened?
Rong Xingyu pondered silently.
But in the brief moment he remained quiet, the servant immediately grew impatient.
"If you’re told to go, then go! Hurry up, Second Young Master. I’ve delivered the message... If the Old Madam decides to blame someone later..."
Rong Xingyu lifted his eyes and looked at the servant coldly.
The servant’s incessantly chattering mouth froze at once and he shut up awkwardly.
Only after Rong Xingyu left did he stare at Rong Xingyu’s back, suddenly shivering as if just realizing something.
After he muttering a curse about bad luck, the servant hurried after him.
He himself did not understand why he had been frightened by Rong Xingyu’s gaze just now.
Although the Second Young Master had always seemed gloomy before, he had never felt this kind of fear.
As soon as Rong Xingyu arrived at the front hall, he saw an elegantly dignified old lady seated in the place of honor, along with the scumbag father dressed in his court robes.
It looked as though the man had just returned from court.
There was also a young girl dressed in equally luxurious attire which adorned with gold and jewels lying against the Old Madam’s lap and sobbing softly.
For a moment, the only sound in the front hall was the girl’s aggrieved crying.
The old lady stroked the girl’s hair as she softly coaxed her, as though even a couple of tears from her caused unbearable heartache.
Rong Xingyu swept a cold glance around the room before stepping forward to bow to those seated at the head.
"Grandmother. Father."
At the sound of Rong Xingyu’s voice, the girl who had been crying suddenly fell silent and turned to look at him.
The moment she saw his face, a flash of jealousy crossed her eyes.
It was quickly followed by open undisguised contempt.
This must be the daughter born to the principal wife, she looks like about the same age as the original owner.
Logically speaking, this young lady had grown up pampered since childhood. For some reason, however, she was now crying so miserably.
Before long, Rong Xingyu got his answer.
"Have me take my sister’s place?"
Rong Xingyu almost showed an expression of utter disbelief. "But I am a man, how exactly am I supposed to take her place?"
This was simply absurd.
What had he just heard?
The old lady actually wanted him to marry someone in place of this young lady?
If he hadn’t constantly reminded himself that he was currently under someone else’s roof, Rong Xingyu might have laughed out of sheer anger.
The girl let out a heavy snort and her tone turned arrogant. "What’s wrong with having you take my place? It’s your honor."
"And who’s your sister? What are you, anyway? Don’t flatter yourself!"
Hearing this, the scumbag father called out the girl’s name, and she reluctantly fell silent.
She then turned to him again and said coquettishly, "Father, am I wrong?"
The man lifted his teacup and took a sip, saying nothing.
"That General Ding, they say he’s vicious and cruel, and unbearably ugly, he’s so that ugly he can scare passing children into tears. I refuse to marry him! Father, can you really bear to send your daughter to the general’s residence to suffer?"
