Chapter 43: One seond of lust.

Sienna gasped. Her bag fell to the floor, landing softly on the carpet with a thud. "Na..na..ked?" She stammered. She covered her neck, eyeing him with suspicion. "Biting!" She had read her fair share of werewolf paranormal romance novels to know what the biting business was about.

Yes, it was a sign that she was taken. But, in most of the books she had read, the bite was pleasurable and often ended in sex or a heavy make out session. Both of those things would complicate her life.

But----her eyes roamed over Elias, taking in his handsome face and sturdy figure. Being bedded by a beast man like him would not leave her with regrets. This body had already slept with him and they had kids.

It wasn’t like anyone was expecting her to be a virgin. Sleeping with her husband a few times before the divorce was not a crime.

Suddenly, the story her mother had told her about her biological father crossed her mind. It made Sienna wonder if this was what her mom experienced with him. Why she had been tempted. Why she ended up in misery.

One second of lust, a life time of misery!

"We should leave now, I have made us late this time round." Elias said in his ’business as usual’ voice. He opened the door, and gestured for her to walk out ahead of him.

Sienna picked up her bag, and slowly walked out, giving her best ’business as usual’ face. Since he was not making this a big deal, she would do the same. It was just scenting, nothing special. Beast men and women did it all the time.

She stepped out of the house, her hair slightly tousled, her cheeks flushed and her gown faintly wrinkled. Elias followed, his expression composed, but his jaw tight and eyes slightly red.

The servants and guards waiting along the footpath in a line lowered their heads. They froze. Their nostrils flared, eyes widening. The scent of their fox lord clung to the lady like a second skin, unmistakable, undeniable. Whispers rippled through them.

"She is carrying his scent."

"Impossible."

"Aren’t they divorcing?"

"How long were they alone inside?"

Sienna, oblivious to the weight of their shock, only smiled, flinging her bag front and back. It was Elias’s piercing gaze at her back that silenced the servants and guards.

"Where is Ali?" She asked.

Shalin answered nervously, "Mrs. Miller took her and the boys to buy some things that are lacking at home."

Sienna nodded. She climbed onto the steps of the ship that could be used as an escalator. It elevated her to the ship within ten seconds. Elias followed and as usual, he went to the pilot’s cabin.

"Why does he always go in there? It is not as if he is the captain." She muttered.

Shalin chuckled.

The ship lifted, into the blue sky, sails unfurling like wings. Sienna walked inside and sat with her back against the railing, watching the clouds through a window. "It is just like being on an airplane and a ship at the same time," she said, giggling, "I used to think ships only sailed on water. Isn’t this strange?"

"Your thoughts are the same as the beast men a century and a half ago when the first flying ship was designed and built." Elias responded.

Sienna tilted her head and looked up. What was he doing out of the pilot’s cabin? "If I had been alive back then, I would have thought the same thing. Are you here to go over what I should say in the palace?"

Elias sat down across from her, placing his hands on the table. "I am worried about your temper."

She laughed. "Your temper is worse than mine. They say you refuse to submit to the beast king. Shouldn’t I be worried more about you than the lord mouse and his wife?"

Elias crossed his arms across his chest. "My relationship with Leon is complicated. We are allies and sometimes competitors. Do not trust the rumors, he likes me more than he dares to admit."

Sienna laughed. She turned her head back to the window, sighing softly. "Do bird beast men fly this high? When Soren gets his wings, I am pulling out the saddle."

Elias’s lips curved, amused by her silly frankness. "He is not a horse. This kind of language is what will make us regular guests of Leon and Serenya."

Sienna laughed.

The ship descended an hour later into the grand courtyard of the Beast palace. As Sienna stepped down, her scent struck the palace guards like a wave. The last time they had seen her, she had not reeked of the lord fox.

Sienna noticed their noses working overtime and she almost laughed. In a way, they looked like gossiping aunties at a family gathering. They simply had to know who smelled like whom!

Murmurs rose wherever she passed. Even Queen Serenya herself nearly slipped from her throne, a long chair that was painted gold. It was carved of ivory, the only one in its existence because of a law passed by the king.

"Well, well," the Queen said, her voice lifting with amusement. I am a lady in every way but goodness Sienna, you have aroused the curious beast in me. Did the lord fox dip you in a tub with water that carried his scent or did you two roll around until it overwhelmed you?"

Sienna’s cheeks burned crimson. "I...I don’t know what you mean," she stammered.

The Queen chuckled, waving her hand dismissively. "Don’t be shy, it’s just us here. It is rare to meet a human carrying the scent of a beast man so strongly like this. You must have been very, very, very close."

Sienna looked at Elias who remained impassive as though nothing that was said concerned him. She brushed her hair back and laughed, "He is very big on hugging. He must hug me in the morning, whenever he comes home, when we are eating, when we are sleeping." she said, her voice light, though her heart raced.

How good were their smelling senses, could they smell her lies?
