Transmigrated as The Forgotten Extra-Chapter 102 Request.
Cain was silent for a moment before nodding to the woman. He cast a gaze toward her side. It was rude, but the boy wanted to check her condition after he absorbed all the virus inside her body.
Her silky silver hair cascaded down her back with a lustrous glimmer. Her face was clear and unblemished, the skin smooth. There was not a single mark left from that crimson crack, which left dread. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The boy exhaled a short breath; relief washed over his expression after noticing that senior Luna’s mother was fine. Cain accidentally locked eyes with the woman, who parted her lips into a joyful smirk. He tilted his head sideways, wondering what was in her mind.
Before the confused boy, the woman raised her palm to cover her giggling lips. She glanced at senior Luna, then spoke teasingly.
"Oh my, Luna. I guess the apple wouldn’t fall away from its tree."
’Hm?’
Cain’s body flinched at those words. He looked at his connected hands, then averted his gaze elsewhere. Heat started to gather on his cheek, feeling conscious about the presence of the beautiful girl beside him.
"Ah?"
A moment of silence descended around the room. The silver-haired girl raised their interlocking hands, she swapped her gaze toward Cain and her mother before throwing the boy’s arm, making him jolt with sudden pain.
"O-Oh, sorry, I-I was just so happy that..."
Senior Luna took a step back. Her blue eyes darted around the place, not daring to meet face-to-face with Cain nor her smirking mother. The girl shook her hands vehemently, then looked down to hide the pink on her cheeks that stretched to her ears.
"It’s okay, senior Luna. I don’t mind it at all."
Cain took a step forward, but the flustered girl backed down, flinching away from his approach. Then, to pour oil into the flame, Luna’s mother interjected from her bed.
"Of course he wouldn’t mind, after all it’s pretty rare to get a chance in holding hands with my beautiful darling daughter."
The atmosphere in the room froze. Cain’s gapped mouth struggles to form a word that was stuck in his throat. On the other hand, senior Luna stared at her mother, her eyes widened in shock. A moment later, the silver-haired girl turned her gaze slowly to match up with Cain.
He held his breath, watching senior Luna’s flustered gaze. The girl had long eyelashes that fluttered gently as her gaze trembled. Luna’s pink, moist lips stirred something in his chest, making his heart rate skyrocket.
The boy was drawn to her vulnerability. His right hand twitched, barely held back from reaching out to cup her cheek, from pulling her close. But as the atmosphere between them turned pink, the devilish mother’s playful words shattered the mood.
"Oh my, should I leave the room?"
Snapping out of his daze, Cain held his breath as he tried to starve his brain of oxygen and halt his dangerous thought. He gulped hard to moisten his parched throat and watched the mother-daughter duo stare at each other.
A beat later, the mother smirked with glee, which made the girl puff out her cheeks, fuming with anger. Senior Luna stomped the floor hard before turning her back from Cain, leaving the room.
Each stride she took produced loud steps that echoed in the room, through the hallways. And when the girl was out of his sight, a laugh broke out from the bed, prompting him to glance at the source.
"Ahahaha, it’s been a while since I got to see her adorable side like that."
Cain sighed, the tension leaving his body. Now he knows where those teasing tendencies Luna inherited from.
Turns out it was from her mother all along.
Everything made sense because not only did the two share the same trait, but they also had a beautiful figure with silver hair that glittered like precious jewels, except for their eyes. Senior Luna was inheriting her father’s genes, while her mother had the same black eyes as her brother Albert.
After calming down, the woman wiped the tears that had accumulated in the corner of her eyes. She inhaled a deep breath, then straightened her posture to greet her guest.
"Let me introduce myself, Cain. My name is Selena Winterfell, it’s a pleasure to meet you, my life savior."
Selena’s words were deep, laced with authority that made the atmosphere come to a halt. It was a stark difference from the playful woman, who enjoyed teasing her daughter.
Cain exhaled and stepped forward to stare intently at the silver-haired woman.
"The pleasure is mine, Lady Winterfell. And for your health, it was just a coincidence that..."
Before the boy could finish his words, the woman raised her hand. Then, her serious expression melted into a warm smile.
"Please, don’t humble yourself like that!" Selena stopped for a moment before continuing, "I don’t care whether it was a coincidence, fate, whatever. The only thing I care about is that you save my life."
"..."
Cain kept his mouth shut, not daring to interrupt the woman’s talk.
It is a debt that cannot be quantified. Therefore, I offer you the support of the Winterfell family for as long as I draw breath."
He held his breath for a couple of seconds. The terms Selena mentioned were something that would make people jump for joy, but Cain saw them a bit differently.
Why does Selena dare to say something that gives him support for life?
Was it because of gratitude? Or was there something she hid deep behind those neutral expressions of hers?
As expected from a Winterfell family. Hearing what Selena offered to him. Their family must hold a certain power within the city, which made him curious as to what that was.
The boy stared into the woman’s black eyes, seeing his own reflection. He clenched his fists, unable to read the intention behind her neutral mask. She managed to hide it well. Cold sweat began to drench his back, and the stilled atmosphere began to coil around his neck, choking him slowly.
Cain shrugged, exhaling the breath he was holding. He looked straight into the woman’s eyes and bowed slightly.
"...I gratefully accept your generosity."
"Thank you, your words truly put my heart at ease."
Hearing the woman’s words, Cain couldn’t help but smile. He gazed at the floor, thinking of what sort of deal he had just made. The boy lifted his face, murmuring in his heart.
’Well, my life was already a scripted play. Might as well accept a powerful patron and learn to improvise my lines.’
Not only because of the system that gave him immense power in exchange for his memories. The thing helps Cain achieve his goal: to get stronger and survive in this cruel, dying world.
But thanks to that, his life was tied to an unknown string that put him into a prepared stage.
And now another deal struck him with a delicious offer. A helping hand from Selena, whom he saved from a perilous situation, forced him to fall into a staged play, directed by an unknown being watching out there.
However, if that was the wish of the star far out there, Cain had to ensure he utilized it well.
The grey-haired boy put a hand on his chin, deep in thought. Then, a fragment of memories he shared with senior Luna in that shooting field when she gave him her weapon. He glanced at the woman on the bed and spoke.
"I’m sorry to ask you this suddenly, but I have a request."
Selena raised her brows; her calm expression hinted at a slight eagerness to grant his request.
"What is it? Tell me!"
Cain nodded before adding. "Can you make me a weapon?"
