Chapter 42: End [VI]

Elias covered his mouth with his gloved hand. His fingers tightened on his jaw as he continued to stare at Kade.

’He shouldn’t die.’

Elias was not panicking, which was quite a surprise considering his paranoid personality.

However, Elias knew the reason behind his calmness. It was the glowing red orb present in the broken wine bottle.

It was affecting him.

Just looking at it started to numb Elias’s mind.

If it didn’t, Elias wouldn’t have been covering his mouth with a blood-soaked hand!

’I should hurry.’

Elias turned back his gaze towards Kade. Yet, Elias didn’t see Kade’s body relaxing.

Seizures were passing through Kade’s body, and his body started to twitch unnaturally.

"Aaggghhh!"

Suddenly, Kade screamed. His eyes opened, bulging unnaturally, his body twisting.

After this, his body went limp, as if he were dead.

Was he?

Elias turned to look at the split-open chest of Kade.

The heart! It was still. It was not beating.

Tick tock.

The second felt longer. Before the heart started to pump again.

Ba-dump, ba-dump!

Elias wiped his face and carefully took the wine bottle.

Taking the bottle, he felt his mind muddling, but fighting the sensation, he put the bottle in Kade’s open chest, positioned it around the torn muscles, and caved in rib bones.

"He wouldn’t last long," Elias muttered, seeing the amount of blood lost by Kade.

Kade wouldn’t have died if the red orb had still been present inside him. But now that Elias had taken it out, Kade had lost his powers.

He was nothing but an ordinary man like Elias.

"I just need him for a few minutes, nothing else." Elias stared at Kade before moving and taking hold of his leg. "Just a few minutes."

Following this, he started to pull him.

Step, step.

The sound of steps echoed, bouncing from the wall of the underground arena.

Scrrrape...

Accompanying the sound of the steps was the sound of something heavy being dragged.

"Where the hell is it?"

The sound of someone groaning echoed.

"Huff... I don’t think I have much time left."

Drip

Sweat dripped, mixed with stains of red.

’She had killed everyone.’ Elias glanced at his surroundings.

As he went towards Kade’s room, he only saw bodies. They were littered around, and the blood had now started to dry.

’Focus on your own work.’

Shaking his head, he groaned again.

"Why the hell is his room so far away?"

Words left from his lips as Elias’s messy face became messier.

Blood had dried on his clothes, red glistening on his face, mixed with sweat. His body dripped with sweat as his dark auburn hair stuck to his face.

"Why is this thing bigger than my castle?"

Elias started to blabber.

He had been doing so for some minutes. It was the effect of the red energy leaking from the orb.

Slap

He once more slapped himself.

"Room. Keep in mind, the room is where I have to go first, and then I can do anything that I want."

Elias continued to walk.

There was not much time left, considering the person he was dragging could only last for a maximum of an hour, if he was being optimistic.

"Being optimistic is a good thing."

Elias giggled at his own words.

His laugh echoed in the silent hallway, which was littered with bodies.

Crimson had painted the surroundings, the red haze covering everything. The metallic smell was prominent as the sound of babbling, mixed with someone walking while dragging something heavy, broke the silence.

Step, step.

Scrrrape...

"Finally."

Elias muttered, his tired face smiling.

Opening the door of the room he stood in front of, he entered while dragging the body of Kade with him, leaving trails of red behind.

After entering the chamber, he first positioned Kade’s body on a chair perfectly.

"You are quite heavy, you know," he groaned, wiping his sweat. "Eat less."

Next, he started to search the whole room.

The room was big, bigger than Elias’s barony’s chamber.

The things present in the room were the same.

A bed better than Elias’s. A study table and chair, better than Elias’s.

A bathroom chamber better and bigger than Elias’s. In a nutshell, everything was bigger and better than Elias’s chamber.

"I am doing good for society by killing this rich scumbag," Elias sneered.

"Here it is."

Finding what he was looking for, he stood up and reached Kade, disregarding the littered papers here and there near the table.

"He is still alive. Thank god."

Elias clasped his hand as he looked at the pale body of Kade before taking the beautifully decorated knife he had found.

"It was the right thumb, wasn’t it?"

He muttered to himself.

"It was."

Elias reached out for Kade’s right hand and sliced it off.

After slicing it off, he kept the thumb aside. Following this, he spun the bloody knife and moved his hand and opened the eyelid of Kade.

"Open it for me."

Elias, taking the knife, smiled. The edges of the knife sank as he gouged out the eye of Kade.

"Nice and perfect."

Elias muttered with a smile as blood dripped from his face.

Taking the thumb and the eye, he moved towards the stand present next to the bed of Kade.

Throwing the flowerpot aside, Elias pressed Kade’s thumb on the mark present there.

Screeeech...

The sound echoed as the upper part of the cupboard opened. There was a shining, glassy eye-like thing present there.

Elias, taking the eyeball of Kade, shoved it on that thing.

Tick tock.

Seconds stretched before the sound of wood groaning echoed.

Following the sound, another sound echoed as the bookshelf present next to the study table opened.

"Whoo, finally, dammit," Elias muttered under his breath, throwing aside the thumb and the eyeball. "What I was waiting for."

A satisfied smile crept on his face as he walked near the entrance.

Glancing at the dark underground place where the steps led to, Elias took the knife and, taking the first step on the stairway, turned around.

"So much security," groaning under his breath, Elias reached with his hands and slid the knife perfectly into the compartment present above the entrance, where it slotted in flawlessly with a click sound.

As the knife slotted into the compartment, the sound of torches lighting up echoed.

Elias turned around, and he saw the darkness getting pushed back by the torches.

"Finally," he muttered before starting to descend the stairways.

Not a minute has gone by.

"Why the fuck is everything here so annoying?"

Elias groaned, speeding his descent, but the stairway was deep enough for him to still lose time.

After minutes of cursing, Elias at last reached the last step.

His eyes shone gold as he glanced at the chamber he was in.

The room was small. It was so small that Elias had to lower his head to enter the chamber.

Along with being small, the room looked to be carved out of the stone, just like the stairways.

But even though the room looked like a place where primitive man lived, it was filled with boxes.

Boxes that looked like a safe for keeping important things were everywhere, stacked all around the floor upon one another. A wooden chair and a desk were also present, looking out of place.

Elias didn’t stare for long.

Lowering his head, he entered the chamber and reached the desk and chair.

Elias shifted his hands and took the chair, positioning it according to the almost invisible four holes present on the ground. He did the same for the table, too.

As he positioned both.

Khrr...

The sound echoed before a box present in line with the entrance, between all the other boxes, and at the bottom... opened. Its color also changed, turning from steel to black.

Elias turned to glance at the box. A smile crept on his face.

The box had two other boxes. One was crimson in color, which was square in shape, and another was green in color, which was octagonal in shape.

Elias sat down and took both boxes. His smile only stretched.

Following this, he turned towards the box on the left side.

Rotating the iron handle, Elias tried to open the box. And it opened without any hitch.

Gold coins spilled out, making a chinking sound.

Elias, however, only took one and then opened some other boxes before finally finding the one he wanted.

The box contained vials of potion. Potion made for healing.

Taking one vial, Elias made his way back to the room.

His steps echoed as he climbed as fast as he could.

Exiting the stairway, he hurriedly walked towards Kade.

"A little bit. A little bit," Elias hummed as he opened the vial and poured a little bit of its green content into Kade’s mouth.

"Nice and slow."

Elias smiled and closed Kade’s mouth before shaking his head as if mixing the contents he had poured inside his mouth.

"This would be enough, I think."

Elias contemplated looking between the vial and Kade. "This would be."

Following this, he opened the crimson box and turned, taking the wine bottle positioned inside Kade’s chest.

"Eaugh..."

Carefully, Elias slid the red orb inside the box and closed it.

"—————"

"Ha!"

Elias felt his legs weakening, his breath hitching as he inhaled loudly.

"I should stay away from things like this."

He muttered, falling on the chair.

Once more, everything was back. The numbing feeling around his head had gone away. He could once again feel the churn in his stomach, his brain feeling heavy, and the urge to run away from here.

"Sigh. I should get done with it."

Elias glanced at the green-colored box. Then he glanced at Kade.

Once more, his heart felt heavy. Darkness crept from his vision.

"Ha... I have to kill him myself, don’t I?"
