Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All-Chapter 369 - 246: Second Aunt’s Thoughts (Part 2)
"It would have been fine to eat when it was freshly made, but now it’s been over a month. Be careful not to get a stomachache."
Both of them leaned on the stone railing by the pond, which was wide and sturdy.
They placed several yellow bean flour balls in the bamboo basket and lowered it with a rope to the corner of the pond.
"I’ve caught fish before, but not often. Sometimes I only catch a few in a day; it’s much easier to fish, and you can even catch big ones."
"You like fishing too?" Xiaomi was surprised; not many girls enjoyed fishing.
"Yeah, I even make my own hooks and lines. I’ll teach you sometime when we’re not digging for bamboo shoots."
Grass was now almost treating Xiaomi as a good friend; after all, they had eaten roasted sweet potatoes, searched for pigweed, and caught fish together.
"We can fish while setting traps for small fish; you can catch a lot that way. The fish I caught have sold for over a hundred copper coins!"
Grass was quite proud, and Xiaomi was genuinely surprised.
"That’s amazing." Xiaomi looked at her with starry eyes. She had fished with Grandpa Liu before but had given up in less than half an hour due to lack of patience.
Grass, a bit embarrassed by the compliment, said, "I’ll teach you; I’m really good at fishing."
The two little girls chatted and laughed all the time, getting along extremely well without any fuss or bother.
It wasn’t until Grass’s parents returned from work and asked her to go home and prepare dinner that Xiaomi said goodbye and left.
In half an hour by the pond, using a large handful of yellow bean flour balls, they had only caught a dozen finger-length small fish, among which there were a few small carp. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
When Xiaomi mentioned that carp could be raised without much effort as they don’t die easily and could breed more fish, Grass said she wanted to give it a try.
Last winter, Grass’s dad had dug a small pit by the house, not big, roughly the size of two dining tables, and one person deep.
However, he specifically diverted water from the canal, and now there were only a few water hyacinths, so it shouldn’t be a problem to raise fish.
Xiaomi casually splashed some water in Grass’s pond, taking the opportunity to add some Spiritual Spring water. The little carp were attracted by the Spiritual Energy, and Xiaomi got up to leave.
Grass’s mother wanted to keep her for dinner, but Xiaomi declined and arranged with Grass to go up the mountain together in the afternoon.
This morning, Grass’s father also went to the city to sell bamboo shoots. This time of year was generally a good time to earn some money.
Although bamboo shoots were cheap and required a ticket to enter the city, at least they didn’t need capital.
Besides, there were only two seasons in a year – spring and winter – when one could eat fresh bamboo shoots, so there were many buyers.
Of course, during this time, a lot of dried bamboo shoots would also be dried. These could be sold slowly in the future or used as food during lean months.
On her way back, Xiaomi also saw an adult carrying a basket on their back, coming down from the mountain.
It seemed that, after finishing up recent tasks, not only children were busy digging for bamboo shoots, but adults had also joined in.
"You’re back? Go to the back and call your dad; we can eat soon."
As soon as she reached the kitchen, before she could speak, Second Aunt gave instructions without turning her head.
Xiaomi pouted, "Mom, how did you know it was me?"
Second Aunt glanced at her, "Who else walks so lightly in our house but you?"
Xiaomi paused, "Oh, right."
Then Xiaomi hopped away, "I’ll go call Dad to eat."
There was a dedicated stable behind the courtyard, not small, now used to raise cattle and pigs.
After all, with walls all around the courtyard, keeping them inside wouldn’t provide good ventilation and would be smelly.
Moreover, Jiang Hu and Qixi had widened and lengthened the stable, and chickens, ducks, and geese were temporarily kept there too.
When Xiaomi arrived, she saw her dad picking up a cooked one, observing it carefully with Uncle Liu.
"Dad, Grandpa Liu, what are you looking at? Mom says we can eat now."
Jiang Hu snapped back to reality and put down the bamboo rat in his hand: "This bamboo rat is pregnant. It seems they’ve adapted to the new environment and have finally started breeding."
"Really!" Xiaomi was delighted and ran over, "The bamboo rat is going to have babies too?"
Perhaps previously, these little ones had stayed too long in the cart cage, showing signs of stress.
Having been in Xiangmu Village for so long, they hadn’t entered the breeding state at all.
