Transcending Realms With My Leveling System As A Demon-Chapter 43: Emilia’s Final Wish...
Zylus had left Kash’s office, and they let him know to come back there by tomorrow morning. He was now walking through the same alley he nearly been jumped in, but now the sky was dark, and silent crickets filled the area. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Shkkk.
Zylus turned rapidly, hearing a weird bushy sound that felt out of the ordinary, but he didn’t sense any malicious intent in those movements.
"Weird..." He whispered, turning back into the path he was originally walking through.
"I heard what happened." A whisper came from just in front.
Zylus shifted his gaze towards where that voice came from, and it was none other than the first woman he connected with since coming here, in pink, cuddled pajamas.
She stood there, clearly having rushed out without thinking, her hands trembling at her sides.
"Emilia...?" Zylus questioningly left his eyes widened, "It’s dangerous for a noble like you to be out here, you should go back, I’ll take you back if you want."
"Zylus!" A tear came strolling down her face, "I know where you’re going tomorrow, I eavesdropped on your conversation with the higher ranks!" Her scream sounded painful. Zylus was oblivious to what she was trying to say.
"Oh, you do?" He nervously smiled, "I’m just going on a stroll, that’s all."
"Why do you stand here and lie to me?!" Emilia’s gaze met with Zylus’s piercing red eyes, "Am I not trustworthy?!" She cried out for an answer, but Zylus didn’t know what to respond with.
His gaze darkened, and he shifted his focus downwards, "It’s not that, Emilia."
"Then what is it?!"
"I can’t put any more of you in danger!" Zylus’s scream echoed across the alley, a bird chirping lighted the darkened path, "I’m the reason why Zenos can’t fight anymore! I’m the one who invited Michael! If it wasn’t for my dumb, ignorant self, then maybe, just maybe, none of us could’ve been in trouble!" A tear also rolled down his face, one of his first honestly, "I’m sorry, but I can’t associate with you anymore." He let out a calm breath, starting to walk forward.
"It wasn’t your fault!" Emilia’s scream touched his heart, but he couldn’t bear the calm easiness he felt from it.
"It was!" Zylus scream saddened Emilia, "I’m sorry for screaming, but it was. Ever since I was born, I was met with consequences, so why, why can’t you just leave me alone? If I’m alone, then I’ll be able to deal with those drawbacks, but being with somebody else, I can’t bear it." He spat onto the floor as he passed by Emilia, "Don’t you get it? I bring pain to others if I’m not by myself... And I’m uncertain myself if I’ll die soon or not. So you shouldn’t connect with me-"
"Don’t say that!" Emilia yelled, running towards Zylus’s back.
Bam!
Emilia shoved him down, pinning him there as her voice broke, for the man she grew tightly with and the man she wanted to be with the most.
"I said, don’t say that!" Zylus breathed calmly, saddened by her words, "Why does anybody deserve this?! Especially you, you’re a good guy, Zylus, and look at me, I’m still happy." She smiled as tears continued to fall down her face.
Zylus started to turn. As he put Emilia’s face onto his chest, he looked at the beautiful night sky while Emilia continued to cry onto his chest.
"Some people don’t get to choose, some people are just born with that, and that was what fate gave me from the start, it’s like that’s a blessing of mine." Zylus whispered, covering the moonlit sky above with his right hand, "And I have to live with that, and I’ve done that all my life, so another couple of decades won’t tear me up as much as I’ve already been. So be safe when I’m gone, promise me that."
She lifted herself angrily, her palms pressed down on the ground as they stared at eachother closely.
"I won’t promise you because you’re wrong!" Water fell onto Zylus’s face, and it came from Emilia’s tears, "Fate can never be chosen, especially not for someone like you!"
"But it has." Zylus responded with a saddened smile, "I can’t defy it, I’m a demon just like you afterall."
"But you said it yourself." Emilia tried catching her breath, slamming onto the wet floor below, which became smushy from her tears, "You said you’re the ’Soverign of Uncertainity!’ So how can you be so certain about your own fate?" She let out a calm final touch to her shattered emptiness, one that screamed of love.
And in that moment, things began replaying in Zylus’s head, his journey since he came to this realm.
"What was I even saying?" Zylus smiled, lifting Emilia from her chest, "I’ll save this world, and come back to you alive."
She still didn’t let go, but now a glimpse of hope surrounded her eyes, "You promise?" Emilia asked with such a soft, elegant tone.
Zylus smiled back at her, "I promise."
"Before you go, can I let you know one more thing?" Emilia asked, sniffing as she wiped her tears away.
"Ask anything," Zylus said, both his hands lifted her.
She leaned forward, closer and closer to Zylus, as he just wondered what it was she was doing.
"..." Zylus was left in shock.
"Remember this, idiot!" Emilia moved back up and started leaving the area, but before she exited the alleyway, Emilia made sure to leave him with one last whisper, "I love you, Zylus."
It was a kiss, and his first kiss at that. Even if shock fell onto his face, the path forward would turn into one of his hardest, and he had to prepare, making sure nothing would affect him.
"I love you too," Zylus calmed himself after the breath, "Emilia."
In this moment, Zylus’s eyes had been purified with light once again in them, and darkened unconscious rage didn’t control his behavior anymore, but it was because now he had a promise.
And that was to come back to Emilia...
Alive.
