Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner-Chapter 307 - 228 PDD Deduction Rules
Chapter 307: Chapter 228 PDD Deduction Rules
Recall the teaser of the previous Chapter.
After Minamoto Tamako descended the mountain, she immediately went to find the investigating officer to inquire about the results. If possible, she hoped to see the dossier... Naturally, the result was unexpected; the officer intended to conclude it as a suicide.
Her long-held frustration finally erupted, protesting that it couldn’t be handled so flippantly. After all, this was a murder case that required thorough investigation to determine the truth, and a fair judgment must be given so future generations could learn from it. Rather than burying all the unsung murder cases, treating them as if nothing happened, and merely painting a facade of tranquility!
Only by facing the problem can it be solved!
If everyone handles it so perfunctorily, wouldn’t other towns with similar situations repeat the same mistakes? Revealing the dark side indeed brings pain, but it’s the inevitable path to brightness!
Minamoto Tamako decided to investigate the charred corpse case by herself. She trotted to the scene and found the area, once the campfire gathering spot, had already been cleared up — even the evidence fabricated by Fushimi Roku was cleaned up.
After all, local residents still needed to live their regular lives!
After the campfire party ended, the space had to be used to dry fish, and children liked to run wild on the hillside. In less than a day, all traces were gone.
The criminal police officers went out of their way to seal off the Tsuchiya family’s home, but it was useless. Mr. Tsuchiya’s subordinates broke in and looted the place, and local drifters mimicked them, following in to tear the house apart, making constant clanging noises inside.
By evening, when Minamoto Tamako came to investigate, the Tsuchiya house had become a ghost house attraction. A fool sucking on a snot stood at the entrance, responsible for collecting ticket fees from tourists, claiming the site indeed had a death, ensuring an intense atmosphere.
"Hey, hey, hey! How can you go in without buying a ticket first?"
The fool blocked Minamoto Tamako from entering. She was so angry that her face turned bright red, loudly declaring this was a murder scene, not their pretend play area!
Tourists in line heard this statement and whispered to each other, thinking the ghost house staff was quite professional. Even when Minamoto Tamako pulled out a police badge, everyone just thought the prop was quite sophisticated, assuming it was part of the show.
The fool from the remote countryside simply didn’t recognize the police badge. He squinted his eyes, examined for a while, and then squeezed out a sentence:
"Even police have to buy tickets."
Helplessly, Minamoto Tamako had to shell out money.
She ventured through the ghost house, frightened out of her wits, yet couldn’t uncover anything about the case, focusing solely on the scary decorations.
After coming out, she felt both annoyed and self-critical, unwilling to accept it. She bought a ticket again, revisited the Tsuchiya family’s replica, and indeed was less scared this time, but still didn’t find anything.
It’s often said that timing is no match for geographical advantage, geographical advantage is no match for human harmony; right now, Minamoto Tamako had none, so defeat was only natural.
Yet she was stubborn, refusing to give up without getting to the bottom of it, pestering Fushimi Roku to clarify his deductions. The latter naturally made vague statements, diverting Minamoto Tamako’s investigation direction, and tricked her into asking the old abbot at Shuoshan Temple, hinting there might be surprises.
"Amitabha, Mr. Tsuchiya was entangled by karma, punished by Buddha, consigning him to self-combustion."
The old abbot was full of spooky talk; truly worthy of Japanese monks.
Minamoto Tamako listened and believed half of it; historically, there had been oddities of human spontaneous combustion. She had previously seen it in the Ten Thousand Whys, where one of the unsolved human mysteries was "the phenomenon of human spontaneous combustion"...
Heavenly punishment and such sounded like nonsense.
Minamoto Tamako lingered in Izu Town for two days, finally accepting reality with reluctance, provisionally concluding Mr. Tsuchiya was self-combusted to death, accidentally falling into the bonfire pile, ultimately leading to dispersal of the bonfire pile and unexpected incidents at the party site...
Of course, it’s just a tentative hypothesis.
Someday when she becomes a famous police chief, she would revisit the place with her professional team, thoroughly inspect it, and surely make the truth come to light!
Before Minamoto Tamako and others left, Mizutani Hiroshi interviewed Taira Sakurako, asking detailed questions. Because Mori Hajime’s camera malfunctioned for no reason, Mizutani Hiroshi had to manually record notes.
Minamoto Tamako desperately wanted to butt in, discussing extensively her police career; she always hoped to appear in the newspaper for an interview, but never succeeded, unexpectedly Taira Sakurako unlocked this achievement first, making her feel a sense of shared pride.
If she could be interviewed along with her, it would be even better.
On the way back, Minamoto Tamako kept mentioning this matter. Fushimi Roku heard so much his ears were calloused, truly unwilling to entertain her, simply leaned back in the taxi seat pretending to sleep.
"Not listening to me, refusing normal communication."
Deduct 0.5 points.
Minamoto Tamako pouted, pulled out her White Notebook, and jot down a grievance.
Due to Mr. Fu Jian’s poor performance, only sixty-one points remained, and with another deduction of 0.5 points, only 60.5 points were left.
She wasn’t purposely compromising, simply thought Mr. Fu Jian’s silence shouldn’t count as an error; it’s possible Mr. Fu Jian was merely tired, drifting to sleep with closed eyes?
Given his daily habit of sleeping ten hours, this behavior was normal, not worth a full point deduction, so she judiciously only deducted zero point five points.
Ah, indeed, from this perspective, Detective Tamako conducts affairs rather fairly!
They rode back to the Shizuoka Prefecture’s Atami resort. Only two short days remained of their seven-day holiday, minus the final return day essentially left only one day for leisure.
Minamoto Tamako finally tried the eel pie she had been craving. That thing is a pastry containing eel extract, with a delicate and mild taste, perfect for pairing with coffee, tea, or ice cream.
She thought the flavor was alright, not as spectacular as imagined but didn’t disappoint either, just ordinary.
The ice cream for pairing with the eel pie was unexpectedly delicious. Minamoto Tamako sat by the porch, slurping continuously, her rosy lips stained with ice cream drips.
"What’s your plan today?"
She turned around; Fushimi Roku and Taira Sakurako sat across the table, tasting bonito and sakura cake, both seasonal specialties.
"None." Taira Sakurako said concisely.
Though her small face remained expressionless, Minamoto Tamako could sense her mood was heavy, seemingly unhappy.
Minamoto Tamako initially planned to take Sakurako out to relax and change her mood, but suddenly she recalled how annoying her mom’s force-feeding was when she was sad. If she forcibly made Sakurako go out to have fun now, wouldn’t she be annoying like mom?
But if they don’t go out, the travel plan would be wasted...
She didn’t mind spending the day in the inn with Sakurako and wasn’t particularly eager to play outside, although pondering over the fact that this trip was initially intended to be alone time with Mr. Fu Jian to assess his behavior when alone—it turned out her time alone with Mr. Fu Jian seemed remarkably scarce.
"What about you?" Minamoto Tamako turned to Fushimi Roku, hoping he would stay to care for Sakurako too.
