Chapter 72: Chapter 72: This Is My Child with Winston

Winston Valentine heard the words and was silent for a moment, "Keep an eye on her."

Exiting the hospital, Vera Yves received a call from Hannah Hayes, "Vera, did you say something to Winston? Why hasn’t he signed the project papers yet? Your dad called him, but he didn’t pick up."

"He’s on a business trip."

"What kind of trip makes him not answer his phone?" Hannah Hayes complained, "He was the one who wanted to cooperate with the Yves Family initially. All the details were agreed upon, but now he won’t sign. Is he playing games with our family?"

"Mom, can we talk about the cooperation after he returns from his trip?"

"When will he be back?"

"I don’t know."

"You’re his wife, and you don’t even know when he’ll be back?" Hannah Hayes scolded her again.

Vera simply put the phone aside, waiting for her to tire herself out before responding. Hannah Hayes then hung up.

Linda Young sighed, "Will your mom agree to your divorce from Winston Valentine?"

Vera hadn’t thought about it, "We got married in such a muddle; for the divorce, I want to decide on my own."

That afternoon, Vera went to the old house to visit Old Mrs. Valentine.

Although she hadn’t seen Walter Lowell these days, given Winston Valentine’s concern for Cecilia Vaughn, he probably had someone watching her the whole time.

Her belly will surely grow bigger day by day; she can’t delay anymore. The earlier she divorces, the sooner she’ll be at ease.

Vera accompanied Old Mrs. Valentine in the backyard, having afternoon tea.

Old Mrs. Valentine began talking about Winston Valentine’s childhood, and Vera listened with little interest.

"His parents were busy when he was young and didn’t have much time for him, which made him somewhat aloof."

Old Mrs. Valentine sighed, "As he grew up, he didn’t get close to people, but he’s warm underneath. Vera, honestly, back then, I liked your personality. You’re warm and soft-hearted, and everyone loves you."

Vera smiled wryly, regrettably, she tried for over three years and still didn’t gain his affection.

"Grandma, I’m not as good as you think."

Old Mrs. Valentine looked at her with sympathy, "You’re just hung up over your grandfather’s matter."

Vera hesitated to ask, "If...one day I separate from Winston Valentine, can you still be my grandma?"

"Silly girl, you and Winston are doing well; why separate?"

Vera remained silent; their relationship has always been bad, and now it’s terrible.

Old Mrs. Valentine lowered her voice, "You’re a medicine student; tell granny honestly, you’ve been married for so long but still no kids. Is it Winston who has...some issues?"

Vera seemed a bit awkward and thought of the baby in her belly, "There’s no issue; we just temporarily don’t want children."

"Is it him who doesn’t want, or you don’t want?"

"Both... don’t want."

"You’re so pretty, and Winston’s genes aren’t bad either. I can hardly imagine how adorable your child would be." Old Mrs. Valentine leaned back in her chair and sighed, "Granny doesn’t have many years left, wonder if I’ll have a chance to hold a great-grandson or granddaughter."

Vera softly said, "Grandma, you’ll definitely live a long life."

After dinner at the old house, Vera returned to the villa; it was still cold and quiet inside.

Vera thought she might have gotten Winston Valentine to return soon by visiting the old house, but unexpectedly, he was away for almost a month.

Imperia was hit with another heavy snow. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

The roads were white; Vera had the driver take her to the hospital, then used Linda Young’s medical card to register. Before divorcing Winston Valentine, she had to be cautious.

Vera held the number slip, waiting on the bench outside, surrounded by women coming for pregnancy checks. Some were accompanied by husbands, some by parents.

If Winston Valentine knew about this child’s existence, what would his reaction be?

Probably disgust, after all, he thinks she doesn’t deserve to give birth to his child.

Vera gently touched her belly, her gaze softened considerably.

This is a tiny life connected by blood with her, having nothing to do with anyone else!

Soon, it was Vera’s turn, and she went into the examination room.

After finishing the check-up paperwork, Vera exited and immediately spotted the man who should be still abroad, standing out amidst the crowd.

Winston Valentine wore a deep blue coat, evidently having just arrived at the hospital, and was looking around.

Only then did Vera remember she’s at the maternity ward. Why would Winston be here? Did he find out? Is he here to confront her?

She wanted to hide but found nowhere to go temporarily.

"Winston." Cecilia Vaughn’s voice rang out.

Winston Valentine’s gaze turned; Cecilia Vaughn was dressed brightly, handing him a freshly printed examination slip, "The doctor said the baby is still too small for an ultrasound to show."

Vera’s blood seemed to freeze; Cecilia Vaughn was pregnant?

Winston Valentine’s gaze was emotionless as he looked at Cecilia Vaughn, "Come back for another check-up in a while then."

Cecilia Vaughn breathed a sigh of relief, her gaze tenderly on him, "Alright."

They seemed no different from many other young couples here for pregnancy checks, yet she was Winston Valentine’s legal wife.

"Excuse me, could you please move?"

A voice came from behind, bringing Vera back to her senses, mechanically stepping aside.

Winston Valentine and Cecilia Vaughn’s gazes were also drawn by the sound.

Cecilia Vaughn saw Vera and was somewhat surprised; why was Vera at the maternity ward too? Was she pregnant as well?

Cecilia Vaughn tensed up; she finally succeeded in having this child, it couldn’t end in failure!

Winston Valentine’s gaze fell on Vera’s small face, seeing her again after more than twenty days, she seemed even slimmer.

"Vera, what are you doing here?"

Upon hearing Cecilia Vaughn’s address, Vera clenched the paper in her hand.

She inconspicuously hid it behind her, looking at Cecilia Vaughn, "I should be the one asking you, why are you here?"

Cecilia Vaughn grasped Winston Valentine’s arm, smiling at Vera in a declaration of sovereignty, "You must have overheard; I’m pregnant, and this is my child with Winston."

Seeing her hand on Winston Valentine’s arm, Vera felt an instinctive nausea.

Winston Valentine did not move away, seeming that Cecilia Vaughn indeed carried his child.

"I haven’t divorced him yet," Vera said coldly, "is being the other woman something to be proud of?"

Cecilia Vaughn, however, declared righteously, "I truly love Winston; Vera, in this relationship, you’re the third party!"

He wasn’t on a business trip; probably for almost a month he had flown abroad to accompany Cecilia Vaughn.

And even managed to have a child together.

Didn’t he say he didn’t like children? Why could he accept Cecilia Vaughn’s pregnancy? Because Cecilia Vaughn is the woman he loves.

Winston Valentine strode over to Vera, his expression cold as he looked at her, "What are you doing here?"
