Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Beat You Into a Pig-Head

Vera Yves was just about to walk over when a group of people blocked her path.

"Oh, who is this?" Stella Valentine, dressed in sportswear, followed by four or five men and women of similar age, was apparently there to ski as well.

Seeing Vera Yves all alone, Stella Valentine stepped forward with a smile and said, "So it’s my third sister-in-law, skiing alone?"

Vera did not want to engage with her and turned to walk away.

Stella blocked her path and said to the group behind her, "You all must have heard about my third sister-in-law, right?"

Someone chimed in, "Of course, we’ve heard about Mrs. Valentine’s fame."

"After all, there are so many women in Imperia who want to marry President Valentine, but only one dared to use drugs to climb into his bed!"

The crowd burst into laughter.

Stella also chuckled, "What do you know? My third sister-in-law’s grandfather is a renowned Divine Doctor in Imperia, and he’s even managed to kill quite a few people. Making some low-class drugs is nothing. After all, he doesn’t even need to go to jail for killing people."

"Stella Valentine!" Vera’s gaze was icy as she looked at her, "Shut up!"

"If your grandfather didn’t kill people, why did The Yves Family clinic close down?" Stella retorted disdainfully, "Your grandfather is nothing but a charlatan! As they say, when the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked. That’s why you resort to such disgraceful tricks!"

Vera glared at her angrily.

"What are you staring at?" Stella, still holding a grudge over the slap Vera once gave her, raised her hand to retaliate.

"Slap!" A crisp smack landed on Stella’s face.

Stella clutched her face in disbelief, "Vera Yves, how dare you hit me!"

Vera replied coldly, "I told you, if you talk nonsense again, I’ll hit you again!"

"Hold her down for me!" Stella shouted in anger, "Vera Yves, see if I won’t smash your face today!"

Her companions moved forward.

Vera maintained her calm demeanor, coldly eyeing them, "This is a Valentine Family affair. I advise you not to get involved."

"Hold her down! My third brother never considered her as his wife anyway. Even if I hit her today, my third brother absolutely won’t pursue it!"

Seeing her friends hesitating, Stella expressed her dissatisfaction, "Are you still my friends or not?"

Only then did the group step forward and surround Vera. Outnumbered, Vera had no room to resist and soon, her arms were pinned down.

They were evidently well-practiced at such things.

Stella flexed her wrist and looked at Vera smugly, "Today, you won’t have such good luck. Miles Monroe won’t save you! Neither will my third brother!"

Vera just looked at Stella coldly.

Seeing Vera’s composed look, Stella was furious, "What are you so smug about? Today, I’ll beat you until you look like a pig’s head, and let’s see how you seduce men then!"

Stella raised her hand.

"Seventh Miss!"

Walter Lowell hurried over.

Stella’s expression darkened when she saw Walter Lowell, "Assistant Lowell, what are you doing here?"

Walter Lowell replied cheerfully, "President Valentine sent me to accompany the Madam for skiing. Seventh Miss, what’s going on here with your friends..." His gaze swept over the two people holding Vera down.

Stella was furious and suspicious, "Why on earth did my third brother send you to accompany her skiing? Could it be that you two are sneaking around behind his back..."

Walter Lowell broke into a cold sweat, "Seventh Miss, how can you think so sordidly?"

"What kind of attitude is that?"

Walter Lowell suppressed his temper and, seeing they were unwilling to let go, had no choice but to call Winston Valentine, then handed the phone to Stella.

After finishing the call, Stella looked sickened, threw a resentful glance at Vera, and left sheepishly with her gang.

Walter Lowell looked at Vera with concern, "Madam, are you alright?"

Vera shook her head, "Assistant Lowell, why are you here?"

Walter Lowell feigned calmness and said, "Business trip."

Walter Lowell on a business trip near a ski resort without Winston Valentine? Could it be that Winston sent Walter Lowell to watch her to prevent her from seeing Old Mrs. Valentine?

This suggests her chances of a successful divorce are high.

"Madam, are you feeling unwell anywhere? Do you need to go to the hospital for a check-up?" Assistant Lowell’s voice had a hint of anticipation, "I can help you schedule a doctor’s appointment."

Vera shook her head.

"You don’t look well."

Vera touched her cheek. She wasn’t wearing makeup and, combined with some morning sickness and poor appetite, her complexion had worsened.

"How long is Winston Valentine’s business trip going to last?"

"President Valentine didn’t say."

Vera went to the restaurant, had something simple to eat, and afterwards, her stomach started feeling uncomfortable again.

The three of them stayed at the resort for three days and two nights. Vera spent the entire time in the hotel, while Zoe Monroe, surprisingly considerate, did not insist on dragging Vera out skiing.

On the way back, Zoe Monroe leaned against Vera, "Vera, it’s not that I didn’t want to take you to have fun. You don’t know, but my cousin called on the first day and ordered me not to take you skiing, saying that you recently had a car accident and your body is still fragile."

With that, Zoe Monroe scrutinized Vera, "But you seem so energetic..."

Vera suddenly felt nauseous again, her face turning even paler.

After Vera felt better, Zoe glanced surreptitiously at Mark Yves in the driver’s seat and whispered, "I even thought you were intentionally trying to create opportunities for Mark and me to be alone."

Vera chuckled, "You two have known each other for almost twenty years. Do you still need ’alone time’ opportunities?"

"Knowing and understanding are different." Zoe said pointedly, "Don’t be fooled by Mark’s outward dignity; once you get to know him, you’ll find he’s even worse than a dog."

Vera: ...

"When you’ve known my cousin for so many years, you didn’t expect him to like someone like Jane Shea, did you?"

Zoe continued, "And you were in love with my cousin for so long, yet you never thought your husband would be a completely different type, right?"

Vera glanced at Zoe, "Who told you I was in love with him for a long time?"

"Does anyone need to tell me?" Zoe looked genuinely surprised, "You used to look at my cousin with shining eyes. Unless someone was blind, who wouldn’t notice?"

Zoe added, "My cousin was the blindest! Otherwise, how could he like Jane Shea and miss out on Vera!" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Vera gazed out the window, lost in thought. Why was Winston Valentine so certain? Was it based only on those rumors swirling in the social circle?

Back in Imperia, Vera got up early and went to the hospital with Linda Young.

After leaving the hospital previously, the doctor had advised her to come back for a check-up later. Miles had helped her communicate, so her pregnancy wasn’t recorded in the medical records.

Vera had Linda book a gynecology appointment for her, underwent an examination, and then asked the doctor for some anti-nausea Chinese medicine.

Seeing Vera leave the hospital, Walter Lowell went to the doctor to get a detailed understanding, and then called Winston Valentine to relay her whereabouts in great detail.

"President Valentine, the Madam didn’t use her real name to register, but she just had a routine pregnancy check-up."
