Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Terror of Gossip—Do You Understand?

Vera Yves let out a cold laugh, pushed his hand away, and turned the fire back on to cook the noodles.

Winston Valentine looked at her silhouette and spoke coldly, "I have something to attend to, can’t come over now. Consult a doctor if there are issues."

Vera halted her movements for a moment.

Samantha Warren suddenly burst into tears, "Winston, if you also don’t care about Cecilia, how will she survive in the future? Are you trying to push her to her death together with the old lady?"

Winston Valentine’s gaze darkened, "No one is forcing her."

He hung up the phone and shut the phone off immediately.

Vera dished the cooked noodles into a bowl and then carried them to the dining table.

Winston Valentine sat across from her, picked up his chopsticks, took a bite, and frowned slightly, "It’s bland."

Vera ate her noodles with an expressionless face, "If you don’t like it, cook for yourself."

Winston watched her leisurely eating, recalling that in the years they’ve been married, in all aspects of life, she was indeed a perfect Mrs. Valentine.

"Next time, I’ll cook for you."

Vera frowned, married for three years, when had this man ever cooked anything?

After finishing her meal, Vera returned to the bedroom. She thought Winston Valentine would leave, but to her surprise, he followed her into the bedroom.

Vera lay on the bed, glancing at the clock; it was past one in the morning.

Winston Valentine hugged her from behind, his arm resting on her waist, his hand fitting perfectly on her lower abdomen.

Vera was stunned, Winston couldn’t possibly know she was pregnant.

Vera hesitated for a moment, placing her hand on Winston’s hand, her gaze softened considerably, Baby, can you feel it? This is your daddy and mommy.

Winston involuntarily tightened his embrace on her, kissing the top of her head.

The next morning, when Vera woke up, there was nobody beside her.

When did he leave? After midnight when she fell asleep? Was he now at the hospital with Cecilia Vaughn?

Vera got up, went to the bathroom, washed up, and saw Winston Valentine coming out of the walk-in closet; he had already dressed, and upon seeing Vera, he naturally handed his tie to her.

He didn’t leave?

Vera regained herself and didn’t take the tie, her attitude cold, "Tie it yourself."

Winston threaded the tie through his collar, stepped toward her, and leaned over, "My arm is still injured, can’t tie it well with one hand."

In these three years, she had tied his tie countless times, when had this man ever stooped for her?

Vera had just washed her face, only applied skincare products, and wasn’t wearing makeup yet.

Her skin was naturally pale, without any blemishes, appearing more innocent and adorable without makeup.

Facing his intense gaze, Vera instinctively avoided it.

Winston took her hand, "Help me out."

Vera hesitated, reluctantly took the tie, exerting enough force to pull Winston closer.

Vera instinctively stepped back, Winston held her waist, taking the opportunity to kiss her soft lips, "I have a meeting this morning, I’ll accompany you in the evening."

Who needs his company?

Vera quickly tied the tie and then pushed him away.

Winston couldn’t help pinching her puffed-up cheeks before heading out the door.

Vera rubbed her cheeks, wondering what madness he had.

After changing clothes and applying light makeup, Vera went downstairs.

Winston Valentine had already left for the company, Vera had breakfast, and before heading out, saw Walter Lowell bringing a group of people into the living room.

Walter saw Vera and respectfully said, "Madam, these are gifts President Valentine prepared especially for you." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Vera frowned, showing no sign of surprise.

Walter coughed and quickly introduced her to the latest fashion items, shoes, bags, and jewelry.

Once Walter finished the introduction, Vera asked a servant to pour him a cup of water and smiled, "Assistant Lowell, you’ve worked hard, give the items to the maid to store in the closet."

Vera finished and was about to head out, Walter couldn’t help but say, "Madam, would you like to look at these gifts?"

What’s there to see?

Anyway, whoever becomes Mrs. Valentine can receive these gifts.

Walter followed Vera out the door, respectfully said, "Madam, President Valentine also reserved a new car for you..."

Vera paused, "Once the car arrives, please drive it to the villa."

Watching Vera leave in style, Walter was puzzled. Back in Corvid, they couldn’t get enough of each other, holding hands like Siamese twins, and now back for just a few days, did they have a fight again?

Vera drove out and received a call from Zoe Monroe on the road.

"Vera, did you have dinner with my cousin last night?"

Vera acknowledged.

"I asked him, and he said he was busy, but he went out to dine with you. I just knew in his heart, I’m not as important as you!"

"It was a dinner scheduled long ago, anyway." Vera’s voice was cool, "Zoe, my relationship with him isn’t as good as you think, don’t tell him about my matters anymore."

"You’ve been trailing my cousin since you were three! If your relationship isn’t good, then who do you have a good relationship with?"

"Men and women are different, and I’m already married." Vera gripped the steering wheel, her voice turned completely cold, "Rumors can be destructive, do you understand?"

Zoe was silent for a while, "Vera, I assure you, I won’t tell him about your matters anymore, don’t ignore me, please."

"I won’t."

Vera arrived at the clinic and continued organizing materials.

Feeling tired, she leaned back in the chair, looking at the landscape painting on the wall, the more she looked, the more irritated she felt, eventually she took a stool, removed the painting, rolled it up, and stuffed it into the drawer.

He said he’d give her everything a Mrs. Valentine deserved, yet his heart was all with Cecilia Vaughn.

Knowing she’s pregnant would lead to another storm; how was she going to keep this baby?

Divorce seemed like the only solution, but if she suggested it, he likely wouldn’t agree.

Unable to come up with an idea, Vera continued organizing materials.

Winston Valentine arrived at the clinic, as he entered the inner room, he saw Vera standing at the desk, the sunset’s glow filtering through the window, making her look soft and beautiful.

She was intently copying something, entirely unaware that he had come in.

Vera’s handwriting was beautiful, just like her.

"Need me to find you an assistant?"

Upon hearing Winston Valentine’s voice, Vera lifted her head, "No need."

Her grandfather’s materials were quite old, difficult to read, some characters she couldn’t even confirm, so she wasn’t comfortable entrusting them to someone else.

"You don’t like any of the gifts I sent you?"

Vera’s expression was cold, "I like them."

"If you like them, why didn’t you even take a look?"

"President Valentine’s taste is naturally flawless."

Seeing her distant demeanor, Winston Valentine knew she was still upset, decided to find a chair to sit.

Seeing the painting was gone, Winston frowned, "Why is the painting put away?"

Vera got up and opened the drawer, "The painting is here, the Yves Family clinic is too small for such an expensive item."

Winston Valentine walked up to her, took out the painting, his sight unintentionally swept across the picture frames inside.

Old wooden frames holding many slightly yellowing old photographs.

Winston Valentine’s gaze turned darker, "Whose photos are these?"
