Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 40: Can’t Give Her Away
Vera Yves painfully closed her eyes, his look of disgust almost suffocating her.
After Old Mrs. Valentine left, Cecilia Vaughn wiped the tears from her face, shedding her previously weak demeanor, "Mom, Winston will probably go to see Luke Shaw, you must visit Luke before Winston does!"
Samantha Warren thought of Luke, and was furious, "What for?"
"To discuss a deal with him!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
After parting unpleasantly with Winston Valentine, Vera Yves drove directly to the clinic. After she gave the invitation to Luke Shaw, he handed her a business card.
The name on the card was Leon Jules, who changed his name after Simon Warren left the clinic years ago, and went to the relatively remote city of Corvid to practice medicine.
If it was just knowing Simon Warren, Luke Shaw would never mention the old case of her grandfather. Could he know something more?
Vera Yves contacted Seth Quinn, and together they went to the detention center.
After Luke Shaw was arrested, The Shaw Family used all their connections, but still couldn’t get him out.
Luke had been severely beaten by Winston Valentine, and was thrown into the detention center merely after a simple bandage and bleeding control at the hospital.
At the moment, his head was bandaged, swollen like a pig’s head, and his arm was in a sling. Seeing Vera Yves, he straightened his back involuntarily and cleared his throat, "Mrs. Valentine, you aren’t here to kindly get me out, are you?"
Vera looked at him, her eyes betraying disgust, "Aside from Simon Warren’s business card, you must know something else."
"Of course I do." Luke Shaw looked at Vera Yves, speaking slowly: "If Mrs. Valentine wants to know, first get me out! I don’t want to sit in jail!"
With Winston Valentine wanting him in jail, who could possibly save him?
Vera knew she didn’t have that ability, besides, such a scumbag should remain behind bars forever!
"How do I know if what’s in your hand is worth saving you for?"
Luke Shaw looked at Vera Yves, confidently saying: "As long as you get me out, I guarantee to help you uncover the truth from back then."
After leaving the detention center, seeing Vera deep in thought, Seth Quinn cautiously said: "Vera, Luke Shaw is unreliable, according to my understanding, it was the Valentine Family that spread the word, so nobody can get him out."
Vera, of course, understood, "Thank you, Seth, for making the special trip."
Seth Quinn smiled, "You are Miles’s sister, so you are my sister, helping you is what I should do."
Vera gave a polite smile, "I’ll treat you to dinner another day."
"Miles took a case, he should come back for a bit in a while, let’s get together then."
The smile on Vera’s face faded a little, "Okay."
In the black sedan not far away.
Walter Lowell glanced at Winston Valentine through the rearview mirror, carefully asking: "President Valentine, do you want to go and greet Mrs. Valentine since she’s here as well?"
"No need."
Winston Valentine watched Vera Yves chatting and laughing with Seth Quinn, his dark eyes growing deeper, if she had nothing to do with this, why bring a lawyer to see Luke Shaw?
Why laugh so happily with another man? Could she have contacted Miles Monroe again?
After Seth Quinn and Vera Yves left, Walter Lowell hurriedly got out of the car to open the door for Winston Valentine.
Inside the detention center.
Seeing Winston Valentine, Luke Shaw acted like a mouse seeing a cat, "President Valentine, please, don’t hit me! I’ll tell you everything!"
Winston Valentine coldly asked, "Was it Vera Yves who gave you the invitation?"
Luke Shaw quickly nodded, "It indeed was Mrs. Valentine who gave it to me!"
"Why did she give you the invitation?" Winston Valentine cracked his knuckles, his eyes malicious, "If you dare to lie, I’ll make you suffer worse than death!"
Luke Shaw swallowed his saliva in fear, trembling as he spoke: "That day...that day I happened to meet Mrs. Valentine at the mall, she told me that Cecilia still had feelings for me and advised me not to give up lightly. She also said she would help me get ahold of an invitation."
Luke paused, "If it wasn’t for Mrs. Valentine giving me the invitation, I wouldn’t have dared to go to The Valentine Family’s banquet to find Miss Vaughn even if I had the courage of a bear or a leopard! At the banquet that day..."
Luke Shaw, scared, glanced at Winston Valentine, "Mrs. Valentine told me if I and Cecilia were to consummate an act, The Valentine Family would be forced to acknowledge it and had no choice but to marry Cecilia to me!"
With a "bang!", Luke Shaw was kicked to the ground.
"Ah!" Accompanied by a scream, his hand was fiercely stepped on, excruciating in pain.
Winston Valentine grabbed his collar, coldly questioning: "Did you promise her anything else?"
Luke Shaw shook his head, confused.
Winston Valentine’s face grew darker, he punched Luke Shaw in the face, leaving him in a pulp after a few blows.
Luke Shaw pleaded painfully, "Really, there’s nothing else, President Valentine, I’ve told you everything I know!"
Winston Valentine stopped, stood up, and Walter Lowell quickly handed him a handkerchief. Winston Valentine wiped the blood from his hands, "What did she say when she came to you today?"
Luke Shaw answered with difficulty, "Mrs. Valentine told me she would find a way to get me out and instructed me not to expose her."
Vera Yves!
Winston Valentine tossed aside the handkerchief and strode out of the room.
Walter Lowell quickly followed behind, respectfully saying: "President Valentine, the information on the girl beside Mr. Valentine has been clarified; her name is Rae Rhodes, born in Corvid, she’s twenty-seven this year, officially hired as a caregiver by Mr. Valentine, however, Mr. Valentine has already conducted a paternity test on her; the results are yet to be investigated."
Winston Valentine paused, "Does the keepsake match up too?"
"Our people haven’t seen the keepsake on Miss Rhodes."
Winston Valentine’s eyes darkened, "Send someone to her hometown to verify."
"Understood."
After leaving the detention center, Vera Yves searched online for information related to Simon Warren. Rather than pinning hopes on Luke Shaw, she decided to first meet Simon Warren in person.
She dialed the contact number on the business card, but it wasn’t him, it was his assistant. Vera Yves paid a thousand yuan to secure an appointment two days later.
From Imperia to Corvid, there were no direct flights, requiring her to depart a day earlier. The next day, she went to the Hillside Villa, arranged for Cleo Sutton’s follow-up treatments.
Rae Rhodes seemed nervous upon hearing her plan to go to Corvid. She brought Vera a cup of hot tea, asking discreetly: "Sister Vera, why are you suddenly going to Corvid?"
Vera Yves took the tea, reluctant to discuss it further, "To visit a Chinese doctor."
"Are you going alone?"
Vera shook her head, "With a friend."
She invited Linda Young to accompany her, being unfamiliar with the place, she dared not take risks alone.
Vera made another visit to the clinic, returning home to the villa in the evening.
The villa was cold and empty, Winston Valentine hadn’t returned.
After bathing, Vera packed some luggage, and then received a call from Linda Young.
"Vera, someone leaked news about Cecilia Vaughn online, even her recent kidnapping was revealed!" Linda’s voice carried confusion, "The report intentionally blurred some details, possibly leading inferences against Cecilia!"
Vera clenched her phone, "When did this happen?"
"About half an hour ago." Linda lowered her voice, "Although it wasn’t explicitly stated, it vaguely hinted at The Yves Family, Vera, would that dog Winston Valentine think you’re behind this?"
Vera didn’t have the chance to answer when the wardrobe door suddenly swung open.
