Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 143: I Won’t Wait for You
Jane Shea’s words were like a curse, lingering in Vera Yves’s mind.
"He just wants to find a woman willing to marry him to show off to me."
"Believe it or not, even at your wedding, if I beckon, he’ll come back to me."
Thinking of the way Jane Shay looked at her during the engagement banquet, Vera Yves’s heart slowly turned cold.
Was everything just a lie?
Whether in the past or now, the person he holds most dear in his heart is still not her.
The audience below began to murmur among themselves.
Miles Monroe grasped Vera Yves’s hand, "Vera, let’s postpone the wedding, wait for me, alright?"
Why postpone it?
Vera Yves instinctively shook her head, "Are you leaving me now?"
Miles Monroe drew closer to her, looking at her reddened eyes, and lowered his voice, apologetically, "Vera, I’m sorry, I can’t continue the wedding now, Jane Shea, she..."
Vera Yves withdrew her hand, holding back her tears, "Enough! It’s her again, no matter what has happened to her, it’s not a reason for you to leave now! You promised me... you promised to always put me first."
The murmuring from the audience grew louder.
Hannah Hayes stood up in anger, "Miles Monroe, what do you mean? Are you planning to call off the wedding?"
Miles Monroe wanted to leave with her, but Vera Yves avoided his hand.
"Vera, wait for me, I will definitely come back."
Miles Monroe hardened his resolve and walked off the ceremonial stage.
Vera Yves watched his figure, clenching her palm tightly, her voice unexpectedly calm, "Miles Monroe, I won’t wait for you, if you leave today, don’t ever come looking for me again."
Miles Monroe’s steps halted for a moment, he turned, looking at Vera Yves standing still.
The happiness once thought to be within reach seemed to slip away in an instant.
Old Master Monroe clutched his chest in anger, "Miles Monroe, if you dare walk out that door today, then from now on I’ll have no grandson!"
The assistant beside him glanced at the time on his watch, anxiously saying, "Counselor Monroe, we’re running out of time..."
Miles Monroe gave Vera Yves one more deep look and walked out.
Vera Yves watched his figure disappear, and a voice inside her told her, it’s fine, it’s not the first time she’s been abandoned, wasn’t this expected?
Winston Valentine was right, she’s just a coward, thinking that hiding in the shell of marriage would keep that other woman from stealing him away.
Vera Yves took the microphone from the embarrassed host, even smiling a little.
"I’m truly sorry, today’s wedding is canceled, I, Vera Yves, from today onwards, have nothing to do with Miles Monroe. Thank you all for coming from afar. The banquet will proceed as planned, at my expense, I hope you enjoy your meal."
Vera Yves returned the microphone to the host.
The murmuring from the audience grew louder, their gazes upon Vera Yves filled with sympathy, disdain, and schadenfreude.
Hannah Hayes and Harry Yves’s faces turned ashen with anger, Mason Monroe and Penelope Langley stepped forward.
"Miles isn’t an irresponsible child, when he comes back, he’ll surely give The Yves Family an explanation..."
"What kind of explanation?" Harry Yves had lost his patience, "What could be so important that he would abandon his bride?"
Penelope Langley also apologized, "Miles was indeed too willful, when he returns, I’ll definitely have him come and apologize personally!"
Hannah Hayes finally couldn’t hold back and cursed, "Apologize for what? There’s no need for your pretense here! This is the good son raised by your Monroe Family! It was him who wanted the wedding, and now he’s causing trouble for our Vera Yves! Do you think The Yves Family is easy to bully? Let me tell you, from now on our Yves Family will have nothing to do with your Monroe Family ever again!" 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Vera Yves walked down from the ceremonial stage, as if nothing happening below concerned her.
Linda Young wanted to support her, but Vera Yves shook her head, "I’m fine."
Zoe Monroe looked at her apologetically, her voice tinged with tears, "Vera, I’ll go get him back for you..."
Vera Yves’s voice was cold, "I want to be alone."
Vera Yves picked up her gown and walked out of the ceremonial hall gracefully, with her back straight.
She took a taxi back to the hotel, under the surprised gazes of the guests, Vera Yves returned to her room, changed clothes, packed her belongings, and took a flight back to Imperia at dusk.
Hannah Hayes called, and Vera Yves told her she had returned to her apartment, hanging up as Hannah Hayes cursed Miles Monroe.
Several news articles related to Jane Shea popped up on her phone, but Vera Yves didn’t open them, simply turned off her phone.
Back at the apartment, it felt as if patches of it still held his presence.
Vera Yves grabbed her car keys and went downstairs.
She drove aimlessly, not knowing where to go or where she could go, just like back when she found out he’d eloped abroad with Jane Shea.
Her heart ached to the point she could barely breathe, even more so than back then.
So being given something then losing it is this painful, she thought.
Vera Yves laughed at herself, had she ever really possessed it? Probably not.
In this love story, she was destined to be a supporting character, witnessing their love.
She made the same mistake twice, how foolish.
Vera Yves parked her car in front of a bar, walked inside, and sat in a booth, drinking one glass after another, yet she couldn’t suppress the bitterness in her heart.
Not sure how many glasses she’d had, Vera Yves’s stomach started churning, strange how she hadn’t eaten all day but still felt like vomiting?
Her stomach started aching faintly; she was somewhat relieved, after all, a stomachache was easier than a heartache.
Vera Yves called over a waiter and settled the bill, then stood up, her steps a bit unsteady as she walked out. At the door, she watched the slowly falling snow, recalling their first kiss, tears sliding down her cheek.
She staggered forward a few steps, and when she was about to fall, someone caught her.
Vera Yves looked up at the man before her, not sure if it was a dream or reality, but it seemed to no longer matter, and she collapsed into his arms.
Winston Valentine wiped away her tears, then carried her to the car. Vera Yves frowned in pain.
The car stopped under an apartment building, and Winston Valentine carried her upstairs.
Pressing her finger to open the door, he carried her into the living room, helped her remove her coat, and Vera Yves, already nauseous, finally couldn’t help but throw up.
Winston Valentine couldn’t escape in time, and his coat, cashmere sweater, and pants all suffered for it.
After vomiting, Vera Yves shrunk into the sofa like a cat.
Winston Valentine held back his temper, dabbed some of the mess away with tissues, which wasn’t very effective, so he directly went to the bathroom to shower.
After washing, intending to find a bathrobe, he saw men’s pajamas laid aside.
Vera Yves was dizzy from drinking, someone helped her up, they gently ordered her to open her mouth.
Vera obediently rinsed her mouth, drank water, and seeing the familiar pajamas, Vera was momentarily stunned.
Then she wrapped her arms around the man’s neck, suddenly kissed him.
