Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 118: Cook Me These Dishes Slowly from Now On
Vera Yves welcomed her in and poured her a glass of water.
Rae Rhodes held the cup, hesitating, "Sister Vera, I heard from Mr. Valentine that you’re helping my grandma with her illness. Can you take me to meet the Valentine Family so I can see her?"
Vera shook her head, "Rae, you saw last time, the Valentines don’t welcome you."
"But I want to see grandma." Rae’s eyes turned red, "Last time we met, she liked me very much, and now she’s ill and I can’t visit her..."
"Old Mrs. Valentine’s condition is under control. Though she can’t fully recover, with gradual rest, she’ll get better and better."
Rae’s eyes dimmed a bit.
The doorbell rang again. Vera checked the time and opened the door directly. Miles Monroe came with shopping bags, smiling at her, "I’m here to help you cook dinner."
The two walked inside together. Seeing Miles, Rae’s eyes lit up, "Counselor Monroe, long time no see."
Miles didn’t really remember her, and Rae smiled, "Last time Sister Vera helped me buy clothes, we met."
Miles gave her a polite smile and tapped Vera’s nose, "Tonight I’ll cook braised beef brisket for you."
"Do you need any help?"
"No need, you two chat."
Miles went into the kitchen.
Nervously, Rae said, "Sister Vera, can I stay over tonight? I don’t want to return to Hillside Villa now."
"Why?"
"I just want to clear my head."
"You can stay, but you should call your mom so she won’t worry."
Rae nodded, thinking about the closeness between Vera and Miles, "Sister Vera, are you dating Counselor Monroe?"
"Yes."
Rae was somewhat surprised, unable to understand how Vera could be so fortunate to find such an outstanding man after her divorce.
"You sit here for a while." Vera got up and walked into the kitchen.
Seeing the two busy in the kitchen, Rae wandered around the apartment for a bit; the place was spacious, and everything from the decor to the furniture was high-end.
Seems like the rumors were true, Vera got quite a bit after divorcing Winston Valentine!
If she hadn’t accidentally overheard, she’d still be in the dark. Tristan Valentine is looking for an illegitimate daughter, who’s not even with Cleo Sutton, but a child Cleo had with some random man!
Her identity has long been exposed. Tristan Valentine’s just playing along, having her act with Cleo. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
There’s no benefit for her with Tristan Valentine, thought she could get some while performing for Old Mrs. Valentine, but it didn’t work out.
Maybe she could start with Vera...
The phone ringing interrupted her thoughts. Rae saw it was Vera’s phone ringing, she hesitated for a moment then answered it.
"Miss Yves, I’ve been waiting for you for over ten minutes, how much longer will you take?"
Rae hesitated, "Vera’s not here, I’ll take the phone to her..."
"Forget it, if you don’t want a blind date, just say so! What kind of lousy excuse is that! Really think anyone’s interested in a divorced woman!" The man angrily hung up.
Miles put the ingredients into the pot, the aroma wafted up, and Vera gave him a thumbs up in appreciation.
Miles smiled, "Once I’m done with this busy period, whatever you want, I’ll cook for you."
Vera leaned against the counter, listing one by one, "I want braised shrimp, sweet and sour pork, and three delicacies..."
"You’re still such a sweet tooth, aren’t you?"
"Don’t interrupt me! Vera deliberately feigned seriousness, "Everything I say, you must remember and cook for me later."
"Alright." Miles pinched her cheek, "Little greedy cat."
Vera immediately shattered her facade, slapping away his hand, suddenly recalling that another man had once promised to cook for her next time, but there never was a next time.
She shook her head, discarding the unwanted emotions, and continued to list dishes.
Miles teased, "I should’ve been a chef instead of a lawyer back then!"
Vera called him smoothly, "Chef Monroe, it smells so good, I’m practically drooling!"
The meal was served, Vera invited Rae over to eat, and Rae seemed somewhat reserved.
The three hadn’t had more than a few bites when Miles’ phone rang. He stepped aside to answer it and soon returned, "Vera, my law firm has some urgent matters, I have to go now; I’ll come find you tomorrow."
Vera stood up, "I’ll see you out."
Suddenly, Rae stood too, "Sister Vera, on second thought, I’m afraid my mom might worry, I’d better go back to the villa."
"Do you need me to take you?"
Rae shook her head, "Just have Counselor Monroe drop me at the nearest metro station."
Vera nodded.
They left the apartment together.
Miles got into the driver’s seat while Rae sat in the front passenger seat, "Counselor Monroe, do you really like Vera?"
Miles furrowed his brows, "Of course."
"Do you know she’s secretly going on blind dates?"
Miles’ face darkened slightly, "What are you trying to say?"
"She’s not being genuine with you! She’s two-timing." Rae slowly placed her hand on his arm.
Almost instinctively, Miles brushed her hand away.
"If she can play the field, you can too!" Rae had investigated his background, knowing his worth, "I can be with you behind her back; she’s just a divorcee, I’ve never been with a man..."
"Get out!"
Rae looked at his cold expression and didn’t move.
Miles got out of the car and opened the passenger door, "Get out!"
Rae had no choice but to get out, watching the luxury car speed away, she clenched her hand tightly!
Miles returned to the law firm, his assistant approached him, "Counselor Monroe, wasn’t it about President Grant’s case..."
Miles stopped in his tracks, "Where’s the person?"
"In your office."
Miles walked into his office to find Jane Shea sitting in his chair, smiling at him, "This office is much smaller than the one you had in M-Country."
Miles’s face darkened, "Jane, I’ve said I won’t help you with your case to terminate the contract. I can recommend lawyers specializing in that field."
"I don’t trust anyone else." Jane looked at him tenderly, "Miles, only you would genuinely help me."
"I’ve told you, it’s completely over between us."
"What’s ’completely over’? You knew my career was on the rise back then. Why did you choose then to propose? You knew I couldn’t possibly agree!"
"I knew you wouldn’t agree, but I still did. Why do you think that is?"
Jane stood up and walked towards him, "You’re with Vera just to spite me, isn’t that right?"
"I never treat my emotions as a joke."
Looking at his cold eyes, Jane clenched her hand tightly, "Alright, then help me with the contract termination case. If you do, I’ll promise never to bother you again! Consider it... your breakup compensation for me!"
