Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 116: Going Pure Romance
Vera Yves waited for a while, seeing no activity on Zoe Monroe’s phone, she restarted the car.
Zoe was terribly drunk, so Vera had no choice but to take her back to her own apartment.
She helped her take off her shoes and coat, tidied up, threw her onto the bed, and Vera was sweating from exhaustion. She calmed herself for a moment, took her phone, and went into the bathroom.
After taking a shower, her phone remained silent; Miles Monroe hadn’t called her via video.
Vera couldn’t help thinking about what Nathan Norton had said, and also about the two questions Jane Shea had asked her.
Lying on the bed, Vera closed her eyes, telling herself not to overthink.
Suddenly, Zoe turned over, hugged her, snuggled into her arms, and took a deep breath, "You smell so good."
Vera helplessly pushed her away, but Zoe turned back over, hugging her tightly and wouldn’t let go, continuously saying how good and soft she smelled.
If she wasn’t worried about her getting into trouble from being drunk in the middle of the night, she would have really wanted to toss her into the guest room.
After this repeated a few times, Vera simply let her be.
Turning off the bedside lamp, Vera thought of Winston Valentine. Helping him by calling an ambulance was already more than enough kindness; after all, the moment they divorced, she had decided not to deal with him ever again in her life.
Early the next morning, Zoe was still sound asleep from her hangover. Vera made her breakfast, cooked some soup, and left her a note to take it to Miles Monroe at the hospital.
By the time Vera reached the Valentine Household, it was nearly nine o’clock.
Stella Valentine’s face was more swollen than last night, looking somewhat scary. Jean Taylor sat beside her, looking at her with an expression of deep concern.
Seeing Vera, Jean stood up, "Vera, what do you mean by inciting the Monroe Family to hit June?"
Vera smiled, "I didn’t incite anyone. Of course, if I could, I’d prefer to do it myself."
"Vera, don’t go too far!"
Vera calmly replied, "Fourth Madam, please watch your tone. I was invited here by the Valentine Family as a doctor. I have no obligation to endure your lack of manners."
"Doctor? You think you’re qualified!" Stella covered her face, slurring her words, "Your grandfather was a quack! A charlatan! What skills could you have?"
Vera looked at her indifferently, "Stella Valentine, do you know why you’re so stupid yet I still want you as my assistant?"
"You’re deliberately torturing and retaliating against me!"
Vera gave a cold laugh, "Don’t think too highly of yourself. I just want you to open your eyes wide and see how the so-called quack, the charlatan in your eyes, treats and saves people."
Vera walked upstairs, "Follow me."
Jean expressed dissatisfaction, "June’s face is like this."
"But her hands aren’t broken, are they?"
"My third brother is already in the hospital! Do you think anyone else in the Valentine Family will protect you?"
Vera paused her steps.
Titus Valentine happened to come down to meet Vera, seeing Stella still downstairs not moving, he said disapprovingly, "Hurry up and follow, don’t delay Vera in treating the old lady."
Old Mrs. Valentine had phlegm drained once again in the morning, causing Stella to feel nauseous and retch in the bathroom for a long while.
After clearing the phlegm, Old Mrs. Valentine’s complexion improved significantly.
Just then, Zoe Monroe’s call came through, and Vera stepped out to answer it.
"Vera, I’ve already delivered your soup, and made sure my cousin had a bowl."
Vera acknowledged it. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Do you want to speak with my cousin?"
"I’m still busy here; I’ll call him when I’m done."
"Alright then."
After Vera hung up, Zoe looked at the man seated on the hospital bed, noting the bruise on the corner of his mouth, "How do you plan on explaining this to Vera?"
Without waiting for Miles Monroe to reply, Zoe said with frustration, "You’re not fully recovered and still went to fight, reopening your wounds, Miles Monroe, really impressive!"
Miles frowned, giving her a glance.
Zoe immediately backed down a bit, cleared her throat, "I was just imitating my aunt’s tone."
"I’m going to sleep now."
Zoe pouted, "Regretting it now, huh?"
Miles closed his eyes, and Zoe cautiously asked, "Who exactly did you go fighting with?"
"Zoey, be quiet for a while."
Zoe made a few disgruntled noises, then sat on the sofa to play a game, coincidentally accepting an invitation from someone nearby for a ranked match.
Vera stayed at the Valentine Household until the afternoon, when Linda Young invited her out for shopping. Vera, who also wanted to pick up a few things from the supermarket, joined her at the mall.
"Is it true that you and Miles Monroe have rekindled your old romance?"
"What rekindling, we’re at most...starting anew?"
"For a man willing to take a knife for you, what hurdle can’t be overcome?"
Vera involuntarily thought of Winston Valentine and wondered what was on his mind when he lured Simon Warren away for her. Was he thinking about the responsibilities and obligations as a husband?
However, it no longer mattered.
At the lingerie store, Vera recalled Miles Monroe’s words. She chose a set of men’s pajamas, and the shop assistant enthusiastically recommended a women’s version, claiming it to be the hottest seller among couples’ items this year, with many celebrities wearing it.
In the end, Vera bought the couple’s set.
Linda raised an eyebrow at her, "Your relationship is moving fast."
Vera’s cheeks flushed, "It’s not what you think."
Linda hooked an arm around her shoulder amicably, "Then what is it? Have you two kissed yet?"
Vera shook her head.
"At your age, aren’t you too old for this kind of pure love?"
Vera was puzzled, "We’ve only been together a few days, isn’t that how all relationships start?"
"Not really." Linda chuckled, "Zeke and I met at a photography exhibition, you know, with some people, it feels like you’ve known them forever at first glance, and that night we were passionately burning for love."
She paused, then added, "But it turns out, such impulsive romances are just a lustful fantasy; genuine, spiritually fulfilling love is more steady and enduring."
"Of course, if you can find both spiritual and physical satisfaction, that’s divine quality. When you encounter that, hold onto it tightly."
Linda asked curiously, "You’ve had such a long crush on Miles Monroe, haven’t you ever fantasized about him?"
Vera hesitated and nodded, "Of course I have."
There was a time she deeply yearned to travel every corner of the world with him, to kiss him at dawn and dusk, to hold hands under the sunset.
But those dreams were abruptly halted and buried deep in the recesses of her heart.
"Now that you have the chance to actualize them, why not give it a go," Linda advised earnestly, "if you find out after marriage he’s lacking, then..."
Vera finally couldn’t hold back and covered Linda’s mouth. Her fantasies back then were mostly about kissing; concerning those kinds of things between men and women...
Vera inevitably thought of Winston Valentine again.
They made another stop at the supermarket, then parted ways at the mall entrance, and Vera drove off to the hospital.
She took one of the shopping bags upstairs.
Miles was on the phone with someone when Vera placed the bag on the side table, taking out the items one by one.
When she saw a certain small box, Vera paused for a moment.
Miles ended his call just then and walked to her side, "What did you buy?"
Vera instinctively hid the item behind her back, "Nothing!"
