Chapter 71 - I've got news to share with you
Kang-woo walked through his front door and glanced at the big space of his living room. It was empty. Such a big empty space made him feel lonely.
He sighed, rubbing his palm over his head as he made his way towards the stairs.
The moment Chin-hwa was in his house was quite brief, but in that brief moment, he could feel so much warmth.
"I should stop thinking about it." He muttered to himself. "Hwa isn't mine."
He made his way towards the stairs and went straight to his room, taking off his shoes, his watch, and everything on him.
The doctor's words kept replaying in his head.
If his rut came in a month, and the only way to get rid of it and not end up running mad was to have sex with an Omega, would he really be able to do it?
No, it wasn't a matter of if since he wouldn't be in his right senses and look for one by all means, it was a matter of who would he do it with?
He was Yun-tae's boyfriend, and it was only right that he was the one he called during his rut, but he did not hold such feelings for him to begin with and would dread making the mistake of marking him.
After all, the reason he was even with Yun-tae was because it was what Chin-hwa wanted, and he noticed something in the way Yun-tae looked at Chin-hwa.
He could be wrong... He looked at himself in the reflection of his bathroom mirror... But he did not want to take chances.
Whereas there might've been a different path to take and not actually get together with Yun-tae, he feared that the growing affection in Yun-tae's eyes was far beyond that of simple friendship.
'Like I said, I could be wrong.' He thought, brushing his fingers through his hair. 'But I can't afford to leave him be to recognize his feelings,, and they strengthen into something else. An Omega falling for another Omega...' he shook his head. 'I really could be wrong.'
To prevent that from happening, whether mistaken or not, he decided to give Yun-tae what he wanted in hopes that his desire for him deepened. As it deepened, he would have no chance to fall for Chin-hwa.
'What I want right now is as little competition as possible. If Hwa has no one falling for him and stealing his attention, I can eventually win his heart. I hope.'
But his hopes were dashed when the next day in school, he found Chin-hwa with Ji-hoo. Now, he might've just assumed it was typical Ji-hoo trying to get close to Chin-hwa like he did the previous day, but then he watched him kiss the top of Chin-hwa's head and slide his arms around his shoulder.
Now, that was new. He expected Chin-hwa to feel uncomfortable and maybe push him away since that was too much physical contact to engage with a guy who was 'just' his friend, but... Chin-hwa simply shied away, his face flushing for some reason.
"What's going on?" Kang-woo asked, approaching, and they all turned to find him walking hand in hand with Yun-tae.
Chin-hwa avoided his gaze, suddenly admiring the desk in front of them.
"Oh, you're here. I've got news to share with you." Ji-hoo said.
"Oh, news? What news?" Yun-tae asked, looking excited as it seemed like it was going to be good news.
"Chin-hwa and I are officially a couple." Ji-hoo answered with a bright and cheerful smile, but the hearts of Kang-woo and Yun-tae dropped into the pits of their stomach.
For Kang-woo, it was understandable that he was shocked and heartbroken at this news. In fact, he didn't want to believe it.
But for Yun-tae, it was hard to say why his heart had dropped.

He freed his interlocked fingers from Kang-woo's and pressed his hand on his chest, looking away in confusion.
'What was that?' he wondered. 'I... I should be happy for them. So, why... Why does this news make me uncomfortable?'
He looked up at them and barely smiled.
'I don't understand.'
Yun-tae always thought Chin-hwa's happiness would bring him immense joy, but knowing he had gotten together with someone, there was no joy, just the discomfort in his heart and maybe a little disbelief.
"Con-congratulations." He said, barely holding his words together. "When did that happen? You two were both single until yesterday, right? When did these feelings develop?"
"Yeah, I'd like to know the same thing," Dong-cha said. "I'm happy for you, little Hwa, but if you had eyes on Ji-hoo all along, why didn't you say anything. We could've gotten you two together right away."
"Ah, actually, that's..." Chin-hwa paused his lips. What was he going to say? 'I got confessed to and accepted because my one-sided love will never love me back? I'll only be making things worse, and they'll end up asking more questions.'
Chin-hwa looked up at Ji-hoo. He was the one who made the confession, so he had to think of a way to get them out of this mess.
"Well, to tell you the truth," Ji-hoo spoke up. "I'm the one who had eyes on Chin-hwa."
"Owhhh," the group of friends dragged the 'oh' as though they had expected something like that to happen.
It only goes to say that Ji-hoo's friendly attitude towards Chin-hwa was a result of his feelings.
"Well, if you put it that way," Seoung-bo said. "I guess we can believe it. But how did you get Chin-hwa to accept?" She turned to Chin-hwa. "Did you also have a crush on him?"
"Not exactly," Chin-hwa answered, slowly dragging down his beanie to hide his face. "I just... Wanted to give him a chance. Who knows? I might fall for him soon."
"You might fall for him?" Kang-woo, who had been silent, asked, and they all turned towards him.
He had this dark look in his eyes. He looked angry but was trying his best to act composed.
But even a dent on that perfect face, a slight flinch or crease, could tell them that he was not himself.
"Hwa, did he threaten you to accept his feelings because you look rather uncomfortable?" Kang-woo asked, and Chin-hwa's eyebrows furrowed.
What was he saying all of a sudden?
