Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Escape

It hand moved so fast it turned into a blur, even to his heightened perception. This thing was faster than he had expected.

He knew he couldn’t run anymore so he came out and shot two arrows killing the nearest imps.

The imp warrior stood up and grabbed it sword. He drew his bow and pointed it at it. The imp warrior flapped it bat wings and flew at him.

He released the arrow, the imp deflected it with it sword and reached him before he could draw another.

It was too fast, even with his perception and hawk eyes he still found it hard to follow it movements.

He rolled forward dodging the sword, then started running. He pulled out the axe and hanged the bow around his shoulder.

It caught up to him in a split second, he turned around and It was already above him, It arm turned into a red blur.

He hastily raised his axe to block, sparks flew when the sword met the axe. A tremendous force was transmitted to his arms.

He flew back like a ragdoll and crashed on the wall. He felt his head buzz but he had no time to recollect himself.

It was already upon him before he even stood up. He rolled on the ground dodging the sword.

A long sword gash appeared on the wall, he tried to cut it legs but it easily evaded his axe.

That gave him an opening to retreat and stand up. It attacked again, he raised his axe, when it sword touched the axe he tilted it deflecting the force.

The difference in their strength was too huge even though he deflected most of the force he still felt like he was hit by a bull. He took two steps to the side then blocked again using the same method.

He gritted his teeth and tried to use mana to empower to his arms then realised an issue. He was too hasty in attacking this thing, he thought he could use mana to breach the gap in strength.

It was pressuring him making it hard to focus and he didn’t train long enough to be able to use mana actively without high concentration.

’ Shit shit shit.’ his arms were getting sore from the force of it attacks. Fortunately he had overestimated it combat experience.

It was not very different from the others, it just kept swinging it sword around. However it was fast.

Incredibly faster and stronger than he was, even his eyes had a hard time tracking it movements.

His body could barely keep up. Sparks flew everytime they clashed forcing him to retreat over and over again.

The other remaining imps didn’t even dare get close to them. Akaris deflected it sword then kicked it in the stomach.

He felt like he had kicked a brick wall, he was pushed back and lost his balance. It laughed in a grating voice and copied him.

It sent a kick to his stomach, it leg was too fast for him to either dodge or block. The kick landed.

He threw up all the food he ate alongside with blood. His body flew through the air for over a dozen metres.

He rolled on the floor and came to a stop when he hit the wall at the end of the passage, his head was buzzing but he forced himself to stand up.

It was smiling at him and started walking towards him slowly. He looked left and right, there was a corner and another passage.

At the end of this one were stairs that he knew led to the roof. Akaris was not a fool, he knew he had overestimated his ability.

He thought that just because he can see it movements he would be able to fight it but he was wrong.

His body cannot keep up with his perception and it certainly cannot keep up with that creature.

His legs and arms were burning from the massive strain he put them under just to block and dodge it attacks.

He took a deep breath, this was his chance, it was intelligent and intelligent monsters liked to play with their prey.

Which was why it was smiling and walking towards him slowly instead of lunging like it lesser brethren.

It was driving in the fear but in doing so it was giving him the chance to concentrate. He closed his eyes and concentrated.

His high spirit made it easier for him to sense his mana then he directed it to his legs. Veins in his legs bulged.

He opened his eyes and sprinted, his body moved so fast he reached the end of the passage in a second.

Then ran up the stairs, he head it angry roar followed by it brethren, he knew it was coming and ran even faster.

He reached the roof and closed the door, on the floor were two metal poles. He used them to block the door then looked around for anything.

Left and right of the building were others, they were separated by a short distance of three metres.

Even in his battered state he can make that jump, especially since his legs were currently empowered by mana.

The rain fell around him so heavily the raindrops were starting to hurt. It was even louder outside.

He couldn’t hear them but he was certain they were coming. The sky was dark and covered by deep black clouds.

Spiraling portals like an abyss could be seen all over the city, monsters came out of them and spilled into the city.

Some of those portals were high in the air, strangely those monsters that fell off them didn’t die or suffer any wounds when they fell as if they were protected by some invisible force.

He recognised some of them like goblins, kobolds and gnolls. However he also noticed it were mostly those weaker ones.

He didn’t see dragons or phoenix or the like but there were other terrifying monsters like the giant scorpion he was looking at.

The scorpion was on the roof of a building on the opposite street watching him. It screamed loudly and started climbing down the building.

" Shit." He cursed, he saw other monsters that can fly. He immediately started running and jumped to the roof of the other building.

Just as he landed the door was kicked open behind him and the imp warrior came out. He hid behind the bulkhead of the other building.

The rain made visibility low, hid any sounds he made and washed away his scent.
