Timeless Hunter: Blood Of Old-Chapter 24: Quiver Of The Endless Forest
At this point, Akaris can only see one second into the future. However it was not like he saw a single moment exactly one second into the future.
He can see the entire second, everything that happens in between. After using future sight his eyes glistened like polished gold.
He saw the kobold attack him, it sword drawing arcs through the air as it cut towards his neck.
He responded by deflecting, at the same time tried to kick the kobold, he almost lost his footing.
He jumped two steps back, the second ended and future sight was cut off. Using it once had taken a huge chunk of his mana.
He now realised how disorienting using future sight, he can see two things at once, the illusory future and the present.
Not to mention all the information of the next second is transmitted to him all at once, fortunately his will was high and it was only a second.
However he needed to learn how to fight accordingly. The kobold attacked again, it body blurred towards him like a red shadow.
He used future sight and saw how the exchange would go, the kobold stomped it foot and swung for his neck.
He had seen this, he would try to deflect the sword but it was a faint, it would then cut his chest.
While the wound wasn’t severe, he preferred not to take it. He poured more mana into his body to make himself faster.
Instead of deflecting the sword he crouched catching the kobold off guard but it was a seasoned warrior.
He used future sight again and saw it kick him in the chest sending him flying a dozen meters away.
He twisted his body a split second before it attack. The kick came as he had seen, the wind howled as the foot passed by him.
Akaris stabbed the thigh causing the kobold to roar with rage and pain. He rolled on the ground.
Stood up and slightly shifted his body dodging it sword swung, it followed up with another move but he casually dodged that as well.
His sword drew a blue arc and drew blood on it neck, unfortunately it scales were tough so he didn’t manage to kill it with a single strike.
During their battle Akaris noticed an issue with future sight, the future wouldn’t always remain the same.
The first move would definitely be the same but the Kobold was fast enough to attack multiple times in one second.
Once Akaris took a different action from the one he saw in his future then the kobold would adjust accordingly.
Like when he crouched to dodge instead of deflecting, it didn’t continue with it attack to attack empty air.
Instead it changed it moves to attack him, realising this he slowly changed his own fighting style.
Or rather his use of future sight, future sight was a strick ability. Once activated it would take a certain amount of mana to show him the future.
That did not change but using his connection to mana and his high will he was able to control and temporarily cut off the mana flowing into the skill.
By doing this, instead of seeing a whole second into the future he was able to cut that second into 10 fragments.
So even if the events happening within that second changed, it wouldn’t matter, he would still see it.
That is if the changes happened within 0.1 seconds of course. The kobold could only attack about 13 to 16 times in one second.
So all of it moves were within his grasp, clang. Their swords clashed then he leaned back slightly.
He had seen this, it sword went passed by his face, before it could adjust he cut it arm, a few scales fell off.
The fight was becoming one sided, ever since he started using future sight it hadn’t landed a single attack on him.
He could tell it was running out of mana and getting desperate, that made it more sloppy, skilled as it was, that gave him an advantage.
While fighting he saw the shield Kobold running at him, it steps leaving deep footprints on the ground.
It planned to ram it shield on him, Akaris twisted his body dodging a sword stab of the other kobold.
He grabbed it arm and pulled it just as the shield Kobold was about to hit him, this caught both of them by surprise.
The big guy hit it comrade sending it flying over a dozen metres away like it was hit by a speeding train.
It stood frozen for a split second which was not an opportunity Akaris was going to miss. He stabbed it neck with his katana.
It grabbed it bleeding neck and swung it shield at him but missed, he ignored it and ran to grab his bow on the ground.
The sword kobold stood up and stumbled, that hit caused significant damage. He could see it scales had cracked.
He pulled the bow and a second later and arrow formed, the kobold dodged and raised it sword to block.
It actions had already been seen by him using future sight. He cancelled future sight, it was draining too much mana.
However not before shooting the arrow, it slightly grazed the sword and pierced through the Kobold’s head.
This was by design, he had aimed just above the sword, the kobold would’ve actually managed to deflect the arrow.
Unfortunately to dodge or even block an arrow moving at the speed of sound, not only did it have to strain it body it had to use aim dodging.
Meaning it had to predict where the arrow would be based on his aim rather than react to the arrow itself.
That was it downfall because him slightly changing his aim at the last moment meant it couldn’t adjust.
( You have killed level 9 kobold Knight, experience gained. Player has reached maximum level, experience dissipated.)
He pulled his bow and fired an arrow at the archer. It pierced right through it head, unlike the swordman it couldn’t even react.
It was too exhausted from the blood loss, after killing it he finished off the one with a shield.
He approached the dead archer and picked up it quiver. It still had 13 arrows.
( Quiver of the endless forest. F+ grade artefact.)
’ Well, that just seemed convenient.’
