Time Travel: Pampered by the Aloof Prince-Chapter 438: How Dare I Deceive the Prince
Chapter 438: Chapter 438: How Dare I Deceive the Prince
After leaving the palace, Qi Yu did not immediately return to the hostel but strolled around the city for a while.
The faint morning light illuminated her fair skin, making her stand out among the veiled Tulan women.
But at that moment, there weren’t many people on the streets, and she didn’t take to heart the occasional glances directed at her; instead, she pondered how to prevent the event set to happen in three days.
At this critical juncture, Ning Yue suddenly revealed her identity to her, what exactly was her intention?
Was it merely to disclose the truth to her, so she would leave this place of strife?
She felt her mind was in disarray; the clues that had gradually become clearer were now a tangled mess again. The more she knew, the more complicated things seemed to become.
After making a round, upon returning to the hostel, Qi Yu suddenly realized something was terribly wrong.
She had gone out for an entire night without telling Li Mingjue, and if she were caught, it would spell disaster.
Qi Yu rubbed her forehead and prayed inwardly, hoping that the calming incense would last a bit longer.
She stood at the doorway, carefully pushing the door open, peeking her head in first. Seeing the person on the bed still lying asleep, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
She tiptoed into the room and had just closed the door when a voice laced with a hint of coldness sounded from behind her, "Where did you run off to last night?"
Her heart nearly stopped at the sound, and she patted her chest. Turning around, she saw Li Mingjue sitting up halfway, looking at her coolly with peach blossom eyes.
"You’re awake..." Qi Yu gave an awkward smile and made small talk.
Li Mingjue’s gaze remained fixed on her without faltering, silent as if waiting to see how long she could spin her lies.
It wasn’t long before Qi Yu caved, raising her hands in surrender, "I’ll tell you, alright?"
Li Mingjue’s expression remained unchanged. He patted the edge of the bed and said in a cold voice, "Come here."
Qi Yu immediately cowered, with her neck tucked in and dragging her heavy steps, she slowly made her way over.
She took off her outer robe, casually hanging it aside, sat on the edge of the bed, obediently looking at Li Mingjue, and held up four fingers, declaring righteously, "I swear, I really didn’t go anywhere, it was just..."
But before she could finish her sentence, her momentum faltered.
If her own Prince knew where she had been last night and whom she met, she would surely be in for a lecture.
Li Mingjue glanced at her, noticing her eyes full of guilt, his brows furrowed as he asked, "It was just what?"
Qi Yu blinked, quickly concocting a way to bluff her way through.
She shivered, then wrapped her arms around herself, looking pitifully at Li Mingjue, "It’s so cold."
Li Mingjue’s eyelid twitched, fully aware she was pretending to be pathetic, but still concerned about her thinly clad figure, he ordered sternly, "Get up here."
Upon hearing this, a hint of joy flitted across Qi Yu’s eyes. She hurriedly climbed onto the bed and burrowed into the blankets.
She was enveloped in warmth and only then did she realize how cold she really was.
Li Mingjue had thought she was faking, but when she snuggled up to him, the bone-chilling coldness wasn’t feigned. He frowned, his expression growing colder.
Qi Yu felt the chill emanating from him and shuddered violently, stretching a hand out from the blankets, she tugged at his sleeve, softened her tone, and cooed, "Prince, don’t be mad, I promise I didn’t go anywhere dangerous!"
Li Mingjue glanced down at her, clearly skeptical of her words, "Is that so?"
Qi Yu nodded vigorously, "Of course, how could I dare to deceive the Prince!"
She then pulled harder, bringing him under the blankets, rested her chin on his shoulder, and rubbed against it, her voice a bit languid, "Last night, the Saintess came to see me."
"Saintess?" Hearing this name, Li Mingjue frowned again.
Qi Yu didn’t hide anything from him and recounted every detail of what had happened the previous night, including how she had followed to the Holy Maiden Temple and how she had uncovered the Saintess’s identity.
By the end, her eyelids had begun to droop and her voice to slur, a clear sign she was on the verge of sleep.
Li Mingjue watched her carefree demeanor, half helpless and half angry, he tapped her nose and said, "You really are fearless."
Qi Yu had already closed her eyes but was not yet fully asleep. Hearing his words, she muttered softly, "That’s right, I’m very brave."
Li Mingjue had no way to deal with her. He couldn’t hit her, and if he scolded her she’d have ten replies for every word he said—she was truly like an ancestor.
Resigned, he covered the little ancestor with a blanket and reached out to check the temperature on her forehead. Seeing that she didn’t have a fever, he finally relaxed.
When Qi Yu woke up again, it was already noon.
Li Mingjue had left early in the morning. She went next door to find Shi Zhou and happened to meet Mo Qingshan, who was taking Shi Zhou’s pulse.
"Master, didn’t you go to fetch some wine today?" Qi Yu, rarely seeing Mo Qingshan, teased as soon as she spoke.
Mo Qingshan glared at her irritably, "Do you think I’m some kind of drunkard, living in the wine cellar day and night?"
Qi Yu shrugged, "Well, you never know."
She walked over to inspect Shi Zhou’s wound and, seeing it was nearly healed, she was relieved.
After finishing the pulse diagnosis, Mo Qingshan stroked his beard, "There’s nothing serious anymore, but she still needs to rest and recuperate."
Bored from being cooped up in her room all day to recover, Shi Zhou was fatigued.
Hearing Mo Qingshan’s words, she nodded listlessly and said, "Thank you, senior Mo."
Seeing that she was in low spirits, Qi Yu said, "Last night, Yingruo came looking for me."
Upon hearing this, both Shi Zhou and Mo Qingshan looked up at her.
Qi Yu sat down at the tea table, poured herself a cup of tea, and then began to slowly recount the events of the previous night.
Compared to Li Mingjue, their reactions were much more shocked.
After all, she and Li Mingjue had seen the real Ning Yue, so it was not surprising to them that Ning Yue would be capable of such actions.
But for Shi Zhou and Mo Qingshan, it was different. Both were somewhat disbelieving upon learning that Yingruo was Ning Yue.
"But wasn’t Ning Yue supposed to have died a hundred years ago?" Shi Zhou found it hard to imagine that someone who had died a century ago would appear here.
Even Mo Qingshan, no stranger to the world’s wonders, was stunned. He had only read about some Tulan secret techniques in books, which were mainly methods for cursing people with Poisonous Insects, and had never heard of anyone being resurrected from the dead.
Qi Yu, seeing the undisguised astonishment on their faces, thought to herself that if they knew where she came from, they would likely be even more astounded.
She sipped her tea and continued, "Ning Yue is the only one who knows all the Tulan Secret Techniques. Perhaps there really is some ancient and unknown method hidden among them. However, going against the natural order is eventually not the right way. I think she must have paid some price to use this technique that brings the dead back to life."
Mo Qingshan nodded in agreement, "Indeed, nothing in this world is perfect. If one desires to gain something, one must inevitably lose something in return."
After listening to him, Qi Yu fell into deep thought.
Mo Qingshan’s words also awakened her; last night, she had not thought to explore how much of what Ning Yue said was true and how much was false.
But one thing she could be sure of was that Ning Yue hadn’t told her the whole truth.
Or perhaps, she had only told half the truth.
