This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!-Chapter 123 - Increase the Stakes
Chapter 123 -123 Increase the Stakes
Chen Ke made a call and briefly explained to Pihom the car theft process, and told him where the three cars were currently stored.
Pihom still hesitated but with the die cast, the cars were already stolen, and it was definitely impossible to exchange them back.
Having no choice, Pihom had to go with the flow, telling Chen Ke to leave there quickly, and arranged for someone to drive the cars to the postal worker’s modification shop.
Those three cars were easily recognizable as Boss Tang’s, so they had to be processed.
Chen Ke never knew the postal worker had his own modification shop; after all, during his time there, he had only been to the safe house and, including Pihom himself, had only met four members…
At one point, Chen Ke thought the postal worker’s organization was a bunch of country bumpkins… if they hadn’t decided to rob Si’s consortium, he wouldn’t have wasted time with them.
However, after several interactions, he had to admit, he had developed some feelings for them, as after coming to this world, not many had spoken to Chen Ke nicely; he mostly dealt with monsters or enemy assassins who drew their guns at him.
If nothing unexpected happened, he would probably become an active city robber with the postal workers in the future…
That wouldn’t be too bad… After removing the countdown to his life, could he really return to a normal life? After all these experiences, Chen Ke had already gotten into this rhythm, and he couldn’t guarantee what kind of person he would become in the future.
He had thought about, once everything settled, finding a way to leave the United Federation and visit the Fei Huang Republic, as that seemed more like his homeland, but thinking about this now was still premature.
He was still a freak who could only survive for 20 hours, an assassin with a brain full of killing techniques.
From 12 PM to 6 PM, Chen Ke practiced HEMA foundational swordsmanship at Golden Arthur, Diana wasn’t there today, and Brig sparred with him for a bit, praising Chen Ke’s significant progress, which had been made in just two days.
Yet only Chen Ke felt it wasn’t enough, without real combat, mastering a killing technique was just wishful thinking, after all, as a coach, Brig had no killing intent.
Brig was only sparring with Chen Ke technically, which was meaningless for Chen Ke who had already gained an entry-level in Meyer Swordsmanship.
This was the first skill he needed to actively acquire and improve; one could imagine how many people Lin Mo had to kill to master those three assassination skills…
During the small talk, Chen Ke also asked about the times Diana would usually come because that girl was truly fierce, sparring with her felt like facing an exceptional swordsmanship master.
Chen Ke had no doubt that even if he got crushed by her, she was holding back. In terms of strength, speed, and experience, if it really came to a fight to the death, Diana could probably take Chen Ke down with no more than three strikes.
Of course, if it were hand-to-hand combat or with guns, Chen Ke was confident he could take her down.
Brig seemed to understand something but didn’t say it out loud, and Chen Ke seemed to catch on to Brig’s thoughts and shook his head helplessly.
“She usually comes three times a week, on Thursday and Friday afternoons, and stays longer on Saturdays. Your luck isn’t great, it’s Sunday today, but honestly, buddy, she’s tough to handle, many have tried,” Brig said.
Chen Ke smiled and didn’t explain. Instead, he continued with his calculations, and for some reason, Chen Ke felt that Diana’s identity must be extraordinary; only those who have truly fought for their lives can sense that difference.
That look in the eye, when facing something inhuman, of suppressing the fear within and mustering the courage to strike hard, Chen Ke had seen it on Diana’s face.
At 6:30 PM, Chen Ke left Golden Arthur and headed to Lester’s Zio suit shop.
Lester was very pleased with Chen Ke’s action last night, although Chen Ke didn’t actually do much, but he didn’t reveal what happened.
The phenomenon on top of the building, however, was very puzzling to Chen Ke.
That eerie full moon was definitely not normal; Chen Ke once had the illusion of entering another world while on the rooftop.
And then there was the sudden appearance and then disappearance of murderous intent… What was ready to hunt him down and why did it give up on the target?
What did the target say? Why were there intestines-like substances in his vomit?
And when Chen Ke went downstairs, he didn’t notice any signs of the overtime employees leaving, but once he reached the first floor, the entire building seemed deserted…
Lester made coffee, brought it to Chen Ke, and slid a magnetic card across the table to him.
“What is this?” Chen Ke picked up the magnetic card and asked.
“This is an access card for Holy Oak High-End Villas Residence. Wealthy people generally don’t use keys,” Lester said.
“It must be hard to come by a counterfeit of this sort of thing, right?” Chen Ke examined the card, which looked no different from a standard credit card, with a blue stripe running through it, inscribed with “Milli Laisi High-end Residential Service Center.”
“This is not a counterfeit; it’s the real deal,” Lester said with a mysterious smile.
“It seems I just have to open the door, go in and kill him, and then come out. Sounds pretty simple. How did you get this card?” Chen Ke joked.
“I have my ways, Chen Ke. Sometimes, it’s better not to ask too many questions,” Lester sipped his coffee.
“If this card is one-of-a-kind, he must be panicking by now… Aren’t you afraid of alerting the quarry?” Chen Ke queried.

“No, I am not, because that guy isn’t using the main entrance to get into the house anymore either…” Lester seemed as if he was about to say something he shouldn’t and cut himself off mid-sentence.
“Lester… I need more precise information to understand the target’s situation, which would allow for better execution of the assassination mission. Being so secretive isn’t wise,” Chen Ke rapped his fingers on the table.
Lester certainly wouldn’t tell him what exactly was going on with those three targets, but at the very least, Chen Ke needed to know what potential dangers he was facing.
What if last night on the rooftop, the killing intent hadn’t faded? Then, Chen Ke would have had to face an unknown enemy unprepared. Assassins hate unknowns.
“You’re right, Chen Ke. I shouldn’t expose you to unknown dangers. It’s not in the spirit of our agreement… But I can’t say too much,” Lester said, taking a sip of coffee, as if mulling over his words.
“Let’s hear it, Lester. Tell me what you think you can,” Chen Ke said.
“Alright, Chen Ke. Before I divulge some information, I want to assure you that these three tasks are definitely within your abilities. No matter the potential danger, as long as you’re professional, you won’t come into contact with certain things,” Lester said, as if he was hiding something.
“Come into contact with what?” Chen Ke pressed.
“Transcendent,” Lester said bluntly.
Chen Ke paused, looking at Lester with a mix of complex emotions in his gaze.
I’ve seen it all, and you want to warn me about this?
“Their interaction is with the Transcendent realm; they have had or are in touch with it, but they themselves are not Transcendent. So, Chen Ke, with your skill, as long as you don’t let curiosity get the better of you, there will be no trouble,” Lester cautiously said, afraid that his wording might spook Chen Ke.
“I don’t know the details. But I assure you, their deaths are something that those truly involved with the Transcendent would welcome, with no Transcendent power seeking revenge. You just need to professionally ensure their demise, and also, don’t mess with anything they possessed,” Lester said.
“Even so, this assassination task is beyond the scope previously discussed. You understand what I mean, Lester,” Chen Ke said.
Lester brought his hands together in a steeple, not arguing. He knew Chen Ke was looking to increase the payment.
“No problem, Chen Ke, no problem… We should all adhere to professional ethics, shouldn’t we? Your request is quite reasonable,” Lester nodded.
After pondering for a while, as if calculating in his mind, Lester said,
“The agreed compensation was 100,000 union coins plus a 20% bonus. Now, I’m willing to offer 150,000 union coins and a 30% bonus… and since you’ve already taken out one, I’ll pay you 50,000 union coins upfront. What do you think?”
150,000, plus a 30% bonus. Although it’s unclear how much the bonus would be, 150,000 union coins was no small sum.
To show his sincerity, Lester took out his phone and immediately transferred 50,000 union coins into Chen Ke’s offshore account.
Chen Ke’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He smiled, pocketing the access card.
“Deal.”
