This Game Is Too Realistic-Chapter 317.2: The Knife That Descended From The Skies
Chapter 317.2: The Knife That Descended From The Skies
Ratatatat!
Gunfire echoed loudly on the streets filled with ruins and debris, shattering the tranquillity of the city.
Having successfully taken out the watch post, the players did not linger. While reinforcements had yet to arrive, they continued toward their next target on the map.
At the same time, a W-2 ground-attack aircraft with a shark-head painted on it silently approached the sky over West Continent City.
Hanging underneath the aircraft were not bombs but a Switchblade that folded inward.
After confirming the course and distance through the VM, Mosquito, wearing a pilot's hat and goggles, skillfully released the safety of the bomb launcher and shouted into the communication channel, "Hey, hey, this is Mosquito. Please respond!"
A crackling voice came through the communication channel. "... Burning Corps here, we hear you. I'm Old White... We have arrived at the target location and are ready to take action."
"Roger that!"
As Mosquito responded, he pressed the button on the launcher. With a mischievous chuckle, he continued, "... The drone is online, control transfer complete. Have fun, and good luck!"
The Switchblade drone detached from the bomb launcher and glided silently toward the designated area.
At the same time, in a dark alley in the southern district of West Continent City.
Gale, sitting on the ground wearing headphones, looked up at Old White standing at the entrance of the alley. "I'm connected."
The drone's camera was synchronised with his VM.
Old White nodded, made an okay gesture, and ended the communication with Mosquito.
At that moment, a plump, dull grey, fat rat with a meter long body suddenly appeared at the other end of the alley with several smaller ones.
Old White crouched to look at the Ratman.
Halting his footsteps, Make Me stood up, using his unique sharp and hoarse voice to excitedly report what he had just discovered. "I've checked!"
"The tank is still parked in the northeast corner of the underground garage, and its position hasn't changed! There are also 2 modified anti-aircraft trucks next to it, probably driven in during the daytime!"
Old White gave him a thumbs-up. "Thanks, buddy."
Make Me grinned. "Don't mention it! There are quite a few people inside. It'll be quite a show!"

After getting up from the ground, Old White swiftly loaded his rifle and signalled to Ample Time and Gale in the alley. "Get ready!"
"Roger!" Gale succinctly replied, tapping twice on his earphones. He then closed his eyes slowly, synchronising his consciousness with the drone gliding in the sky, unfolding its folded rotors.
The control circuit of the Switchblade drone was the same model as the Y-1 Firefly, even their operating software was the same.
It could be operated through the VM touch screen or through neural connection devices, with immersive connectivity aided by communication base stations.
After a final confirmation of the information on his VM, Old White turned off the screen and led the way out of the alley.
[Mission 1: Destroy the ammunition depot in the TV Station in the southern city district.]
[Mission 2: Use the Switchblade experimental self-destructing drone to destroy one Conqueror 10 Tank and photograph its wreckage.]
Located in the southern district of West Continent City, the former TV station consisted of three buildings and a two-floor underground garage. It housed 200 to 300 marauders and 20 to 40 artisans serving the Fang Clan.
This place was the Fang Clan's camp outside the 4th New District, controlled by a Company Leader named Howling Wind.
Based on the intelligence provided by Make Me, the defences of this camp were most relaxed at midnight, especially from 12:00 to 12:30.
The guards who were about to change shifts hardly paid attention to their patrols.
The ammunition depot of this camp was located in the basement of the building on the west side of the television station, and the most eastern underground garage housed a Conqueror 10 Tank that was undergoing maintenance.
Both missions were conveniently located.
As they set off, the operation officially began.
Old White, accompanied by Ample Time, moved quickly along the dark streets toward the direction of the television station.
Lurking on the rooftop, Night Ten used the LD 47J semi-automatic with a makeshift silencer to quickly take out two guards stationed at the main gate of the television station, as well as two inside the wooden watchtower, providing cover for Old White and Ample Time as the two approached the surrounding wall of the television station.
They scaled the wall.
Avoiding the campfire inside the campsite, the two of them moved rapidly along the wall. However, just as they were about to turn the corner, leisurely footsteps could be heard approaching ahead from the right.
Old White quickly raised his hand, signalling Ample Time to stop. Then, he made gestures with two fingers, forming a fist with his left hand.
Ample Time immediately understood. Taking an arrow from his quiver, he positioned it on the bowstring and silently moved behind a wooden crate to the left.
Old White released the rifle and drew his dagger. He approached the corner cautiously, gesturing to Ample Time behind the cover.
"OK?"
"OK."
Hidden in the shadows, Ample Time held his breath. While drawing the bowstring, he started counting in his mind. "Bullet time..."
"Activate!"
As soon as the 2 marauders appeared from around the corner, Ample Time released the bowstring. At the same time, Old White acted in the shadows.
Swoosh!
The sound of the arrow cutting through the air disappeared in a flash, and the marauder walking on the left was pierced through the throat by the arrow. His eyes widened as he gasped and gargled, blood flowing profusely as he fell backward.
The one on the right did not even have time to react. In the vibrating sound of the bowstring, two large hands extended from the shadow to cover his mouth and slit his throat.
The right hand released the dagger, Old White quickly caught the first marauder, who was falling backward, then slowly placed both bodies against the wall in a corner quietly.
After showing Ample Time an ‘okay’ hand gesture, Old White gripped his rifle again, signalling to continue forward.
The 2 silently sneaked into the interior of the camp. The guard standing above the building had already been taken out by Night Ten from a distance. As if haunted by ghosts, the atmosphere in the campsite was eerily quiet.
The entire camp was filled with a bloody smell, and on the wooden poles and windows, one could see hanging or nailed corpses. Some of them were even decomposing and emitting a foul stench.
Most of these people were local survivors.
After the marauders captured the survivors, they executed them, drained their blood, and used it to draw graffiti or strange symbols on the walls to curse and intimidate the survivors hiding underground and the guerrillas of the resistance force.
However, the method was evidently not effective.
The bloody repression only ignited the determination of the local survivors. Even if they had to use gunpowder, bows and spears, they would fight those man-eating beasts to their death.
With Night Ten covering them, the 2 cooperated tacitly and consecutively eliminated 5 patrolling guards. Then, they quietly made their way to the west side of the television station.
The ammunition depot was located on the lower floor of the west-side building. The iron door was tightly locked, with the only key kept in the guardroom drawer.
Unfortunately, Make Me's size was a bit too large. Otherwise, he could have sneaked into the guardroom and stolen the key while the guard was dozing off.
Approaching cautiously, Old White slipped into the guardroom. With a skillful silent step and backstab, he silenced the marauder who was sleeping soundly and then took the key from the drawer.
They managed to unlock the door and enter.
Shining their flashlights around the ammunition depot, they both widened their eyes simultaneously.
"Damn..."
"These bandits are living a pretty comfortable life."
Rows of Ripper rifles were leaning against the walls like firewood, and a rough estimate revealed there were over 1,000 of them. Based on the retail price of 100 silver coins per rifle in the NPC shop, the rifles alone were worth 100,000 silver coins.
Not only that, many rooms were filled with boxes and bundles of ammunition, each bullet emitting an orange-yellow or silver-white glow under the flashlight's beam.
Among them were purchased copper-shell bullets, self-made steel-shell bullets, and even reloaded bullets processed by slaves and craftsmen.
In less than 500 square metres of space, from the corridor to the compartments, the space was filled with an astounding array of weaponry and ammunition!
Old White roughly calculated that the weapons, ammunition, and other military supplies here were worth at least several hundred thousands.
"... Damn, they even have 100mm cannon shells." Standing at the end of the corridor, Ample Time looked at the orange-yellow shells on the ammunition rack and could not help but lick his lips.
This is amazing!
"These are probably for the Conqueror 10 Tank. They're slightly shorter than the ones we seized in Bluestone County," Old White remarked.
The Conqueror 10 had various types of turrets, and the corresponding gun calibres also differed. However, the majority of them were mainly equipped with a 100mm gun.
Ample Time looked disappointed. "What a pity. It would have been great if we could steal them."
"Haha, forget it. You think this game has an inventory function?" Old White took out a package of mixed explosives from his backpack and handed half to Ample Time. "Let's get back to work quickly and end this swiftly."
All the ammunition in the depot had been photographed. Targeted destruction of specific targets would reward them more than destroying vague targets.
After placing the explosives under the ammunition crates, Old White and Ample Time set up delayed fuses and immediately retreated from the depot. They left before the marauder patrol team changed shifts, retracing their steps back to the television station.
After Gale confirmed that their teammates had left and that the target approaching the garage had been dealt with, the drone he controlled started to descend, zooming toward the entrance of the underground garage and following the pre-planned route straight to the tank parked in the northeast corner.
The buzzing of the hexacopter quickly caught the attention of the marauders, but by the time the drone had entered the garage, it was impossible to intercept it.
The low-flying drone quickly went under the tank's chassis, and the 15 kilogram warhead exploded instantly. The mixed explosives containing magnesium-aluminium powder had a power equivalent to 2 155mm shells, especially in a confined environment like the underground garage.
The violent shockwave not only instantly scrapped the tank weighing dozens of tons but also obliterated 2 nearby anti-aircraft trucks and the patrol team rushing for reinforcement. A quarter of the garage collapsed entirely, leaving a large crater in the ground.
The marauders in the entire camp were in chaos. Scrambling out of their beds, they rushed out of the main building without putting on their clothes.
A group of people rushed toward the ammunition depot, but before they reached the guardhouse, a splendid fireball lit up before their eyes. This round of explosion was several times more powerful than the previous one, and the entire west wing of the building seemed to have been blown away.
