These Lunatics are Obsessed With Me-Chapter 187
…What is this? I was confused by the system window that had suddenly appeared. And with it saying “Hello” out of the blue, could this be some kind of chat window? I glanced at the name displayed on the system window.
「The Capricious One.」
“…?”
The Capricious One? What kind of name is that? Is it some sort of nickname?
I tilted my head and stared at the system window glowing with purple light. Then I spoke.
“Who are you?”
「The Capricious One: …」
I asked quietly, but the system window, glowing faintly, gave no reply. Did I also need to type my question into the terminal? No sooner had the thought occurred than words appeared on the purple system window.
「The Capricious One: Who do you think it is?」
“…”
What is with this guy? I let out a faint, incredulous laugh.
It seemed that even without typing into the terminal, my words were automatically transmitted to the other side. I wasn’t sure why this was happening all of a sudden, but it was a relief that communication had become easier. After pretending to think for a moment and stroking my chin, I asked casually.
“A constellation?”
「The Capricious One: …」
“An Asgardian god?”
「The Capricious One: …」
The system window gave no response. It seemed determined to stay silent unless I identified it correctly. A bit troublesome. Should I just ignore it? Still, it would be a waste to miss out on any useful information. The Capricious One. In Norse mythology, which god was considered the most capricious?
“…”
No matter how I thought about it, only one name came to mind. Still, speaking it aloud felt a little uncomfortable. If I guessed wrong, the chat might simply stop—after all, this was The Capricious One. I sighed, frowned, and asked again.
“…God Loki?”
Then the system window glowed even more brightly than before.
「The Capricious One: Correct—!! (*≧ㅁ≦*)」
“Whoa…”
What’s with that silly emoji? Even if I was right about who he was, his nickname remained the same. Was he just ignoring it—or something else? Or perhaps it’s part of his persona? If not that either…
“Do all Constellations have to use nicknames?”
「The Capricious One: No, not necessarily (ʘ‿ʘ)」
「The Capricious One: Some just use their real names because they don’t want to use a nickname. For example, ‘Simply Ignorant God,’ ‘Simply Ignorant That Guy,’ or ‘Simply Ignorant Big Guy’ (¯ ― ¯٥)」
"Ah…”
I think I know who he’s referring to. It seems Thor doesn’t use a nickname. So maybe it’s just a matter of god's preference. Some use their real names out of convenience, while others use nicknames to appear impressive… But come to think of it, the gods only talk to their own guild members anyway, so using nicknames felt a bit odd.
「The Capricious One: You thought I was being dramatic, huh?」
“Uh, that…”
「The Capricious One: It’s fine. I’m lenient with my Einherjar.」
“Your… Einherjar?”
It felt a bit strange—speaking as if I were something that belonged to him. I narrowed my eyes and asked.
“The god who spoke to me in the dungeon… could it be…?”
「The Capricious One: Yup, it’s me—☆」
“…”
Damn. I’d been caught up in Loki’s schemes from the very beginning. Could it be that Loki had been watching me ever since I possessed Han Yi-jin’s body? Or had he been keeping an eye on Han Yi-jin from the start?
But if I were truly the warrior chosen by Loki, he wouldn’t have let Han Yi-jin die after being treated as such an insignificant villain in the original story. That meant Loki had been watching me, not Han Yi-jin. Could it be that Loki intended for me to possess Han Yi-jin and gain an S-rank auxiliary skill through the system? With that thought, I spoke up.
“Did you mean for me to possess this body too?”
「The Capricious One: Do you think I have that kind of power?」
“Yes.”
「The Capricious One: Thanks~♡(*>ω<)」
“…”
Even though I knew it was just the system window, I got so annoyed that I almost punched it. Somehow, I could vaguely understand the frustration the other gods must feel.
「The Capricious One: But even I can’t do something like that~n.」
“…”
‘~n’? What’s with that weird, otaku-ish way of talking? Anyway, he seemed like someone, no, a god whose very nature was to get under people’s skin.
「The Capricious One: Is that the only thing you’re curious about, my Einherjar?」
“Ha, could you please stop calling me ‘your Einherjar’?”
「The Capricious One: Ah, don’t tell me you’re planning to dump me after all the help I’ve given you? That’s so mean, Ho-su-ya~ ㅠㅠ」
“Haa…”
He even knew my real name, yet he claimed to have nothing to do with the fact that I was in this body. The situation was starting to seem suspicious. I frowned, and the system window flickered with purple light, as if he had sensed my doubt.
「The Capricious One: Trust meee!」
「The Capricious One: I said, trust me!」
「The Capricious One: Ho-su-ya~! ㅠㅁㅠ」
“…”
What is he, a kid? He was probably speaking that way on purpose, to keep the other person from thinking clearly. By now, I was starting to get a sense of how to deal with the god Loki, so I answered calmly.
“So, what business do you have with me?”
「The Capricious One: …Tch, you’re no fun (≧^≦)」
“…”
I decided not to respond. I kept my mouth shut and waited, and before long, the system window flickered again.
「The Capricious One: Well, fine.」
「The Capricious One: Let’s get to the point now.」
“…!”
Finally, he was going to speak. I swallowed unconsciously and kept my eyes fixed on the system window. Before long, words appeared.
「The Capricious One: Even if you were to leave my guild, Odin wouldn’t take you in.」
“…What?”
What on earth was that supposed to mean? I blinked briefly, then asked again.
“I mean, why?”
I was dumbfounded. What had I done to deserve being rejected? Irritation welled up inside me as I narrowed my eyes at the system window.
「The Capricious One: Did you really think Odin would welcome you into his guild?」
“That’s…”
「The Capricious One: Odin cultivated Kang Yoo-hyun and the others to be his warriors. But you’re not one of them.」
“…!”
「The Capricious One: He already sees you as my Einherjar. How could he possibly look kindly on you? Don’t you think so?」 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
So it’s all because of you…!
I wanted to say that, but I couldn’t bring myself to get the words out. I couldn’t deny that I had survived thanks to the help of the god Loki. So even if the god Odin misunderstood me, there was nothing I could do about it. Still, it felt unfair.
「The Capricious One: So just accept me.」
“Haa…”
There was no denying it—I couldn’t do anything about the situation now. I had already expected that some of the gods cultivating protagonists as Einherjar wouldn’t think well of me.
But I never imagined the god Odin would be one of them. If the king of the gods rejected me, then all the gods who followed him were bound to see me the same way. My reputation among the gods was practically ruined.
Still, wasn’t it thanks to me that they survived? Without me, the original storyline couldn’t have been changed, and the Ginnungagap Dungeon wouldn’t have been cleared.
This was nothing but using me when I was helpful and tossing me aside once I wasn’t. They had taken full advantage of me when I had value, and now that I didn’t, they were casting me out. I felt betrayed.
「The Capricious One: Annoyed, right? Frustrated, right?」
“Could you just shut up for a bit?”
「The Capricious One: Hng, that’s so mean ㅠㅁㅠ!」
“…”
Just more meaningless words from him. By now, I didn’t even feel like getting angry or frustrated. I clicked my tongue and spoke to the god Loki.
“It’s a bit unreasonable, but there’s nothing we can do. After all, he is the king of the gods.”
「The Capricious One: …The king, huh.」
“…?”
Even though it was just text, I could sense a hint of mockery. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I couldn’t help wondering: had the god Odin and the god Loki fallen out? Odin had clearly considered Loki a close friend—they had even become sworn brothers.
Their bond was that strong. Even when other gods complained about Loki’s pranks, it didn’t affect their relationship, because Loki never went too far.
Odin’s son, Thor, often got very angry whenever he fell victim to Loki’s tricks, but that didn’t harm the bond between the two gods.
Their relationship only worsened because of the prophecy. When the prophet foretold that Loki’s children would destroy the world, Odin began targeting them, and their bond quickly fell apart. After finishing my reasoning, I asked with a serious expression.
“It looks like Ragnarok isn’t over yet?”
「The Capricious One: …」
“Wasn’t Ragnarok supposed to end once we cleared the Ginnungagap Dungeon?”
The god Loki remained silent. I waited for his answer. After a moment, words appeared on the system window.
「The Capricious One: Yes. You’re right.」
“…!”
「The Capricious One: The fight isn’t over yet.」
「The Capricious One: Ragnarok is still ongoing.」
This was the very worst-case scenario I could have imagined. I couldn’t hide my shock at the unexpected words.
