Alix lowered her head momentarily and guffawed. It was too much of an expectation for chaos not to erupt somehow when the two families came together, especially if people like Zhang Lei and Zhang Lexian continued spewing nonsense.

Nan Yunwan had already told her about the encounter with her mother in the bathroom and what she had done so it was not surprising to see her slap Zhang Lexian.

Her two aunts joining in on the action was too much unexpected however. She had never seen them in action like this before.

Was the entire Tai family becoming violent because of her or were they always like this?

Her stomach rumbled and she waved her hand at the waitresses carrying the food, gesturing that they set it down before her. If there was drama, it was better for her to enjoy some food while watching it.

She would not interfere unless it was unnecessary. It was really sweet to watch Zhang Lexian get pay back even if it was not done with her own hands.

The food was put on top of the table and then the waitresses backed away, uncertain of their next move. How could they exit when everyone seemed to be coming over to watch the drama?

There were about forty five women in the spa from the two families altogether and a small crowd was beginning to form in the open area.

"Wow, your family prepares for weddings really differently." Mantis dragged a chair and sat next to Alix.

"We would not be the Tai’s and they would not be the Zhang’s if there was no drama." She responded.

When she thought about the days they spent at the Zhang’s during the new year, there had been some drama daily. Most of it was started by Zhang Lei or her daughter.

The cries of discomfort went up a notch as Zhang Lexian found herself being pulled back and forth by the hair between auntie Mo and her mother. The rate at which they were going, Zhang Lei would need a wig on the day of the wedding.

Alix sliced a piece of steak and laughed softly.

"Mantis, it’s really nice having a mother." Alix’s mind flashed to Mantis’s backstory and she sent the woman an apologetic look.

Mantis poked her on the forehead gently.

"You worry about stupid things, just watch your show. Tsk, tsk, i never knew that a trip to the spa would be so entertaining. The last time i was around your family Zhang An smashed Zhang Yong’s balls, now your mother is ripping out Zhang Lexian’s hair.

Can you people ever get together without doing something crazy?"

Alix did not respond, she had no right response to the question. Things like things were spontaneous and unpredictable.

Some of the older women from the Zhang family moved closer to the group which was scuffling.

"In-laws, we should not be doing such a thing in public. Aiya, we are going to ruin Alix’s special day if we continue like this."

"Yes, yes, Alix’s mother you don’t need to trade words and fists with the younger generation. Everybody knows Lexian is loud mouthed and stupid, just forgive her for having shit in the head."

"Pft!" Alix burst into laughter and the juice in her mouth came spurting out like a sudden shower of rain.

This was really better than any massage or bachelorette party they could have thrown her.

The person that had just said that was the wife of the second Zhang elder. Alix was not sure if she was deescalating or escalating the situation. She certainly succeeded in angering Lexian’s mother.

"Mother-in-law, why are you joining them to embarrass my daughter? Lexian is your own blood, you should be on her side." the angry woman screeched out.

Out of the blue someone shoved a bun in her mouth to shut her up.

Alix laughed even louder, which made some of the younger women laugh as well. The use of a bun in a fight was new in the family.

Zhang Pang pang took a photograph stealthily but Alix managed to see her through the corner of her right eye. Later, she would ask for that picture, it was a good memory to keep.

She moved her head around, searching for something. There was a lot of chaos going on but her cat was nowhere to be seen.

"What is going on here?" The stern voice of grandma Zhang resounded in the room.

"Qilu, let go." Another equally stern voice belonging to grandma Tai joined in.

Auntie Mo let go of Zhang Lexian, however she pushed her, making sure that the young woman ended up on the floor.

"Mother, they started it." she pointed to Zhang Lexian and the mother.

"Grandmother, it was them, they started it." Lexian countered with tears running down her eyes. "I didn’t do anything at all and Alix’s mother slapped me."

Auntie Mo put her hands on her waist. "Ho-ho, so you did not talk ill about my daughter? Isn’t it you that has been going around bullying her because you want her to give you her spices and beef jerky for free. You want to receive benefits from her for free while talking about her behind her back and being friendly with her former school bullies."

She turned around and looked at grandma Zhang.

"Madam, it’s good that you have come just in time for us to settle these debts. My daughter is pregnant with five babies, the doctor told her to be careful and avoid being overly stressed emotionally but this little uneducated cow in your house does not seem to understand.

I know that i am wrong to react with violence in public but i really can’t stand it anymore. Some of the women in your family seem to be provoking her every time they meet her.

My pretty baby is not violent, she doesn’t even know how to fight or argue so she swallows everything but i, her mother am not. Whoever bullies her, i will bully back ten times more. If you people don’t treasure her, we can easily call off this wedding and take her home."

The fork dropped out of Alix’s hand and fell onto the plate, her jaw followed, dropping open. Call off the wedding!!! No, that could not happen, her hubby would faint.

"Mother...."

"Shut up." Mantis whispered to Alix.
