Chapter 586: The concert___1

The last day of the holidays came quickly, and so did Alix’s first violin concert at home. Caishen had made true on his promise to spend thousands on tickets for family, friends and employees. It was fully sold out and that evening, the lucky ones to get their hands on a ticket gathered in the grand concert hall with great expectations.

It had been designed elegantly, illuminated with soft moon lighting provided by an artificial moon that Alix borrowed from a shop in the hidden city.

Above, hanging high from the ceiling were potted musical orchids of different colors. They were dull at the moment so they looked like ordinary flowers.

The make up of guests at this concert was rather eye catching, for one, there were too many wealthy individuals in attendance and two, the political figures that had turned up were quite important.

These were followed up by scientists, notable individuals that had made some great accomplishments in the field of medicine. They had come from home and abroad to attend the concert.

Many of them had recording devices or note books and pens as if they had come to take lessons from a famous professor.

It was one thing for them to come in with notebooks but why did some come in their white hospital gowns and rubber shoes or sneakers as if they had escaped the hospital at the last minute?

Grandpa Tai was eyeing them all with displeasure, they were not in coordination with the formal attire dressing requirement for the evening.

They were not the only ones he was eyeing that way, Zhang Lei was another one. Alix had talked to auntie Mo about the woman and she told grandma Tai who told him about Zhang Lei.

She had been going around badmouthing his precious granddaughter and tried to pour hot coffee on her so why had she come?

It was not as if the ticket stay on the shelf if she didn’t buy it. The Zhang’s really didn’t know how to control their affairs.

Families were always complicated, grandpa Tai was not the only one feeling sour over some things. Grandma Zhang was feeling uncomfortable with Yura’s presence, especially because she was sitting behind them with her boyfriend.

The old woman really wanted to have a word with whoever had designed the seating arrangement. It was like a slap to her face, inviting her former daughter-in-law with her new man while her son was still single. Grandma Zhang thought it was inappropriate for Yura to bring that man around them because people were bound to talk. If she was coming as the mother of Caishen, Bo and An, the new man should have stayed behind.

And why were they holding hands? Was Yura a blind child that needed hand holding all day long? Alix really needed to do better next time.

Unknown to her, there had been a mix-up which was how Yura ended up so close to the Zhang’s. Alix was not so muddleheaded to bring them together given their past history.

Zhang Bo was sitting towards the edge of the second row and next to him was Mantis. He kept trying to talk to her and she kept glaring at him.

She was also unhappy about the seating arrangement. Didn’t he say that he was not interested in system hosts like hers? Why invite her to dinner then?

Again, this too was not Alix’s doing, it was the captain’s arrangement.

It was safe to say that there was some drama among the guests but they were all keeping their faces straight and smiling pretentiously.

Tai Ho Sun noticed another unwelcome guest and he stood up with angry determination on his face.

"Sit down." Tai Change pulled him back down to his seat. "It is our sister’s first concert at home, we are not going to ruin it by fighting or raising voices."

Most of the Tai’s bent forward or turned their heads to see the unwelcome guest who was none other than the shameless master Rong.

"After the concert," Tai Change assured his hot headed brother.

One lightning bolt was enough to deal with master Rong but it would have to wait until after the concert. If lightning struck him out of the blue inside this concert hall, people would talk.

He was right to be cautious of course, there were quite a few system hosts in attendance. With a majority vote from system hosts declaring that they did not want non system hosts as their leaders, Alix was on a set path to victory as world bureau president. So, some system hosts had come to kiss the ring and show their support for her. A president needed a vice president after all, a right hand man and a council of advisers. Some were hoping to be lucky enough to secure positions in time.

The battle over the presidency was not over however as the six families were appealing the vote. Funnily enough, some members of those families were also in attendance and Alix could not fathom why. She was a thorn in their sides so why were they injecting money into her pocket?

Also sitting in the audience were assassins, system hosts or those whose bodies had been modified. The target on Alix’s back had become bigger with time.

They were not just mixed in with the audience, some were hiding in the ceiling, others had blended among the employees, one had even infiltrated the orchestra. This concert was destined to be an uneasy one.

Behind, in the dressing room where Alix was meant to be preparing, something else was happening. The doors leading to the dressing room had six armed men standing as guards. They were from the hidden city, deployed to ensure that no unauthorized party made their way inside.

In the room, an investigation center had been set up. Cameras had been arranged on all the musical orchids and fake moon plus all corners of the ceiling. The captain was not taking chances, even the seats in the audience had been bugged. For the system hosts working for the bureau, this was not a concert, it was a hunt.

All sorts of riffraff had come out of different corners of the world to deal with Alix, potential world bureau president after all. It was a chance to wipe out as many criminals as possible.

So far, forty three targets had been identified and more were being identified as verification continued.

The last touch of make-up was applied to Alix’s face and she stood up. It was time for the hunt to begin.
