Chapter 517: The captain’s side.

After a refreshing cold shower, Alix settled down to eat and talk to her guest, Mantis. Mantis had volunteered to be on the escort detail for Alix to every country. The two had been working together to beat up and rob all of the people that were involved in the selling of system hosts for entertainment.

They were going after the rich people as the bureau dealt with the politicians that were involved, making them untouchable to the two of them. Mantis had just returned from one such mission and she was opening the food.

Alix who was using a towel to dry her hair was curious about how the mission had gone and more curiously, how much she had got.

"What’s the loot this time round?"

"Four hundred thousand dollars in cash and an old painting worth three million from the Otto family. Yi Lin suffered at their hands so i am giving the four hundred thousand to her. The painting can be sold on the black market and the money can go to our future secret missions."

They were using the money that they were taking from the wealthy to compensate the system hosts that had been tortured or harmed by them. It was a warning to the wealthy families in the fold that there were consequences for their actions.

It was not just politicians and bureaucrats that needed to be warned. There was one thing however that puzzled Alix, nothing had been done to stop them. She had been waiting for someone to show up on her door with handcuffs for weeks but it had not happened yet.

"I am surprised that the bureau has not called us in yet to put a stop to our actions. They have to know that we are behind the robberies."

"The captain is protecting us." Mantis shared. "Mm, he told me to tell you to reject any plans for cameras to be put into your eyes. Most of us have them because we were told it was for convenience to relay information quickly when we are on missions but in truth, they are used to spy on us as well."

Alix had seen those cameras in action, her system had showed her how they worked. They were like small computers connected to a larger computer and captured real time information from the environment and sent it back for analysis.

"Why is the captain on our side?"

Mantis rolled spaghetti on a fork but it didn’t come out as she wanted which displeased her and she huffed. "Why is this difficult?" she complained. She raised her head and replied, "He hates bureaucrats and he disdains they way the bureau treats system hosts like weapons. He joined to protect others because he believes in peaceful co-existence between us and the government. Also, there is a rumor that someone from the dark side killed his wife, Genesis, the leader or Afaro, his second in command. The only way he can find Genesis or Afaro and have revenge is if he has information which can only be got from the bureau."

Alix covered her mouth to conceal the shock from what Mantis had just shared. She recalled the large stoic man who all about business and no smile when she met him. She just assumed he was cold without knowing that he had suffered a tragedy in his life. She was disappointed in herself for jumping to conclusions.

"Anyway, your first solo concert, how do you feel?" Mantis changed the subject.

"Tired and sleepy, even Majesty is tired." she indicated to the cat that had fallen asleep in sitting form like a human.

It looked so ridiculous and cute at the same time. Alix took a picture and shared it on Majesty’s account.

"Is there a reason why you brought your cat? I get that he is special but you take him everywhere. Are you afraid that he will be kidnapped or something?"

"It’s more like he will be the one doing the kidnapping." Alix got up and carried the cat to bed. She put him down and covered him.

Mantis captured all this with her phone, planning to upload the video when they returned to the country. This was the presidential suite of the hotel, they charged as much as ten to fifteen thousand dollars a night. Who knew that a cat would be sleeping in this expensive room like a little child.

Alix returned and sat down next to Mantis to finish up their meal.

"Where is the rest of your family? I am seeing left over cake and many used glasses."

"Gone, they are already on their way back home."

Mantis leaned back in the chair and raised her legs while sighing. She was filled with envy towards Alix because she had all these people in her life that loved her that they even came all this way to watch her first solo concert and celebrate with her. She on the other hand had nobody but her father.

Despite all of their wealth, he had refused to remarry and given all of his time and attention to her, raising her as best as he could.

Perhaps it was foolish of her to envy Alix because even though she had a single family member, he loved her so much.

"Why do you keep sighing Mantis?"

Mantis turned her head and pursed her lips. "Life, i am just thinking about it. It just crossed my mind that we are all at risk everyday. Two years ago, weather boy brought down a plane in Cancun, he sent it crushing into the sea. It was carrying two heads of the bureau from two different countries, Romania and Russia.

Everyone was so scared at that time, the dark side had never dared to attack the leaders of the bureau directly before. It made me realize that i hate flying so damn much. I would rather travel by sea than air if i can help it."

"That’s certainly the wrong thinking. Have you seen those videos of large shipping containers on the high sea when the ocean is angry? I would rather risk my life in the sky than anywhere next to water."

Mantis cackled a little bit. "Seen them! I have been on them occasionally, my father is the largest shareholder in BEX shipping, remember. The two of us have sea legs, and any chance we get, we are in the water. If i didn’t get an insect morphing system i would probably have got something water related. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

You on the other hand prefer the air because of your dragon system. I bet you always loved looking up at the sky as a child or wishing you could fly." She yawned, stretched her legs and closed her eyes.

"I got a weird text from your brother-in-law by the way. He invited me out for breakfast." she frowned. "Is it a date or something else?"

She yawned again and adjusted her body, folding her arms. From all signs it seemed like she was planning to sleep on the couch. Alix didn’t know why Zhang Bo had invited Mantis out for breakfast so she didn’t answer.

She got a blanket and covered the woman thinking to herself that their was no difference between her and Majesty. They both expected princess treatment automatically.
