The X Guide-Chapter 87: Visitors (3)
Lucian stepped back a bit. The man entered the room through the window. Fortunately, the window was big enough for his body to enter.
Nolan’s eyes also widened upon seeing who it was; he even instinctively sat up.
The man’s figure was huge, to say the least. His muscles were intimidating, as if just being gripped by those arms was enough to suffocate someone. The full arm tattoo on his right arm was also exposed.
He had a fine stubble on his jaw, adding to the extraordinary charm he held. Paired with the natural sharp gaze and his controlled dominance, it was more than enough to make others cower in fear.
Nolan was too familiar with the person standing in front of their window.
The Commander General, Arstem Viktor.
Nolan’s jaw dropped; he could not help but glance at Lucian, who actually called the commander general, an old man. Was he blind? There was no way someone would stare at that face and immediately think of the word old.
Of course, Lucian was truly different in this regard, it seemed.
Also... Lucian with the Commander General, really?
At first, Lucian still stared in annoyance at the newcomer, but gradually averted his gaze. He stepped back again, and in Nolan’s perspective, Lucian was close to running away, but the Commander General’s intent gaze was on him, and so Lucian could not do so.
"Why are you here?" Lucian cleared his throat, rubbing his head; he lifted his gaze again and met Arstem’s gaze.
The Commander General, Arstem Viktor, narrowed his eyes and stared intently at Lucian. Lucian gulped, his heart racing, but he controlled his emotions to a certain degree.
"I’m here to coax someone," Arstem answered. His voice was deep and commanding, yet the gentleness in the tone could not be concealed.
Lucian frowned and averted his gaze again.
"Who needs to be coaxed by you?" Lucian lowered his gaze as he murmured. He wanted to just leave, not wanting this man to see his cheeks becoming hot just by hearing those words from him.
Arstem noticed Lucian’s demeanor slowly changed; the corner of his lips tugged up slightly. He was about to step closer when someone knocked on the door.
Nolan was originally looking at his hands, making sure not to watch and ruin the moment between the two, when the knock disturbed all of them.
Lucian also snapped out of it and looked at Nolan.
"Who is it?"
Nolan glanced at Arstem, then quickly shifted to Lucian before he shook his head.
"I don’t know. Wait, let me open the door." Nolan immediately got up and did not wait for Lucian to answer.
It did not take long, and he opened the door; then he froze.
What the hell?
The door could be seen from where Lucian was standing, and so he also saw who the visitor was this time. It was his time to be startled.
It was Clynne.
Yes, Nolan’s esper that he was running away from for some reason.
Clynne was about to call Nolan’s name when he paused and sensed a gaze on him. He instinctively looked in the same direction and frowned. It was not just him; the man also frowned upon seeing him.
As they stared at each other, Nolan and Lucian also exchanged glances and saw confusion and puzzlement in their gazes.
How come these two were here at the same time? Coincidence?
While there was quite a bit of fun happening in the dorm room, the trio at their house had only begun to prepare to sleep when both Khal and Devion sensed something.
Their eyes met, then amusement flickered in their gaze.
Ayen noticed this and could not help but ask.
"What is it?"
Devion sat on the bed; he put his arms around Ayen and then whispered.
"Two troublesome fellows arrived."
Khal chuckled at Devion’s words.
"Who?"
"The espers of your roommates," Devion answered casually. He then laughed, "Too bad, we can’t watch the show."
Khal, who was now also sitting on the bed, answered with a small smile.
"We can go if you want."
"Nah. They won’t fight in front of their guides, will they?"
Khal nodded in agreement.
Ayen had already guessed who they were talking about. What were the odds that all of them came tonight? Also, with their words, he vaguely confirmed that the Commander General was indeed Lucian’s esper.
"Do they always fight?" Ayen asked out of curiosity.
Although the institute was the government’s affiliate organization, it always enjoyed a certain autonomy, just like the association.
Simply speaking, while the Commander General commanded the government’s forces, he would not easily command the institute or association forces.
Clynne’s status was more or less equal to the commander general, being the institute’s ace and leader. They always do their thing and would team up if necessary.
Ayen did not know they had a certain rivalry going on.
"Not much," Khal answered, his hands reaching out and untying Ayen’s hair, combing the long strands of hair with his fingers. Ayen leaned on him and listened. "But they often had arguments."
Devion hummed and also stroked Ayen’s hair, playing with the strands gently. Recently, these two liked to comb or play with his hair. Ayen just let them.
"The old monster hated Clynne’s guts." Devion smiled, as if he had remembered a memory.
"Old monster?"
Devion paused and then cleared his throat.
"Forget I called him that. I’m talking about Arstem, the Commander General."
In terms of prowess, they surely overpowered Arstem, but he has more experience than they do. Devion and Khal had yet to awaken when Arstem was already a resounding name in the world.
"Speaking of which, I’m mostly surprised that Clynne is now chasing a guide when he detested being paired with one before."
Ayen turned to Devion with a questioning gaze; his eyes were already half-lidded, looking like he was about to fall asleep.
"I only heard about it, was it three years ago?" Devion turned to Khal, who nodded and affirmed, as though he already knew what Devion was talking about.
Devion then explained. "I’m not very familiar, but I’m sure their feud started that time. The old... Ahem, I mean, Arstem is a very doting esper to his guide. I was surprised when I learned of this news. Arstem being a doting and obsessed esper... I still can’t picture it."
Uh, so were they talking about Lucian?
Khal seemed to notice his doubts immediately and answered for him while also responding to Devion.
"Yes, he has acknowledged only one guide. It’s your roommate. I was also quite surprised about it before. But," as he looked at Ayen, he smiled and continued. "I understand it now."
