The Wicked Female Is Wild and Scheming, Living in a Love Battlefield Every Day-Chapter 78: Amnesia
Corbin Crowley looked at her greedily, amused inside but showing nothing on his face, he merely said blandly, "You should weave more wicker baskets and backpacks, we’ll first pack up the salt stones, and once we find a way out, meet up with the Beastmen from the tribe, and then figure out how to transport the stuff back."
Luna Sutton nodded slightly, her gaze directed at The Salt Lake before her, "The salt stones certainly need to be taken back, but extracting the salt from the lake is a problem."
Carrying water back directly surely wouldn’t work, given the vast distance and huge workload, it’s clearly unrealistic.
Moreover, looking at the salt lake is not small, if we want to get enough salt, we definitely can’t rely on scooping up water bit by bit.
She pondered for a moment, then suddenly a light sparked in her eyes, turning to Corbin Crowley with excitement, "We can try drying out the lake water, which should leave us with salt after the water evaporates."
Upon hearing this, Corbin Crowley frowned and fell into deep thought, not speaking.
Clearly contemplating the feasibility of this method.
A moment later, he nodded, "Let’s try out your method first."
The two of them got right to work, busying themselves.
First, they found a flat area by the lake, then used the nearby soil and stones to simply set up a salt drying field.
Next, she had Corbin Crowley carve several wooden barrels, not needing them to be perfect, just good enough to hold water.
They used the wooden barrels to fetch water from The Salt Lake, then poured the saltwater onto the drying field, letting it evaporate naturally.
Once the lake water evaporates, salt would naturally form, which could then be collected and separated.
Apart from drying out salt,
Luna also wove numerous wicker baskets and backpacks, packed up all the salt stones covered with white granules by the lakeside, preparing to take them back later.
These salt stones are rich in salt content, a light scrape with a Bone Knife or placed in a stone pot for boiling would yield a lot of salt.
By the time they finished all this work, it had completely turned dark. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
About thirty-five baskets were filled with salt stones, and approximately five barrels of granulated salt were collected from drying.
Although not very refined, thankfully the salt was fairly white, and the granules were small, making it suitable for consumption.
Having labored all day, the two were famished.
Fortunately, there were plenty of wild animals in the forest by the lake; Corbin Crowley casually hunted one, allowing them to have a hearty meal.
After eating and drinking their fill, they found a nearby cave, built a fire in the middle, and rested around it.
As night deepened, the cave grew silent except for the occasional crackling from the fire.
Luna Sutton sat by the fire, suddenly remembering something very important.
She recalled the system saying Warwick Storm and Quinn Morgan hadn’t died, and had also fallen off the cliff with them.
Though she couldn’t tell where they had been washed to by the Umbraflow, she estimated them to be nearby.
The Salt Lake was so important that if discovered by Warwick Storm and Quinn Morgan, they’d surely spread the word, leading to a contest among the tribes.
She feared it might incite a bloody storm.
Thinking this over, she looked at Corbin Crowley beside her and voiced her concerns.
Upon hearing this, Corbin Crowley frowned, his eyes deep and thoughtful.
A moment later.
He looked at her, with a heavy expression, "What you said makes sense, this salt lake is a treasure. If discovered by other tribes, it would certainly cause fierce contention. Though The Wolf Tribe is strong, it’s not the strongest, and trying to claim it alone would be impossible."
Luna Sutton’s brows furrowed deeper, "That’s exactly what I’m worried about."
"How about this, you continue drying salt tomorrow while I search around to see if I can find them. If found, I’ll deal with them directly to eliminate future troubles."
As Corbin Crowley spoke, a hint of ruthlessness flickered in his silver eyes.
She nodded slightly, "Warwick surely has to die, but as for my Matron, if you find her, could you refrain from killing her right away, or at least wait a couple of days?"
It wasn’t that she had any maternal feelings towards Quinn Morgan, but purely to complete her task.
If Quinn Morgan died now, her task would fail as well.
He needed to stay alive for a few more days, until the task was completed, and she’d acquired the three-piece iron tools set; whether Quinn Morgan lived or died afterward didn’t concern her.
Corbin Crowley glanced at her deeply, replying indifferently, "Alright."
He didn’t ask why, assuming Luna Sutton still cared about their mother-daughter bond.
After all, a female like Quinn Morgan was destined to be captured and taken back for the leader’s disposal.
Luna Sutton let out a breath of relief, thankful, "Thank you, Corbin Crowley."
Upon hearing her gratitude, Corbin Crowley curled the corner of his mouth, suddenly feeling a bit unaccustomed.
He simply remained silent.
...
Meanwhile, in a somewhat damp cave downstream of the Umbraflow, Quinn Morgan sat by a campfire, looking dazed.
There was a large gash on her head, seemingly having bled a lot, with the wound crudely covered with some crushed herbs, though the bleeding had stopped, it still looked somewhat frightening.
Warwick Storm had already taken human form, squatting by the fire roasting meat, his eyes occasionally drifting to Quinn Morgan beside him, filled with worry.
"Who am I? Who are you?"
Quinn Morgan touched her bruised head, then looked at Warwick roasting meat beside her, feeling her mind was blank, memories wiped clean as if erased by a rubber.
She tried hard to recall the past but couldn’t, only making her head hurt more.
Warwick paused his actions, a complex look crossing his eyes.
He looked at Quinn Morgan, half-truthfully, "You’re Quinn Morgan, I’m Warwick Storm, you are my... companion. We accidentally fell off a cliff while hunting, and you hurt your head, this is what caused this."
At this moment, he suddenly felt it was a good thing for Celeste to lose her memory. Forgetting the past, she’d now be his alone.
No more sharing with other Beastmen, nor secretly meeting anytime.
Anyway, they already had two pups together, saying she’s his mate wasn’t wrong.
As for explaining this to The Raging Lion Tribe, thinking of some reason would be enough.
They just needed to keep it from The Wolf Tribe.
Quinn Morgan listened to him, tilted her head and thought it over, ultimately shaking her head in confusion, "But I don’t remember you."
Warwick sighed internally, though outwardly remained calm, softly saying, "It’s alright, not remembering is fine, we can get to know each other again and start fresh."
Hearing this, Quinn Morgan pondered a bit, then nodded, "Okay."
...
The next day, Luna Sutton got up early, caught several Silver Moon Tail Fish from the Umbraflow, and roasted them for breakfast.
After finishing the grilled fish, she continued with the salt drying work.
Since finding a way out wasn’t possible immediately, she figured she might as well start drying out the salt.
Corbin Crowley also ate a few grilled fish in the morning, then went out to search for Quinn Morgan and Warwick Storm.
The place where they fell off the cliff was the same, with only this stretch of the Umbraflow nearby, if they were alive, they must be around here or somewhere downstream.
As long as they searched carefully, they were bound to find someone.
Luna Sutton busied herself drying salt while Corbin Crowley was out looking for people.
Nearby, Finn Arcanus and the Beastmen, after searching for a whole day and a night, finally found a path leading to the bottom of the cliff.
Upon reaching the bottom and seeing the rushing Umbraflow before them, they frowned deeply.
"Yesterday Corbin Crowley and the others must have fallen into this river and then been washed away."
One of the Beastmen stepped forward, gazing at the swift current, speaking in a deep voice.
Finn Arcanus furrowed his brows tightly, looking downstream, "Everyone split up to search, whether alive or dead, we need to find them."
The other Beastmen responded affirmatively.
Then they began searching along both banks of the river.
