The Wicked Female Is Wild and Scheming, Living in a Love Battlefield Every Day-Chapter 458 - 342: Outbreak of Plague
Luna Sutton’s body stiffened slightly; she neither pushed him away nor responded, just listened quietly.
"He... has been stubborn his whole life, and it’s hard to change what he’s set on."
Mael Valerius rested his chin on her head, his voice muffled, "But he doesn’t represent me, nor does he represent our children. In my heart, you are you, the partner I have chosen for life. Those two dragon eggs are our flesh and blood, and they are my most precious treasures."
He tightened his arms, golden eyes filled with unprecedented sincerity, with a hint of pleading, "Please don’t push me away because of his foolishness, okay? I will always wait, until the hurdle in your heart is completely gone. As long as you let me stay, watching our children hatch and grow, being with you, I’m willing to do anything."
Luna had barely softened her attitude, and he was really afraid that because of his father, she would push him away again and treat him with indifference.
Luna Sutton didn’t really care much about Horace Valerius’s opinion, but she couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable.
She leaned against his chest, looking up at the man in front of her, who had set aside the Dragon Clan’s pride just to stay and earn her forgiveness, like a dog eager to please.
"I didn’t push you away."
Her voice was soft, with a hint of resignation, "Didn’t I let you stay?"
Mael Valerius breathed a sigh of relief, his dark golden eyes shining brighter in the dim night, "I know, Luna, I just feel uneasy, so..."
He eagerly tried to lower his head to kiss her, but she turned her head away to avoid it.
Noticing the dimming of his eyes, Luna Sutton felt a bit guilty, and said, "Tonight is Rhys’s turn."
She didn’t realize these words made Mael Valerius happier than just agreeing to let him stay.
What this meant was Luna was willing to accept him again, even though the grudge in her heart wasn’t entirely gone, at least she had let the matter go and was no longer holding it against him.
Knowing there was hope to become her sixth Beast Husband again, he was overjoyed.
Mael Valerius’s throat moved slightly, and he finally managed to suppress himself and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, "Alright."
He had just straightened up when the door suddenly opened.
"Luna~"
Soren Phoenix poked half his body through, his fiery red feather robe particularly eye-catching in the night, "I need to talk to Cousin..."
Seeing the situation inside, his voice cut off abruptly.
His peach blossom eyes flickered back and forth between the two, suddenly smiling meaningfully, "Oh, it seems I’ve come at a bad time."
Luna Sutton felt extremely uncomfortable under his gaze, as if she was guilty of something, her face instantly turned red.
She glared at Soren Phoenix, grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, "Remember to knock next time."
She really disliked this behavior, it made her feel like she had no privacy.
Especially with Malachi Arcanus, no matter how many times she scolded him, he had no awareness, coming in whenever he wanted, sometimes even jumping in through the window.
Corbin Crowley, Rhys Blackwood, Kian Sterling, and Zeke Veridian, on the other hand, did this very well; no matter what she was doing or who was in the room, they would always knock first.
Soren Phoenix flexibly dodged his head, caught the flying pillow, and laughed heartily, placing it back on the bed with a sycophantic grin, "Oh, Luna, don’t be mad, I promise to knock next time."
After speaking, he directly pounced on her, with an expression and manner reminiscent of a flirtatious gentleman in a brothel laying eyes on the top courtesan, his handsome face beaming with delight.
Mael Valerius could tell at a glance that his cousin was up to mischief again and walked over with a dark face, directly dragging him out by his collar.
"Take it easy, Cousin, this clothing is very expensive."
Soren Phoenix exclaimed exaggeratedly as he was dragged to the hallway outside the master bedroom.
Suddenly he remembered something, broke free with effort, looked up at Mael Valerius, "Your room is upstairs, right next to mine, I’ve already prepared it for you."
Mael Valerius released him, glanced at him, "Do I need you to arrange where I stay?"
In truth, he wasn’t happy about staying upstairs; he’d much prefer to stay downstairs, ideally right next door to Luna.
"What else?"
Soren Phoenix tidied his messy feather robe, "It’s the only empty room, unless you want to sleep in the woodshed?"
The side rooms in the courtyard were available, but they were cluttered, and clearing them would be a hassle.
Mael Valerius furrowed his brow, ultimately conceding, "Got it."
As long as it’s not the woodshed, upstairs it is.
Meanwhile, Rhys Blackwood stepped out of the bathroom in the backyard, heading upstairs to settle the eight children, knowing it was his turn tonight. He smiled slightly, and turned toward Luna Sutton’s room.
He appeared in the hallway outside the master bedroom on the first floor, only to be blocked by Mael Valerius and Soren Phoenix.
"Move aside."
He glanced indifferently at the two blocking his way.
Soren Phoenix immediately hopped aside.
Mael Valerius subconsciously stepped aside as well.
When Rhys knocked on the door and entered, closing the door to the master bedroom, the hallway suddenly fell into a silence where a pin could be heard dropping.
"Cough..."
Soren rubbed his nose, "So, cousin, get some rest early?"
Mael stared at the tightly closed door, suddenly stating, "She just said tonight is Rhys’s turn."
"Yes."
Soren blinked, "Why?"
"Nothing."
Mael turned and went upstairs, a smile he couldn’t suppress flashing in his dark golden eyes, "Luna forgave me, from now on I’ll take turns with you all."
Soren froze in place, and after a while, came back to his senses, muttering under his breath while touching his chin, "Taking turns together? Does this mean... Luna has accepted cousin again? So quickly?"
He quickly chased upstairs, wanting to ask for clarification, "Cousin wait..."
Mael stood in the hallway on the second floor, looking at several closed doors, unsure which one to enter.
Zeke happened to come out of the easternmost room, and upon seeing Mael, he froze for a moment, then coldly mocked, "Not sleeping, standing here pretending to be the Door Guardian?"
Mael was not annoyed by his jab, only calmly glanced at him, "Which room am I staying in?"
Zeke’s jade eyes narrowed slightly, and he sneered, "The firewood room suits you."
After saying this, he was about to close the door.
Soren hurried up the stairs, creating a vibrant arc in the staircase with his Fiery Red Feather Robe, "Oh dear, Bamboo Spirit, why is your tongue so venomous? Even a thousand-year-old venomous toad would be poisoned by you. Cousin lives in the room next to mine, it’s already tidied up."
He pulled Mael towards the west side, "Come on, come on, don’t mind this venomous bamboo."
Zeke stared at their backs, his fingertips itching for a Wind Blade, eventually coldly snorted and closed the door.
Don’t think he hadn’t heard The Mad Dragon had already been forgiven by Luna and was to take turns again; just thinking about it was infuriating.
...
Inside the master bedroom, the fire flickered, bright one moment, dim the next.
Luna lay in Rhys’s embrace, thinking about what he had said in the kitchen during the day, "You’re really not hibernating this snow season? Seriously?"
Rhys turned over and pinned her down, softly "Mm"ing in response.
"Why?"
She looked up at his cold expression, "Hibernation is instinctual for snakes, right?"
Rhys gazed down at her, the dim warm light in the room adding a touch of softness to his cold features, "The eight little ones are hibernating for the first time, someone needs to watch over them."
He paused, "And... I can’t bear to miss your snow season either."
After speaking, he lowered his head and kissed her.
Luna’s face turned slightly red, suddenly remembering something, "Speaking of which, in our world, there’s a legend about the White Serpent..."
She vividly recounted the story of Lady Seraphina, speaking animatedly when she got to the part about the flood at the Gold Mountain.
Rhys suddenly stopped, furrowing his brow, "Foolish."
She paused, feeling somewhat amused, "Tell me, where is it foolish?"
Rhys’s expression was indifferent, "Since she was a Serpent Demon, cultivating for a thousand years to take human form, having children with a human was already difficult; that bald monk caught her multiple times, he should’ve been killed to avoid future troubles rather than being led by the nose."
After hearing this, she was momentarily speechless.
Then she came to her senses, shaking her head with a smile, "Are all of you snakes so brutal?"
"It’s not brutality, it’s survival."
Rhys held her tighter, continuing his actions.
At that moment, in the yard, Jago’s hurried footsteps and his extremely loud, urgent voice suddenly resounded.
"Master, there’s a major problem, many Beastman female little ones in the tribe have suddenly started vomiting and having diarrhea, with high fever and red rashes."
Their movements and sounds stopped abruptly inside the master bedroom, they sat up simultaneously.
Luna threw on a robe and opened the door to leave.
Rhys followed closely behind.
Corbin from next door, and Kian from the first floor had already gathered in the yard.
Zeke, Malachi, Soren, and Mael also quickly came downstairs and joined in the yard.
Luna rushed straight to Jago, "What’s happening, explain clearly."
