Chapter 317: Chapter 261: They’re Here

Luna Sutton had long noticed the commotion over by the haystack and also saw Maya Miller hiding there watching, but she didn’t pay it any mind.

After Mia’s earlier blunder, if Maya dared to mess around again, she would indeed be foolish.

Maya might not be stupid, but jealousy can warp a person’s character, and who knows what she might do.

"System, keep an eye on Maya for me. If she does anything against me, let me know immediately."

She busied herself while telling the system this in her mind.

In the blink of an eye, she set up another makeshift stove, and with a newly fired clay pot, she made a pot of clucking chicken stew, filled with mushrooms, its aroma wafting around.

"Alright, the housekeeper is online."

The system’s lazy voice echoed in her head.

Luna Sutton’s mouth twitched. She suddenly found the darn system quite amusing.

Mael Valerius squatted beside her, adding firewood, his dark golden eyes reflecting the firelight, staring at her intently.

"What are you looking at?"

Luna Sutton felt her face heat up under his gaze, unable to resist glancing over with inquiry.

"Looking at you."

Mael Valerius suddenly leaned in, his nose gently brushing against her cheek, "Luna, do you remember what you promised me?"

His deep voice carried a hint of danger.

Her hand shook, nearly knocking over the pot of clucking chicken,

Of course, she remembered. Back then, to get him to agree to help Kian Sterling, she had promised that when his turn came, he could "mess around as he wished."

Thinking of this, her face blushed even more, and she teasingly glared at him, "I know, I know, no need to keep reminding me."

She slapped Mael Valerius’s face away as he leaned in too close, planning to turn and step out for some fresh air, only for him to grab her wrist.

"No rush."

His fingers grazed her wrist bone, his gaze darkening, "The night is long, we can take our time ’messing around’..."

Though he didn’t speak loudly, the statement perked up the ears of the surrounding beast husbands.

Corbin Crowley’s chopping motion instantly paused, his silver eyes narrowing with jealousy and displeasure as he looked over this way.

Rhys Blackwood was expressionless while peeling garlic, only to accidentally crush it into paste, rendering peeling unnecessary, it was ready to use.

Kian Sterling chuckled lightly, suddenly walking over to gently take the wooden spatula from Luna Sutton’s hand, his voice dripping with tenderness, "Luna, you’re tired. Let me do it."

Though his cooking couldn’t surpass Luna Sutton’s, after so much practice, he wasn’t bad either.

Zeke Veridian’s emerald eyes brushed over Mael Valerius, "Just tend to the fire, why the unnecessary flair?"

Malachi Arcanus squeezed between them, opening his mouth to shout, "Little Moon, the rice smells great, is it ready to eat? My stomach’s growling."

This shout finally broke the strange atmosphere.

Luna Sutton took the chance to withdraw her hand, lifting the clay pot lid, letting the fragrant smell of rice spread instantly.

The pearly white grains of rice glistened like pearls under the firelight, each one full and plump.

"Smells wonderful!"

Malachi Arcanus sniffed with anticipation, "Little Moon, does this really fill you up better than meat?"

"You’ll know once you try it."

She smiled, using a wooden spoon to scoop a bowl of rice, then ladled some clucking chicken and mushroom soup over it, making sure to include plenty of both.

Malachi Arcanus received the bowl, wolfing down a large mouthful, puffing as it burned his mouth but unwilling to spit it out.

The rice aroma mixed with the savory chicken soup burst in his mouth: "Mmm, delicious!"

Corbin Crowley elegantly consumed the white rice, a smile flickering in his silver eyes, "The flavor is indeed unique, a taste of its own."

Rhys Blackwood remained silent, but he ate faster than anyone, already helping himself to a second bowl.

Zeke Veridian, at this point, couldn’t be bothered to shave Malachi Arcanus’s head, too engrossed in eating to lift his head up.

Kian Sterling and Mael Valerius both ate with gusto, each racing the other in speed.

Though one hailed from The Royal City and the other from The Dragon Clan of Aetheria, neither had eaten white rice before, having always relied on meat.

Now they both realized that one doesn’t have to eat meat to feel full; rice could do the job just as well, if not better.

Lyle Sutton and the Priest came over, lured by the fragrance, with The Old Wolf King accepting the bowl his daughter handed over. After one bite, he couldn’t stop: "Luna, this rice is indeed great, easier to digest than meat."

The Priest held his bowl, revealing three large yellow teeth: "It’s indeed good stuff. I’m getting old, my teeth aren’t so good. Eating meat is a hassle, but this rice is softer, better suited for me."

The witch doctor crouched nearby, finishing his bowl in a few bites, then looking eagerly at the pot: "Girl, another bowl please!" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Luna Sutton’s mouth twitched. Luckily, she had cooked enough rice; otherwise, it might not have been enough.

She quietly filled another bowl for the witch doctor, handing it over while explaining, "Rice not only fills you up but is easy to store. If you dry it and seal it in a clay jar, it can last for years without going bad."
