Chapter 387: Opening Her Heart to Him

Admitting to seeking trouble herself, she accepts it, but she doesn’t regret it. As long as Chi Yu can stay by her side forever, never leaving her again.

While he hasn’t discovered anything yet, she must meticulously cater to him.

It’s just that she’s really tired.

She didn’t mention needing rest, forcing herself to stay spirited and accompany him in his antics. One had to admit, Quan Jin truly has incredible energy; by five o’clock, he dragged her to an old district’s Cantonese breakfast shop.

The sky wasn’t bright yet, only streetlights were on.

Gu Yuan was reaching her limits, and upon seeing that Cantonese breakfast shop, her expression was faint, without any trace of joy.

Was it already time for breakfast?

The incessant chatter of Quan Jin sounded by her ear, "Are you sleepy? You seem a bit tired, but wait before you sleep, have breakfast first, then you can sleep the whole day. I found this place using several apps on my phone. I heard their Cantonese breakfast is very famous; I thought you might like it."

Listening to his words, Gu Yuan understood.

He probably found out she likes eating Cantonese breakfast. Waiting for her in this bar in the old district was just to bring her to this famous breakfast spot.

Gu Yuan inwardly gave a bitter smile, should one call it romantic or not? He doesn’t care about his wife at home, but he’s all in for her outside.

Sigh... it’s deeply touching.

Not only did Quan Jin arrive early, but by now, many people were already lining up. Quan Jin stood first in line, holding Gu Yuan’s hand the whole time.

The shop wouldn’t open until six.

It was still over twenty minutes until six. Gu Yuan was overwhelmingly tired, her spirits drooping to the extreme, yet Quan Jin, in his excitement, hadn’t noticed.

Gu Yuan said, "I’m going to lean against the wall over there and wait for you. Come over after you buy everything."

Quan Jin immediately frowned, "Are you sneaking off to contact someone else? Who, your sugar daddy or your fish? Gu Xueli, don’t forget I’m your boyfriend now."

Gu Yuan: "..."

Incurable!

Quan Jin also realized his words were a bit intense. Damn, having just become the official partner, even a big man like him was getting insecure, as if she’d slip away if he didn’t pay attention.

"I’ll have someone drive over," he softened his tone a lot, checking his watch as he spoke, "It should be just a few minutes. Want to sleep in the car later?"

Gu Yuan murmured in agreement, not saying anything further.

The sky was dark and dim, not yet six o’clock. Apart from a few cars and early commuters on the old district street, there were already sanitation workers working in the green belts. The sound of sweeping could be heard rhythmically, reminding everyone a busy day was about to begin, and it alleviated some of Gu Yuan’s fatigue, thinking about those even more exhausted than she was.

Before six, Quan Jin’s car was driven over, and the driver handed the keys to Quan Jin, who then handed them to Gu Yuan, "Go to the car, hmm?"

Gu Yuan took the car keys, still only responding with a murmur, then turned and headed to the car.

She sat in the back seat.

She shut the car door and closed her eyes to sleep.

The breakfast shop owner opened right on time. The rolling door lifted, the glass door followed, and clouds of white steam wafted out, with Quan Jin standing at the front getting enveloped first.

His expression was extremely displeased.

The owner asked a few questions and continued busying himself. After all, this wasn’t a high-end place; food took precedence, not service.

A few minutes later, Quan Jin walked out to the car door with a bag of breakfast.

He opened the door, "That steam was so unpleasant, and then the environment—it just makes me wonder how it got those good reviews online, even the shumai looks just average..."

He said a whole lot by himself.

Only then did he notice that Gu Yuan was asleep inside the car.

"Hey?"

No response.

Was she that tired?

Quan Jin closed the door, walked around the car hood, and got inside from the other side.

Gu Yuan’s sleep was light; the more tired she was, the more she needed a quiet place to rest. In such an environment, she couldn’t sleep deeply, but she was utterly exhausted.

Seeing Quan Jin come inside, the commotion was minimal, so she opened her eyes, glancing sideways.

He asked, "Did I wake you?"

Gu Yuan answered him with her eyes: What do you think?

He lifted the breakfast he held in front of her, "Eat now?"

No appetite.

She needed rest now, and if Quan Jin looked closely, he’d surely see the many more red veins in her eyes than usual, but unfortunately, he didn’t notice, his mind focused on breakfast.

"Alright then." She reached out her hand.

Quan Jin handed over a shumai wrapped in oiled paper, "It’s a bit hot."

Gu Yuan said, "It’s fine." She prepared to take it.

"I’m your handy helper now. Let me hold it for you; you just bite." He was quite thoughtful, willingly serving and pleasing her.

Gu Yuan let him, opening her mouth to take a bite. It tasted good, appealing to general tastes, though its appearance wasn’t refined.

Quan Jin asked nervously as he leaned in, "Is it good?"

Gu Yuan nodded.

She didn’t speak, just nodded, which left Quan Jin uncertain, "Could it just be a name without merit, not actually tasty?"

Gu Yuan smiled at him, "You could try and see for yourself, couldn’t you?"

He really did take a bite from where she had bitten, chewing, his expression a bit strained, "Just so-so."

Gu Yuan added, "I’ve had lots of Cantonese breakfasts, and this one’s actually quite decent."

"Really?" He seemed still a bit skeptical.

Gu Yuan nodded once.

He started feeling happy, probably because he was nervous earlier, afraid she wouldn’t like it, so he fed the bitten shumai back to her mouth.

Gu Yuan stayed still, looking at him.

Seeing her not opening her mouth, Quan Jin’s expression fell, "Do you dislike me because I haven’t brushed my teeth?"

Gu Yuan: "..."

As Gu Yuan was about to open her mouth, Quan Jin pulled his hand back, took a bite himself, one of his cheeks puffing out as he said, "I really haven’t brushed my teeth, you know, it’s true."

Gu Yuan: "..."

Quan Jin had bought a lot of breakfast, and Gu Yuan only barely ate some out of courtesy, quickly losing her appetite. Quan Jin commented, "Are you a cat, eating so little?"

Am I a cat? She didn’t know.

She just wanted rest now.

Quan Jin brought over shrimp dumplings, coaxing her, "Won’t you eat a bit more? There’s so much left, I can’t finish it."

Gu Yuan shook her head, her voice soft and warm, "I can’t eat anymore."

More like a cat now.

He put the shrimp dumplings back; actually, he couldn’t eat anymore either. He wasn’t fond of this kind of breakfast; a bowl of noodles would be more satisfying. But since she liked it, he went with her taste.

During the few seconds Quan Jin was distracted, Gu Yuan closed her eyes and fell asleep.

The speed at which she fell asleep.

Quan Jin: "..."

He hadn’t slept all night either and still remained energized, even a bit elated. Moreover, he specifically chose this place because it was near the breakfast shop she liked. He even checked various review apps to select it.

Seeing so many people lined up, he was confident it was the right choice.

Yet she barely ate any.

Really, only just a little.

Quan Jin felt immensely bummed, a bit displeased, as if his heartfelt effort was wasted.

"Gu Xueli."

"How come you..."

The words trailed off, abruptly stopping.

In this close distance, he was very near her. After he called her name, she opened her eyes to look at him.

Then, Quan Jin noticed the red veins in Gu Yuan’s eyes, more than when he hadn’t noticed them before. Suddenly, he couldn’t speak, as if a lump of cotton was blocking his throat.

She asked, "What were you saying just now?"

"Nothing much." His lashes lowered, avoiding her gaze.

Gu Yuan could only close her eyes again.
