The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 49: Pinpoint
Lady Gisella walked outside the tent. She knew her destination and she knew that nothing was going to stop her now.
The small tent was not far away. Lady Gisella walked towards the entrance but her legs stopped, unable to make a move. She couldn’t bring herself to enter without permission. Or was it that Princess Eleanor’s words were pricking her heart? Lady Gisella could not tell.
Her mind was in chaos and it felt like there was no way out. Lady Gisella’s palm started sweating. She rubbed them against her clothes but the feeling kept on building up. Something in her heart was burning. The feeling of discomfort was too huge to ignore. Was it the sun shining over her heat or the dry heat wave of the desert? Lady Gisella could not pinpoint.
"How long are you planning to stand there?" A deep voice came from inside. Lady Gisella swallowed hard as she came back to reality. She did not know how long she was there but now that Sir Kit had pinpointed it she could not ignore the words and walk away.
Lady Gisella took a deep breath as she said in a small voice, "Is it a good time to talk?"
"Enter." As the words were said, Lady Gisella took a deep breath and entered the room. She tried to put an innocent smile on her face but it could not be maintained at all.
Sir Kit was not facing her. Only his back could be seen. Lady Gisella knew that he had changed his clothes but the aura that she was feeling was completely different. The man in front of her was not the one she took to the Angevin Kingdom.
"Lord." Lady Gisella bowed, waiting for the man to give her permission to look up. Lady Gisella knew that he was not happy with her. Maybe he might have guessed what she had said.
"Lady Gisella." Sir Kit looked at the lady as he indicated to her to stand up. He had known her for a long time. She had practically grown him into the man he was today but that never meant that she would go against him again and again.
Once Lady Gisella stood up, her breath hitched. Sir Kit was looking at her with disappointment. She knew that she had crossed a line she never should have. Princess Eleanor’s words reminded it as well.
Maybe in the short trip, Lady Gisella was so used to giving orders that she forgot her place. Or maybe because Princess Eleanor behaved like an innocent deer from the start to mislead her. But now that the deer started to show its claws, reality struck hard. Lady Gisella knew that the Princess’s status was much higher than her and so was the man standing in front of her.
"What did you say to her?" Sir Kit said. His voice was full of questions as he sat on the bed. His eyes grew with unknown emotions that even he could not pinpoint.
Lady Gisella knew what Sir Kit was saying. She knew what was in his mind. Although Lady Gisella wanted to keep quiet and ignore the tingling feeling that was bubbling up in her heart she knew that the fear was real.
Lady Gisella linked down, "The Princess said that she is a Princess of a Kingdom and could be the Crown Princess. I am in no position to question her." Lady Gisella’s words were small as a whisper by the end as she continued, "And she said that if I have any questions then maybe I should ask you about it." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"So you decided to come here and question me?" Sir Kit said his eyebrows but his tone was the one that brought fear to Lady Gisella’s heart. "No Lord, How could I... I know that I shouldn’t ask this but I feel like I should know. What if someone asked me why Princess Eleanor was hurt. Where was she at night?"
Lady Gisella’s words came to a sudden end but she saw Sir Kit looking at her with a stiff face. She knew that she should have kept quiet. Maybe she should have not said the words she had said. But the habit was a vicious thing and she had a habit to tell him whatever was in her mind. It was the same from the time he was a small kid and it had continued even now.
"So you want to know where we were? Is Lady Gisella afraid that something might have happened?" Sir Kit folded his hand but the aura surrounding him was deadly.
Lady Gisella swallowed hard. How could she say ’Yes,’ when the man was looking at her with a narrowed gaze. Lady Gisella had no words to say. Although she was struggling she still managed to keep quiet, refusing to look up.
"You should not worry about such things. I know my limit. And I know I could not develop feelings for a Crown Princess’s candidate." Sir Kit said as he looked down. His mind went towards the night when Princess Eleanor was shivering. She might have had a nightmare but her body was cold as snow.
’Will she have a nightmare today as well?’ Sir Kit thought as he sighed. His eyes lingered at the entrance wanting to go and check on the Princess. But he knew that there would be many eyes on her. After entering the Roulux Empire, the royal family’s eyes would be on her. On every Princess that was escorted here.
Sir Kit looked at Lady Gisella. He knew that he was overreacting. He took a deep breath as he decided to tell Lady Gisella the truth. After all, he knew that she might only be the one who would be able to understand him at this point.
"There were three groups following us last night. And I know two of them." Sir Kit said in a low tone. His senses turned sharp as he looked outside the tent to make sure that no one was listening, "One from her own Kingdom while the other from the Empire."
