Chapter 194: Chapter 194

Prince Arlo smiled as he looked around. There were so many people surrounding him, displaying different emotions.

"Are you sure that nothing else can be done?" The Queen’s voice could be heard from the side but Prince Arlo already knew the outcome.

"Find a way to do it." King’s angry tone filled the room. "He is the future Prince. You have to cure him completely."

Prince Arlo was silent as he thought back on the time when the attack happened. But his thoughts did not stop there. It went back to a time way back from then. When he was living alone, his sister was happy to be the Princess of the Kingdom and his parents were too full of themselves to even care about him.

Prince Arlo was silent as he missed the family’s love from the past. He was always loved and pampered, but suddenly that love was taken away from him and was replaced with work. He had to endure and be groomed as the Crown Prince of the Angevin Kingdom. At that time he was only nine and a half years old.

Prince Arlo missed Prince Edwin and Princess Eleanor the most. He understood that he would never see his Uncle and Aunt again along with Prince Edwin, but he was grateful that he was able to be with Princess Eleanor. But his sister had not been in the palace. She had to go to her maternal grandparent’s house because of his family. Because people could not stop talking.

"Is something bothering the Prince?" Prince Arlo looked up at the man who had at some point drew nearer to him. He looked around, only to realize that he was near Princess Eleanor’s room.

"Duke Felix," Prince Arlo smiled but it did not reach his eyes. He looked to the side as he said, "I just missed Sister Eleanor."

"Oh, is that it?" Duke Felix’s voice was soft. "It is understandable. I miss my friend too."

Prince Arlo’s eyes locked onto Duke Felix. He knew that the man was a good friend of Princess Eleanor and Prince Edwin. If he missed them, then Prince Arlo might also miss them.

"I wish I had someone to talk to." Prince Arlo’s voice was a soft whisper as he blinked his eyes nervously.

"I am here for you." Duke Felix said in a friendly tone. There was nothing he could not think of now. His eyes were showing the sadness of missing his family and eagerness to share his feelings with someone.

’Duke Felix had long lost his father too’ It was then that Prince Arlo remembered that Duke Felix’s father had gone to save the previous King and had lost his life. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"Yes," Prince Arlo said as he nodded his head.

There was silence that reigned between the two. Neither of them said anything until Duke Felix extended his hand to Prince Arlo. "I will show you someplace that I used to go with Princess Eleanor and Prince Edwin. Maybe you will like it too."

Prince Arlo smiled as he took Duke Felix’s hand. He was simply happy that Duke Felix was willing to take him to such a place.

The place was beautiful. He could see the mountains from the side. Although the cliff was a little high, the fresh air and flowers surrounding it were mesmerizing enough to ignore the height.

Prince Arlo was happy to be here, but there was regret in his heart. He wanted to come here with Princess Eleanor but who would have known that such a thing would happen.

"They both wanted to show this place to you." Duke Felix said as he smiled, "Can you see that flower blooming there? Princess Eleanor used to love it. Although the flower would usually grow on such steep cliffs, Prince Edwin loved his sister to the point that he would go get it for her no matter the hardships to his body."

Prince Arlo looked down as he saw the flower. He had never seen it before in Princess Eleanor’s hand nor in Prince Edwin’s. But if Duke Felix said so, it had to be true, would it not?

Prine Arlo was sure that it was the truth and he wanted to have the flower too. He felt obligated to get it. Now that his sister Eleanor, who loved him more than his real sister did, was alone, Prince Arlo wanted to be a part of her life to make her smile.

"I want to get the flower." Prince Arlo said in a whisper. So what if Prince Edwin could not get the flowers that Princess Eleanor loved so much, Prince Arlo was confident that he would be able to get them for her.

"Is the Prince sure? I can get it for you if you wish." Duke Felix suggested but Prince Arlo shook his head.

"No, I think I should be able to get it on my own. But will Duke Felix hold my hand?" Prince Arlo knew that the distance was not that large but he was well aware that he was still a kid. He had a height restriction. He still needed some help to maintain his balance.

Soon Prince Arlo held Duke Felix’s hand as he tried to reach for the flower. Everything was stable and smooth as he picked the flower. But as he pulled his body up, he suddenly felt the hold on his hand loosening up. There was a slight panic in his eyes as he tried to quickly move back, but it was useless.

"Duke! Help!!" Prince Arlo cried out as Duke Felix tried to pull him back. Although their hands were still holding onto each others’, Prince Arlo’s body was lying on the side of the cliff and gravity was working against them. The flower was still tightly grasped in his hand, but there was fear shining in his eyes.

"Don’t worry Prince, I am here." Duke Felix shouted as he moved his body and stretched out his other hand to the side. Both of Duke Felix’s hands were holding onto him, trying to pull him up. But Prince Arlo’s heart was racing at his precarious position. He closed his eyes nervously as he felt his body being pulled upwards, but in the process, his legs were injured.

Prince Arlo could feel the thorns and stones cutting his skin and scraping against his open wounds as Duke Felix pulled him up. But he could not scream. He did not want to scream. He gritted his teeth and put on a blank face, but his eyes still could not help but tear up.

"Prince Arlo, are you alright?" Duke Felix asked in a worried tone, but Prince Arlo was quite sure that he saw a slight smile on Duke Felix’s face.

"We should go." Prince Arlo said and the Duke followed. The doctors were called over immediately after and he was treated. But he soon understood what had happened. The cliff was off limits for a lot of reasons and the main reason was that there were poisonous plants in the area. The thorns and leaf’s sap that had come into contact with Prince Arlo’s opened wounds were the reason that his legs had gotten weaker.

Prince Arlo was devastated but his eyes stayed on the table which had the flower on it. A thought came to his mind. If there were poisonous plants around, then it was unlikely that Prince Edwin would allow Princess Eleanor to visit the place, let alone allow her to touch anything there.

"Is the flower poisonous?" Prince Arlo asked the doctor who had come to treat him. Seeing the man nodding his head, Prince Arlo knew that he had been schemed against and he had to be careful of the man whom his sister loved and Princess Eleanor trusted. Duke Felix has ulterior motives.

And now sitting up on the bed, he understood what those motives were. The scene in his mind changed to the exact time when Princess Macy was attacked. The attack was not serious. Otherwise, Duke Felix would not have that opportunity of walking around the Palace like a hero, but Prince Arlo knew that the plan was far more insidious.

When the man had attacked with the knife, his eyes were only focused on his legs. As if he knew that his legs were his weak point. As if he was well informed.

Prince Arlo had moved aside in fear of getting hurt, but the man had already made his move. The knife was about to cut him. As a prince, Arlo had to learn a lot of things - including self defense - and having fast reflex was one of them. The knife had only managed to superficially grazed the side of his leg.

Prince Arlo was about to run to the side of the guards who had already formed a protective barrier around them, but he was a little late.

"Prince Arlo," Prince Arlo heard Duke Felix’s voice as his legs stopped. He looked back at the man who was looking to the side, but it was too late. The knife had already penetrated into his skin and he fell to the ground. The royal knights came to the rescue as they killed the rebel but it was a little too late for Prince Arlo and he knew it too.

His doctor had specifically asked him to pay attention to his recovery and he was hurt yet again. If only Duke Felix had not called for him. If only, he had continued running. If only he did not stop and looked back.

Prince Arlo took a few breaths as he looked up, only to see Duek Felix’s lip’s curling up.
