The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 426: They chose her
Chapter 426: They chose her
Earlier at the Nightshade Mansion.
Rebecca stood up and then held her husband’s hand. "What are we going to do? We can’t abandon Abrielle."
"It will be the hardest decision ever, but we can’t lose everything," Pierre said, and Rebecca let out a cry. Her grip on his hand tightened.
"This will be my last gift as a father, it is the only choice we have." His words held heavy meaning. The best he could do was delay Callista and Lucian. He was sure Cedric was smart enough to have realised the situation of things and had fled by now.
This was the last gift he was going to give to Abrielle.
There was a loud knock on his door before he could reply to Rebecca. His brows furrowed and he let go of her hand to approach the door.
The door creaked open and his eyes fell on a frightened servant. "The crown prince demands your presence." The servant said. Rebecca overheard this and walked towards the door.
"What happened?" She asked, not having a good feeling about this. The servant bowed his head. "They found evidence that her lady Abrielle is in the mansion." The servant explained and Rebecca’s heartbeat dropped to her stomach.
Pierre’s face went pale. "How did he find out?" It was too soon for Lucian to know unless someone told him. A servant had snitched on them.
The Nightshade family could hide Abrielle but hiding a fugitive was still a treasonable felony. Lucian was never meant to find evidence that they were in here. Pierre’s face was pale, and he rushed out of the room, followed by Rebecca.
"Where is he?" Pierre asked. The servant who led the way replied.
"He is in the young lady’s room." Rebecca’s eyes went wide. She grabbed her gown and ran scared that Lucian had caught Abrielle in her room. Her grip clutched the fabric of her skirt as she ran.
Her footsteps echoed through the walls, and she eventually got to Abrielle’s room. Fear gripped her, the door was wide open. She rang towards the door but stopped when she saw Callista sitting on the bed with Lucian leaning against the wall waiting for them..
"You look scared, your grace. I guess you will be since evidence of treason has been found." Lucian mentioned as he straightened up his posture.
"What are you doing here?" Rebecca asked, her gaze focused on Callista. Callista tilted her head.
"Nothing much, just admiring the room that was meant to be mine." She replied effortlessly. Pierre finally caught up, and he was trying to evaluate the situation.
"How did you find this room?" Rebecca asked again. Her bias didn’t want Callista close to Abrielle’s room. She knew Callista was her blood, and she did have a tender side for Callista, but Rebecca was aware and could read through that perfect smile on Callista’s face.
Callista hated Abrielle. "You mean the place you were hiding Abrielle. The servants told me but we were late. Abrielle is already gone." Callista shrugged then stood up. ƒгeewebnovёl_com
"If you are certain they were here why are you not chasing after them?" Pierre asked this time around. He knew they were already cornered here.
"There is no need, I already have my brother on the grass plains which is the only route they can use. If they are caught, it is enough evidence to prove your treason, and that is the end of the Nightshades." Lucian explained. Pierre and Rebecca were already cornered into a trap.
"There is no way to deny it. This room looks like it was used not so long ago." Callista added, then paused her gaze meeting Pierre. "But at last I am a daughter with a heart. I will give you one chance to save yourself. Open the gates and let the rest of the knights in to trap them from both sides. Even if you don’t agree, Prince Alfonso is enough to capture them. "
Pierre was thrown into deep thoughts, he could lose everything. Rebecca panicked because she knew what he might choose. "You don’t need our support to capture Abrielle or get the throne. You just want us because you hate Abrielle. Why?" She asked, her fingers curled into a fist.
Callista scoffed, "Why do you ask?" She then laughed. "Why do I hate the girl who took my position? The one that ruined my life." Her eyes turned dead, finally dropping the nice act.
"She didn’t ruin your life. She was just an innocent baby. It was my mother who switched you for selfish reasons." Rebecca defended Abrielle. Seeing her biological mother defend another broke something in Callista.
"She did, if Abrielle wasn’t there the day I was born. I would not have cast aside. You would have fought to keep me alive but there was an option that led to me being discarded. Her existence ruined my life." Rebecca went silent, her heart ached for Callista. What happened was truly unfortunate.
If she didn’t faint she would have stopped her mother. She didn’t understand why her mother was ready to discard her own flesh and blood just to make Rebecca happy with a healthy child.
"I am sorry for what you went through." She apologised. Callista shook her head
"Sorry can’t fix everything. I lived like a beggar, an orphan and a slave. I was beaten, raped on several occasions. I went days without food and thought I would die. I didn’t die. During those days, I cursed my family endlessly. The priestess told me my family was killed by bandits, which was why I was abandoned. Maybe they knew if I found out I was thrown away to die, it would kill me, and that’s exactly what it did. I was destroyed."
Tears started to pour down Rebecca’s cheeks. She broke down falling on her knees. She could not imagine it.
"Worse, I finally met my mother, and she was hesitant. She wants to protect the daughter that was chosen for her." Callista’s voice broke, she felt like crying but she wasn’t going to cry
"The choice is simple. Are you standing with the crown or not?" Lucian asked. Callista stood quietly watching Rebecca crying. Pierre was lost; he did his best, but life was unpredictable.
"Tell the guards to open the gates." He instructed the servants and Rebecca’s cries grew louder.
