The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 420: A mother’s selfishness
Chapter 420: A mother’s selfishness
Rebecca ran to her room, her heart felt heavy with emotions. The past had come to haunt her. Why now of all times?
"My lady, what are you going to do? What if she is really your daughter?" The aide asked Rebecca, who had already collapsed on a chair, her face was pale.
"I don’t know, this can’t be happening. This can’t be real. Mum really swapped the babies." She muttered continuously. Her stomach told her Callista was the child she carried in her womb, but what would happen to the baby she loved selflessly for 20 years, the one who was her life?

Close to 21 years ago when Rebecca finally got pregnant after years of failing. She wasn’t old at the time because Rebecca and Pierre had gotten married very early in their teens but they weren’t blessed with a child until they had their miracle
A baby she swore to love with all her heart. Towards her last trimester, Pierre and Mikhail sensed something was off with the baby. Her life force was extremely weak and this made Rebecca scared to her core.
"She won’t survive birth," Mikhail said. Pierre could not argue because he also saw it. His vision told him his child was too weak to be born.
Rebecca broke down in tears, she wasn’t going to accept it. She wasn’t going to give up on her baby. "She won’t die," Rebecca declared then started making arrangements to travel back to her family land.
Her family had noble roots with Heliosa, who held medical secrets that could save her baby since Heliosa was more medically advanced than Dacronia. The journey was rough, and Pierre accompanied her the entire journey until she got to her family’s land.
Unfortunately, he could not stay for her birth because of a war that threatened Vesper’s borders of Dacronia.
Her pregnancy was harder, just as Mikhail had seen, and she went into labour a month earlier. She remembered the fear and dread she felt when her water broke. How her mother trembled seeing her in that situation.
Unexpectedly, that night, there was a knock on their door. Her uncle, her mother’s brother, arrived at their door. He had travelled for days from his land, a nearby duchy, to seek Rebecca’s mother’s help because of her rich, earthly healing magic. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Beside the red-headed man, since Rebecca’s maternal side had ginger hair because of their Heliosian heritage, another ginger-haired woman Rebecca had never seen before.
"Who is she?" Her mother asked, but she didn’t leave Rebecca’s side, and the maid ran towards the heavily pregnant woman who was slowly losing consciousness.
"I don’t know, sister, but I found her in a slave den I raided. She is Heliosian, but she is too weak to speak. Her pregnancy is close to the end of her third trimester, but I don’t think she will live long enough to complete it." He explained.
Her uncle felt pity for the pregnant Heliosian slave and wanted to save the baby since the mother was fading. He rode for 3 days to his sister. What he didn’t expect was his niece being in labour.
The woman was dying, and the baby had to be operated on in her womb; that was the only way to save the mother and child. The only one that could do it was Rebecca’s mother or the flameworth lord but he was far away in Vitalis.
"She will have to hold on. Rebecca’s baby is coming first. I can’t abandon my grandchild." Rebecca’s mother explained and then instructed another room to be prepared for the slave.
Rebecca’s labour was long, and Rebecca lost consciousness during birth; she didn’t even hear her baby’s cry. The weak, premature baby was too weak to cry.
By the time Rebecca was done giving birth, the slave could not be saved again; she had gone too weak. That was what her mother told her. " The mother and child had died but we have another problem."
Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat scared of what her mother wanted to say. "Don’t tell me my baby died." Her voice choked.
Her mother held her hand and shook her head slowly. "Your baby survived but there is a problem. She has Heliosian magic. It is very powerful. If left she will be killed." Her mother explained.
"What are we going to do?" She believed her mother held a solution. "This will be a secret between us not even Pierre should know. I will seal the baby and she will live the rest of her life as a talentless noble."
Rebecca agreed even if it meant she would be faced with mockery. Even if it meant Abrielle might be ousted by other nobles. She accepted it. As long as she had her baby.
The spell was done and the baby was sealed for good. No one was meant to know, it was her little secret with her mother. When Cedric brought it up during their first visit to the seaside castle, she was shaken.
Rebecca still remembers when she first held the premature Abrielle, it was love at first sight. Not even once did she doubt that the girl who was by her side wasn’t hers. Not even when Abrielle’s hair colour became apparent. It was okay, she was a ginger
When her doubts truly started was Abrielle’s coming of age when she failed the lineage test. Although the possible reason was that Abrielle didn’t possess holy magic, the worst happened the day she saw Callista at Cedric’s place.
A mother knows, she knew but she wanted to live in denial. Callista looked like Pierre’s mother’s face and had his hair and eye colour. In other words, she was a female version of her husband, still she didn’t want to accept it. Abrielle was her life and fate was telling her it was all a lie. She wasn’t going to accept it no matter what.
The way Abrielle’s eyes sparkled when she called her mamma the first time wasn’t fake. It was her daughter.
A lone tear rolled down Rebecca’s eyes falling on the letter she was writing with trembling hands. She wiped off the tears. This wasn’t the time to cry. Call her heartless, call her selfish that she chose water over blood.
This was her last selfish act as a mother. Rebecca folded the letter and handed it to her aide.
"Give this to Abrielle make sure no one sees you as you go to her room." She instructed the aide who bowed and left the room.
At the door, the aide came across Pierre. She avoided his gaze and then fled. Pierre closed the door behind him, and Rebecca’s back was against him.
"You already knew. Didn’t you?" He asked and she smiled.
