The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 412: How it all started
Chapter 412: How it all started
A week had passed since the victory Banquet and the death of Kaiden was announced. The news declaring the first prince who had just returned from war as the one behind Kaiden’s death spread all over Darconia in that week.
Cedric was wanted, the crazy part was that no one really knew what the prince looked like since his face was always covered. The bounty posters were based on his physical description.
The news was taken by many different people. Some believed, some doubted, while others were scared of the implications. One thing is for sure: it was just a battle for the throne.
Succession in Darconia has always been a battle of blood since only the most capable can succeed to the throne.
The soft rushing sound of water from the kettle nozzle rang, "That’s enough." Rebecca instructed the maid who was watering the plant. The maid stopped.
Rebecca was in her private garden she kept herself. Everything growing here was sown by her and Abrielle. Whenever she starts missing Abrielle or is overwhelmed with worry, she comes here to get her soiled with the dirty soil.
Rebecca was squatting down, an apron tied over her dress. Her bare hand was covered with soil as she inspected the roots of her bluebell, which was withering.
Her brows furrowed, "There is nothing wrong with the roots or the soil." She muttered. A sharp sigh left her lips. She has been stressed lately, barely able to sleep.
How could she have a good night’s sleep? When her son-in-law was accused of treason, she had no idea where her daughter was. The news from the capital wasn’t clear.
Rumours are going around that Abrielle disappeared. Where could she possibly be? "I should have said no," Rebecca said. What regret. She should have been firm in rejecting Abrielle when her obsession with Cedric started.
Everything started on a normal afternoon, it was Abrielle’s 10th birthday so she was taking Abrielle and her cousins Sebastian and Adeline to visit the waterfalls near the outskirts of Vesper.
Abrielle was super excited to see the waterfalls she had read about. On the way they were attacked by bandits, the guards tried to fend them off, but the number was too much, as if it were a planned attack.
The children were scared and cried from their hearts. Rebecca was also scared without a doubt. That’s when he showed up, the young prince of 13, he was just returning from his first war. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Cedric always wore a mask as far as Rebecca could remember. She recognised the mask with the Von Drakkar emblem engraved on it. The prince who wears a mask
Cedric helped, he was travelling alone in the forest as he had gotten lost. So it seemed, but Rebecca was certain he was entangled in another failed assassination attempt because he wasn’t with a horse. He claimed his horse died on the way.
Just that boy handled the group of bandits that multiple guards could not handle. Abrielle didn’t see the gore of how Cedric killed them all sparing none. The guards were dumbfounded
Rebecca protected the children from seeing the brutality that a boy the same age as Adeline could commit. After he was done, he wiped his hands and then bent over, asking. "I hope you are fine. I didn’t mean to scare you." He nervously eluded teenage charms.
Maybe that was when she grew soft to the boy who was forced to grow faster than his peers. He was just a child. Abrielle glanced up from her mother’s embrace, her eyes sparkled as she smiled softly at her ’ hero’.
"I am Abrielle. What’s your name?" She asked, taking him unaware. He was stunned for a while but replied with a forced smile. "Cedric." Abrielle wasn’t scared of the blood or mask. She smiled sweetly at him. "We are going to see the waterfalls. It’s my birthday, why don’t you come along?"
She invited him when the others were too scared to look at him. Cedric nervously glanced at Rebecca. Rebecca reluctantly nodded. "I can come along. I am kind of lost."
Cedric joined them to see the waterfalls, and Abrielle forgot about her cousins and focused just on him. Later, the other children warmed up to him, asking him questions. Unlike the excitement they had, his eyes were dead..eyes that have seen death too commonly.
Rebecca laughed remembering the memory, Cedric barely remembers it. To him, the children were just a nuisance he had to keep up with. He had no idea the little girl with ginger hair fell in love that day.
They returned to the estate that night, and Abrielle was excited to show Cedric around the estate the next morning, only for her to wake the next morning and he was gone. The previous night, Cedric explained his situation to the Nightshade couple, and to repay him, they gave him a guide back to the capital.
He left on the ship that very same night. Abrielle cried her eyes out and refused to leave her room for an entire day, mad that she didn’t see him leave. Rebecca thought she was just throwing a tantrum and didn’t think much about it.
The next day she left her room and everything returned to normal. Years passed, and Abrielle had a coming-of-age ball at 15. She has refused to dance with anyone aside from her family, and when asked who she thought of as a potential partner.
Her lips parted, her eyes sparkling as she smiled. "The only one I want to be with is my hero prince Cedric." Pierre almost fainted from shock knowing who Cedric was. His sweet daughter could not be married to that tyrant.
They tried multiple options, including her betrothal to Lucian, which wasn’t public but arranged by the mothers, but Abrielle was adamant. Each time they brought up marriage, she would attempt suicide.
Rebecca, who had been soft enough to give up then, wished she had stood more firmly against it, but she could not. She loved Abrielle too much to convince Pierre to speak to the king.
"She won’t be happy unless she marries him. I can’t bear to watch her try to kill herself anymore." Rebecca broke down and cried in her husband’s arms. When the marriage was official, they told Abrielle and Pierre spoke to Cedric about it.
Cedric only knew Abrielle as the obsessed girl from the rumours. He didn’t remember how he saved them when Rebecca brought it up he evaded the topic
Abrielle was super excited about getting married to Cedric but everything changed the morning of the wedding. Abrielle suddenly didn’t want Cedric again and tried running but it was too late since there was already a royal decree.
"Your grace, there is something I want you to see." A calm voice called Rebecca from her memories. She glanced at the guards, her eyes zeroing in on a pendant he held.
Her heart skipped a beat and she snatched it from the guard. "Where did you get this?" She barked out startling everyone.
"There is a small group at the gate." He blurted, barely finishing his sentence, when Rebecca dashed away. Clutching the pendant as she cried.
She recognised the pendant; it was one Abrielle never parted with. One she stole from Cedric 10 years ago when he saved them.
She got to the gate and immediately recognised Evelyn. "Your grace."
"Where is she?" She demanded, unable to hold the tears. Evelyn glanced at the carriage and Rebecca ran over without a word. She opened the door and her daughter was truly in there. Her sweet ginger baby.
