Chapter 205: No Second Chances 5

Lina stared at him, heart slowly turning to stone. He was really standing there, trying to convince her that staying with another woman for personal gain was something she should be patient about.

As if she was just supposed to wait in the shadows until he was done with Stacey which they both knew that wouldn’t be the case.

"Your family is already wealthy, Christian," she said, her voice low. "You don’t need Stacey’s connections. The only reason you two broke up before was because she wanted a different path. But now that she’s back, you threw everything we had away. Like I was nothing."

Christian’s smile returned, soft and disarming. "I didn’t throw it away, Lina. Look, I promise I’ll sort this out. Just wait for me. You’re the one I want in the end. Okay?"

He said it like it was some kind of favor. Like she was supposed to be grateful he still wanted her after treating her like a secret—like a shadow in his life.

"No," Lina said clearly, lifting her chin. "Let’s just break up, Christian. I’m setting you free. You can do whatever you want."

For a second, silence settled between them like a heavy fog. Christian’s smile faltered. His eyes darkened, his entire expression shifting in a heartbeat.

And then—he snapped.

His face twisted into something she barely recognized. The warmth vanished. His voice turned sharp, laced with something cold and dangerous.

"You’re not going to break up with me, Lina."

Lina shook her head, her stomach tightening with unease. "Of course I can," she said, her voice steady despite the chill running down her spine. "And I will."

His jaw clenched, and he paced, running a hand through his hair. "You don’t understand what you’re saying. We’ve been together for five years. You can’t just throw that away."

"No," she said, her voice rising now, firmer. "You threw it away, Christian. The moment you made me your dirty little secret. The moment you chose your ambition and Stacey over me."

He turned back to her, eyes burning—not with sorrow, but with something else. Possession. Obsession.

"You think this is your decision?" he asked, voice like a blade. "You don’t get to walk away from me, Lina. You don’t just get to leave."

Lina’s breath caught. She had expected him to protest, to beg, maybe even cry. But this—this barely restrained madness? This wasn’t the Christian she remembered.

Something was wrong. Deeply wrong.

He hadn’t been like this before. At least not in her memories. But now . . . she wasn’t sure who stood before her.

Was this his real face? Had she only seen the mask all these years?

Lina steadied herself, refusing to show fear. "You can’t keep me here, Christian. I’m not a thing you own. I’m not your backup plan."

"I loved you," he growled, stepping closer.

"No," she said sharply, eyes hard. "You loved the idea of me. You loved that I waited. That I stayed quiet. That I let you use me. But I’m done being that girl."

His hands curled into fists at his sides. "You’re not thinking clearly."

"Oh, I’m thinking clearer than ever." Her voice was like steel now. "This ends now. You don’t love me—you never did. You just didn’t want to be alone while waiting for her."

Christian stared at her, breathing hard. For a second, she saw it—the madness flickering in his eyes. The obsession. The refusal to let go.

And suddenly, Lina knew.

He wasn’t going to let her go easily.

"I said you’re not leaving me!"

Christian’s voice thundered through the room, deeper and more vicious than she had ever heard it before.

Something unhinged had snapped inside him, and for the first time in their five years together, Lina felt true fear—not confusion, not betrayal, not pain—fear.

She barely had time to register the sound of a chair scraping against the floor before he lunged for the couch. His hand grabbed a pillow—one of the decorative ones she’d once picked out for his apartment when they were still pretending to be a happy couple. He had brought it here in the hospital, hoping it would cheer her up.

He turned to her with eyes that had lost all semblance of rationality.

"Christian—" her voice came out, hoarse and alarmed.

But he didn’t hear her. Or worse, he did—and simply didn’t care.

In one swift, terrifying motion, he pushed her backward onto the bed and pressed the pillow against her face.

Lina’s eyes widened. The shock struck her first—paralyzing her mind before her body could even respond. She hadn’t expected this. Not from him. Not like this.

She tried to fight. Her hands came up instinctively, weakly batting at the pillow, at his arms. But her body betrayed her. She had just come out of surgery—barely stitched together, her limbs still sluggish, her stamina drained.

Her training, her instincts—they all screamed at her to push, to twist, to fight. But nothing responded fast enough. Her strength was gone.

She could barely breathe. The air around her turned muffled. Her legs kicked feebly. Darkness crowded the edges of her vision like smoke curling from the corners of a fire.

This is really happening.

He was really doing this.

Christian—the man who once whispered promises of forever—was now trying to silence her. Permanently.

Is this how it ends? What did I done wrong? Was it because I asked to break up?

No. No—she couldn’t die. Not here. Not yet.

But the pressure was relentless. The air was almost gone. The world was dimming.

And then—

Silence.

She gasped.

But it wasn’t air she felt. It wasn’t lungs expanding. It wasn’t her body waking.

It was—weightlessness. A drifting, as if her soul was being pulled from the roots of her skin. And then—

Light.

Bright, pale light. frёewebηovel.cѳm

A cool breeze brushed her cheek. A familiar scent of fresh mint and something strangely refreshing, cold, and calming hung in the air.

Her eyes fluttered open—and she found herself lying on an unending calm waters under a pastel-colored sky.

A pair of enormous ears flopped into view.

"Oh," a voice said, hesitant. "You’re awake."

The bunny.

I was back in the void.
